Can you do a video about giving birth with an existing prolapse? I have a cystocele and mild rectocele after the birth of my 2nd. My dr isn't too concerned about it while I'm in labor, but I'm a little scared about it and making it much worse as I'm pregnant with my next baby currently. I know every person is different and some don't get worse while some do. But nobody ever talks about prolapse.. I have found how common it is, but I'd like more info from a labor nurse's point of view as well 😁 thank you!

I just had my 4th baby a little girl. My older 3 are boys. First son was vaginal with episiotomy. Second son was emergency csection. Third son was vbac with tearing on the inside of my labia and sideways on my labia. This little girl 2nd vbac no tearing. When they told me that after she came out i told her she was my favorite. Lol this has so far been the best recovery yet!

I was scared of tearing as well, but honestly, it's not too bad! I had some discomfort while peeing (it stings a bit) for about 2 weeks, but that's about it! And I delivered a 4.5kg baby! :)

I've experienced both. My first, I had an episiotomy 14 stitches. He was early and only 6 pounds but..because I'm apparently not normal and needed it or tear badly. My younger one, was full term and 6.13, they tried massage, I tore and it took longer to heal with more pain because they didn't listen to my history. As long as they take your personal body reactions to this subject, don't worry about it too much. You'll be great!

Honestly I was more miserable with my tearing than I was during labor. One way to get bad tearing is to push really hard, which I hadn't wanted to do, I wanted to listen to my body, but my water had been broken for 3 days and my temperature started rising (which may or may not have indicated infection, thankfully it did not), so I just wanted to baby OUT. I felt like I was ripping apart for the first 2 days whenever I tried to move. I insisted that the Dr check me and make sure the stitches weren't tearing out even tho they thought I was crazy (the Dr was nice about it but the nurses were so mean). Then I could barely walk for 4 days. They wouldn't tell me how much I tore or how many stitches I got. It was the resident who did the stitching, which I also regret. Next time I'll going to be more of an advocate for myself!

You are giving me information I’m not asking for, which is super helpful when you are completely new to the entire childbirth experience. Thank you so much! It’s been a really hard pregnancy. I tore with my daughter. Padsicles were amazing. Witch hazel with aloe on a pad stuck in the freezer. My pp nurse was amazing with teaching me how to do the tucks pads and ice packs. The hospital I was in also let’s you hold your baby doing skin to skin the entire time you’re being stitched as well (as long as everything is ok with baby). It was pretty helpful to have her as a distraction too so I wasn’t focused on them stitching me

I was terrified of tearing at my first pregnancy. This word is so brutal and graphic. Turns out I did. It was more of a relief than pain! I did tear a little on my 2nd and didnt with my 3rd. Of course its better not to tear, but it really is not as terrible as it sounds. Now im days away of giving birth to twins, and its the last thing on my mind!
@Nurse_zabe
@Nurse_zabe 4 жыл бұрын
I agree, without an epidural you don't even really feel the tearing. And perhaps using the word laceration is less brutal and graphic, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew what I was talking about. So many words in labor are negative (failure to, incompetent cervix, false labor), it's important that we are mindful of our speech, for sure. Good luck with your twins!! 💗

Don't stress too much about it, really! After delivering a 4.5kg baby I suffered from some discomfort, I wouldn't even call it 'pain'! My biggest problem was actually doing number 2 ;) I was so scared of breaking the stitches (which, I know, is impossible! :)) that I blocked myself for a week, and seriously - that was much more uncomfortable than the tearing!:) Oh, and even after delivering such a big baby and not having done any exercises to help me with the process, I ended up with only level 2 tearing, so the pretty standard one. Good luck!

I wish I’d seen this before I had my baby in Jan. I knew I’d torn bc they had to stitch me up but no one actually told me what degree of tear I had or where it was (and I was too scared to look until later). I ended up reading the note about my birth when a nurse popped out of my room and left herself logged into the computer (I’m a nurse too, and I know I shouldn’t have done that but 🤷🏼‍♀️🙈) and THATS how I learned I had a 2nd degree tear. I also feel like I also got no education about how to care for my tear when I went home :( maybe because I’m a nurse and they assumed I knew? Thank you for making this video because now I’ll feel much more prepared next time I give birth and hopefully the first few days won’t be as uncomfortable 🤞🏻

Same, honestly. But i knew I tore kinda bad since they had to stick me up. Found out it was a fourth degree tear. I'm assuming they didn't say anything to me about mine (like how bad it was) because it wasn't vertical (into anus or urethra) luckily! But, yeah, they didn't tell me anything on how to take care of it or what to look for or whatever.

