We had a prolapsed cord with my son. The nurse couldn’t feel any pulsating, so she thought she was feeling an ear, but as soon as the OB said it was the cord, everyone jumped into emergency mode. It was crazy. And they didn’t take the time to put me into any special position, but the other things you mentioned happened. Also, it was after a spontaneous rupture of membranes for me.

Turned out that she had a two vessel cord that hadn't been detected on my many ultrasounds. Yay! 39 weeks this week and hoping for a VBAC! That umbilical cord jelly saved my twins' lives. As mono mono twins, they had several true knots together, but the cords were so thick they only had one decel during my 6 week inpatient stay! Yayyyyy, jelly!!

I went into labor with my water breaking at 34 weeks and even though he was early they let me do delayed cord clamping , which for me we did around 30 minutes. I was so happy they let me do that even though he was born early. So much of my birth plan got thrown out the window but I still got to do a few things and that was one of them.

Forgot to mention that even though my son was a preemie, and he was exclusively breastfed until he was 11 months old (he refused solid foods that long) his iron stores were still in the normal level at his one year check up. I really thank delayed cord clamping for this. Everyone told me his iron would be low and luckily it wasn’t!

I ended up with a cesarean because my daughter was just utterly tangled in her cord; had it wrapped around her neck and had an arm pinned up by her head so that she couldn't even drop into place for vaginal birth plus the deceleration occurring. Using it like a jump rope would explain things! She was a mover and a shaker in there.

Her kidneys & brain were scanned immediately after her c-section, before she was even brought to me. Everything was fine. She did have high bilirubin for a while after birth. I worried about that but she seems fine. She'll be 12 in a couple weeks!

Yes, we believe so! She is on the small end of normal for her weight and height and she has Inattentive ADHD and takes Concerta for that. She’s a fab kid, almost 11 and we have started puberty. I’m too young for this!!

We almost lost our son to cord around his neck when pushing. He was also 10 pounds and got stuck! However when we were having ultrasounds the tech started laughing and called another tech in he was chewing on his cord! It looked like he was trying to eat it. He would get mad because his pacifier or bottle would pop out of his mout because chewed on them!

oh my goodness I just had a terrible thought about my baby's umbilical stump (I'm due in June) 😅 You said that sometimes the stump falls off and people don't even notice, and I just thought ...OMG what if it falls off and I don't notice, and what if my DOG finds it and EATS IT?!?! 😳Also! aside from that super gross thought, THANK YOU so much for your videos! My baby deceleration during contractions, my OB was in the room because I was starting to push. They doubled up on my epidural because he thought he might end to use the forceps. I pushed her out and the cord was around her neck.

My son never quite lost his umbilical stump... we had to do a few interventions to get it off once he was 6 weeks old and he still has a small (healed over) granuloma/scar 2 years later. The weirdest part for me was not giving him a bath until he was well over a month old!

I've had all kinds of weird placenta/cord stuff happen, between my four live births. My first had an extremely small placenta, likely due to an undiagnosed clotting disorder causing it to form poorly. The cord had a battledore insertion and there was no Wharton's jelly at the attachment point. My midwife said she doesn't normally show people their placenta unless they ask, but she had to show me how precarious it was. She could put her fingers between the vessels, and there was an exposed vessel running all the way across the surface. The cord was thin and short as well. I had a water birth and I could barely keep his face out of the water without tugging on the cord before the placenta was delivered. My baby was only 5 lb 12 oz despite being 38+5 gestation. Second was fine. Third had the cord around his neck twice and also around his arm and his torso. He was all tangled up in there. Youngest had chorioamnionitis, cord vasculitis, everything stained green from meconium, and there was a clot under the placenta. I had an amnioinfusion with the third and fourth. It didn't seem to help either time, but I managed to have a vaginal birth with #3. I had an emergency c-section with #4. Do not recommend.

