Tim always wanted to know. He was a seeker, and a questioner.
As a child he was one of those annoying kids who always asked "why?"
He grew up in a small village in The Fens in Cambridgeshire where he still lives today.
Loving sport he became a PE teacher, but secretly always wanted to dance.
One day whilst leading a group of students on a hike in Derbyshire he was walking up a rocky wooded hill.
He stopped. Time stopped. Afterwards he described it as,
"I knew the rocks and trees and they knew me.
I was the rocks and trees and they were me."
That's not really how it was, but that seemed like the only way he could make sense of it.
After that 'revelation', things were never the same. His seeking was now focussed on finding an answer to what had seemed to have been revealed.
He found the message of non-duality, and was bitten. There was immediate and undeniable resonance. There was absolutely no doubting that this was it! There followed many, exciting, frustrating and painful years of being a non-duality addict. He bought every book that even vaguely resonated, watched endless KZbin, promiscuously flitting from one speaker to another looking for the secret nugget that would lead to liberation. He learnt a lot. He understood a lot. It became obvious that all his knowledge and understanding were worthless, and he fell into despair.
The despair lasted, until it stopped. In its place was emptiness, peace, silence, and love, but mostly emptiness.
Of course, none of that happened.

my son when little always sed " YOU want ... (so and such)" /" you did it" talking about himself, always called himself "you" instead of i. Was always in 3rd person... after all we were " thing- ing" him i spose, making him into the "other". I know other kids who do this. I wondered if he was reflecting us calling him "you" as in, he was still unaware of an "i" personal to him. And then he started using his name, but still in 3rd person. I loved this insight, and listening here. I recognised that thing with trees and objects being infused, being "me" as well.

I had the same experience when I was about 10. I wrote about it: One day when I was about ten my grandparents came for a visit. It was a warm, sunny day. We had eaten lunch, and the adults were in the kitchen at the table talking. I went outside to play. I was in the yard between the dogwood tree at the edge of the driveway and the garage. I looked up at the dogwood tree and the tree’s presence overwhelmed me. I felt as if I could speak to it and it would understand me. I knew the tree, and it knew me. I stopped and scanned the yard and the sky. Everything was alive and completely self-aware. The clarity was astounding, mesmerizing. I was immersed in my surroundings, part of them. The colors were so completely vivid, deep, almost translucent; to the point a Technicolor film would appear dull in comparison. I sat down and examined the grass, the flowers. I could hardly believe the change. I ran back into the kitchen and pleaded with the adults. “Please come outside and see this! The world has changed! It’s different! You have to see this!” Oddly, none of them were interested, and so they continued with their conversations. I went back outside, but the world had changed back. I sat in the grass for some time, trying to see the world as I had just seen it moments ago, but it was to no avail. I could not bring it back. Things were back to “normal”. I was upset and disappointed, but happy at the same time. I had been gifted an insight. I knew the world most people see is an illusion, a poor, degraded copy of what actually is. This verified for me what I knew intuitively, that the world we “see” is what we are tuned to see. Even in my child’s mind, this was enough verification for me that I existed independently of the reality, and could view other realities by shifting my attention.

After some thought, I considered that in my experiences with non-duality I still maintained some semblance of identity. It seems to me your concern and hesitancy is from a potential loss of personal identity. Identity might be a poor word, perhaps better considered an awareness, separate in one aspect, but not really separate at all. Each point of awareness is aware of itself, and the awareness is capable of being shared. The tree is aware of itself as a tree. The leaf is aware of itself as a leaf. So on and so forth. You have a foot in both worlds, which is a good thing.

It seems you are clinging to this construction. You speak of your hopes and dreams. There is nothing wrong with making the most of your endeavors, but there is nothing that goes with you when you leave here but your experiences and your relationships. Am I misunderstanding you?