How frustrating that you didn’t receive enough education. Hopefully your next delivery will go more smoothly. I think sometimes it’s hard taking care of another medical provider. I’ve personally taken care of two of our pediatricians in labor and postpartum. I just try and pretend like they don’t know anything to make it easier on myself. That way they might get some info twice, but we won’t miss anything!

I begged my doctor with my first to not do an episiotomy unless medically necessary. He did it anyways. My daughters HR was fine. I feel I could have pushed her out with natural tearing but he was in a rush and cut me twice as I was yelling no. I was pissed. Recovery was absolutely brutal. So much pain and now I still get pain on the scar during intercourse. I'm 35 weeks now with a different doctor and she only performs episiotomies if absolutely needed. I feel so much safer with my doctor now. I'm actually planning to birth this time without an epidural and allowing my body to do all the work. Having a compassionate doctor who cares about your wishes, unless an emergency happens, is so important.

i heard that epidurals has a correlation with tearing in women. wherever i read it from, it said that because the women can't feel anything while they're pushing and end up pushing too hard and so the baby comes out too fast without the vaginal skin stretching around the head quickly enough and so tearing occurs.

This video has just taught me so much! When I was in the Delivery room they had me positioned under a very reflective light so I literally witnessed everything. My epidural didn’t quite take and so I felt the ring of fire but I also didn’t quite know as much about labor and child birth as I do now through research with upcoming baby #2. when my dr came after they gave me something to progress my labor along as I had been in labor for just over 24 hours, they literally told me they have a scheduled c-section in 30 minutes so either start pushing or wait. So I figured well let’s do this. Well my dr gave me an episiotomy and I had absolutely no idea that it was something I should’ve been consulted about prior to it being done. Baby was delivered within 10 minutes. I felt so stressed and rushed and after seeing this I can’t believe how unnecessary a lot of it was. My recovery from the episiotomy was roughly 1 and a half months and it was absolutely excruciating and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Recently gave birth to twin boys in January 2020 and suffered a 2nd degree tear. The first week or two is the most painful. I took a stool softener everyday to help ease the pain when I had to go and still felt some discomfort down there. Sitz baths every night (soaked for a minimum of 20 minutes), spraying the area with water and witch hazel every time I used the bathroom, and using cooling pads with aloe Vera multiple times a day really helped speed up my recovery. I was fully recovered within about 8-9 weeks.

After all the research I've done, my heart has been telling me that it's unethical and unnecessary, even though I've still been kinda torn on what I should do for other reasons. It’s particularly so valuable during this time where we can’t go to in person prenatal classes or access a lot of pregnancy related resources - including seeing a pelvic floor specialist. Something I wanted to do due to a pelvic floor condition I have. Even my prenatal appointments have been cut down to once a month when its usually once every 2 weeks during the third trimester. I was so worried about vaginal birth and was almost leaning towards an elected c section. Your videos have been reassuring. I have some confidence going into labour in July. Thanks for this video!!! It’s so affirming to hear a professional talk about severe tearing and how it’s not the norm and requires more healing. I really feel like women just blow past this part of recovery and don’t talk about it. I was induced at 41 weeks in November and ended up with a 3rd degree tear. The whole experience was traumatizing (for many more reasons that’s just the tearing) and I am now going to look for a good PT. My whole pelvic area still feels so vulnerable and unstable. I would really appreciate a video about hemorrhoids too! Those are still a thing for me too 🥴 Couples questions - Do you see more severe tearing with women who are induced? How likely is it that I will have a severe tear with another baby?

Oh my! I wish I had seen your videos before my first, or at least before my second. Now I'm about to have my third and there's so much you're telling me that I had to either learn on my own or didn't even know yet. Thank you! I had an episiotomy with my first after pushing for almost 2 hours. The doctor never said anything about it being necessary for baby's safety, just that it was the only thing keeping her from getting out and if she did an episiotomy she'd be out with just one push, so I agreed to it. I tried to ask questions about what kind of tear or how many stitches, out of curiosity, but my doctor was vague and didn't answer me. With my second, I only pushed a handful of times and she came out really fast. I had a tear that I think was bad, but I was never told what kind of tear it was. My recovery was harder and I had a lot of pain from the stitches. Now I'm planning on my first unmedicated birth, so I'm wondering about tearing and stitches without an epidural. It's good to know I can stop them and tell them to give me more pain meds if it's too painful. Thank you!

I had two 3rd (almost 4th) degree tears and a ton of interior tears. Ended up with 6 suture packets, estimated 100 stitches. Honestly, labor was more painful than recovery. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds.

Have you ever heard of the husband stitch? Been reading up on it and it’s scary. I’m trying for a baby right now and so shocked by this kind of stitch x