I had my baby exactly 2 weeks ago today :) she is perfect! When she was born, the cord was wrapped around her neck. The OB went to release the cord and it snapped.... what causes the cord to snap? I'm just glad it happened after she was far enough out to clamp and both of us are okay.

Sometimes cord snap if they are being pulled on or if there is strain in a weakened spot. I’ve seen them snap when a mom pulled her baby up too fast and the cord was short. I’m glad everything was ok!!

I’ve actually talked about this in my few pregnancy updates I’ve done. It’s totally normal to feel scared and anxious by another pregnancy after a loss. At least, that’s how I felt. Especially in the beginning.

I gave birth on feb 18th. Our daughter had the cord wrapped twice around her neck. She was en caul (waters never broke so the amniotic sack was fully intact) they wanted to break it to make it easier to push her out but I said no. Thank God I refused. My birth was completely natural even after four nights of prodromal labor and 4 hours of pushing.

Great video! I’ve always wondered about my first pregnancy. We decided to donate cord blood to a blood bank. They told me it was some of the most cord blood they’d ever collected. Does that mean they didn’t delay the cord clamping? I really should have asked more questions, but I assumed they would delay the clamping because that is the practice of the hospital. Overall, baby was/is healthy and we were actually able to help another child in need, but I always questioned it.

I did, but I cut that part out, rats! You can delay cord clamping for 30-60 seconds if banking cord blood, but be sure to double check in your specific cord blood banking kit instructions.

Do you have a preference of Cord ring vs clamp? I've been researching it and the ring seem so much better. Also, the iron in breast milk - if it's naturally not in there then why do most formulas have it in there? Hello ive been suffering from prodromal labor for over a week now. I feel bad going to labor and delivery twice now with no dilation. i cant tell because the contractions are painful and consistent. my twins have dropped. Any advice on inducing active labor or signs to look for dilation?

I told my doctor I wanted to do delayed cord clamping and she said that if the baby isn`t preterm it`s pointless at best and a big risk for jaundice at worst :/ what should I do? So good news: More than 90 percent of the time, placenta previa diagnosed in the second trimester corrects itself by term. That’s because as the uterus grows, the placenta grows up with it too. Your doctor will give you more specifics on your case and severity and continue to monitor. Placenta previa that does not resolve will need to be delivered via cesarean birth, due to the dilation of the cervix interrupting blood flow and causing bleeding.

When I talked to my OB about delayed cord clamping, she said they do it for 30 seconds for all births. I told her I’d like it done longer until the cord stops pulsating and she “informed” me that it stops pulsating after 30 seconds. Quick question about delayed cord clamping, both my boys had jaundice and were in NICU for treatment. I did some reading on delayed cord clamping and one con was that it increases chance of jaundice because of the extra red blood cells. I understand that not doing it wouldn’t prevent my baby from having jaundice but I sort of don’t want to do anything that would make it worse. What’s your advice on this? 😊

I’d chat with you doctor about the risk factors you and you baby’s have for jaundice. Has the jaundice been related to a blood type incompatibility or premature birth. The research is mixed on delayed cord clamping causing jaundice and since jaundice is treatable and monitored DCC is still recommended!

Nope! Like a loose tooth, it’ll just fall off by itself if left alone. If you pulled it out prematurely that might be painful and cause more bleeding

Based on what I’ve read, it might not be encouraged due to the risk of blood from twin B going to twin A before twin B is delivered since they share a placenta. I’d double check with you OB and see what they think!

My sons cord came almost came out before my baby. So i had to have an emergency c section so he wouldnt suffocate.

@@Nurse_zabe thats what i said. He was breech and was very high up in my pelvis. So when 2 drops og water broke i har to lay down and call an ambulance. Was at the hospital 1 hour after my water broke (40 ish minutes drive) they Said it har to be a c section coz if i pushed he would suffocate. Water broke at 8 pm. My son was born at 11.06 pm. I never har any contractions. Hes now a happy healthy 1.5 year old. If the nurses and doctors didnt react as fast as they did he wouldnt be alive. I am forever greatful
