Kobe's first all-star appearance should be on the list too. 100% fan vote got him in, averaging 15/3/2 while being a bench player. In fact, only started 2 games that entire season, one of which was the all-star game.

@@grayhoops Before making any videos, was Kobe averaging 15/3/2 at the time he was selected as an All Star? What was the league average in Pace that year? I actually had mike Conley instead of goran dragic, had 2 whole pages of notes written, but going back and looking at his advanced stats he was leading the league at the time in WS and +\- while being better than donovan mitchell on the first seed. Iguodala had some good seasons, but he NEVER should have been an All-Star. Even in his best season, there were too many east frontcourt players alone that deserved a reserve spot over him, including Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, and Richard Jefferson.
@dblanch99

I honestly think Iguodala was deserving of that season. The 76ers had a strong start to the season that year and though his numbers weren’t eye popping, he was still their best player and we know how much team success factors into all star selections. a good number of all stars left off and then granted all stardom at a later time as a make up call in the NBA. I think of all stars in the NBA coming in a number of categories. Superstars who usually occupy the starting positions. Your Jordans, Bird, LeBron, Curry, Giannis, Shaq. Perennial all stars who may not start but their all-stardom is undeniable and they make the all star team year in and year out. Career year all star, an all star player who is having a breakout year and becomes and all star. The Legacy player in their final year send off player. Dirk, Dwyane Wade, Michael Jordan, Kareem and Magic Johnson in a way are all examples of these. Career achievement award/makeup call all star.....an all star who is awarded all stardom closer to the twilight of his career as an acknowledgment of his achievements.....Mike Connely, I kinda put Horace Grant in this category for his lone all star year though that may be considered a career year, Antonio Davis, Otis Thrope all come to mind. The we need to have a center because them's was the rules back then and we need to have enough back up centers in the all star game. Kevin Duckworth kinda comes to mind as well as I guess James Donaldson. The ballot stuffer players who receive a huge amount of votes from one fan base to get them in as a starter.......many times this player is put in undeservedly as a starter but could make the case as a reserve....other times that player should not have even been an all star. China's Yao MIng often deserved to be an all star but probably not a starter....seriously why is Yao starting over Shaq if not for the voting of Mainland China? AC Green of the Lakers....I love him for his Christian values but I don't think he was deserving that year. Andrew Wiggens recently is another example. Until the day I die I will say BJ Armstrong should NEVER have been an all star. The all star who use to be an all star but is now just being voted in based on reputation......Allen Iverson, Tracy Mcgrady, Shaq tail end of his career, LeBron has also debatably become one of these the last few years.....he at the very least should not be a starter based on talent or merit. The breakout all star.....Jalen Brunson should have been this this year (did he actually make it as a reserve), James Harden when he made it for Houston. A breakout year all star can often become a perennial all star if the breakout year becomes a true beginning/breakout year. The rookie all star.......these are rare and the one's who've made it their rookie year are truly some of the greatest players I can remember. Shaq, Bird, Jordan, Duncan all took the NBA by storm their rookie year. Mutumbo was a rookie all star and even though he didn't win ROY I think he was deserving that year even as a rookie because of his great defense and his scoring wasn't too bad either. I also think LeBron is one of the biggest snubs in history his rookie year. I think Antonio Davis or someone like that made the all star team that year. LeBron was THE reason why ratings in the NBA were skyrocketing that year....LeBron also had eye popping numbers too with averages of over 20-5-5.....which I why I think Banchero should be an all star this year. Seriously people wanted to see LeBron and you have freaking Antonio Davis on the team. I was a little surprised LeBron didn't get quite enough votes his rookie year to make the team too. The the team is the best team in the conference or 2nd best team in the conference but only has one true all star so we have to put another player on his team to make up for that and over compensate for it all star. Mo WIlliams on Cleveland for LeBron and Jameer Nelson for Orlando with Dwight are perfect examples. I call these coat tail all stars. Then there's the let's put three or four all stars from last years NBA Champions or the team with the best record. You get some very good role players/borderline stars usually this way. See the Atlanta example where Jeff Teague comes into play.. Sometimes the three or four players are legit though. Rondo was legit to the Celtics ad their big 3. The 76ers four all stars in 83 were all legit. The final category I can think of are the headscratcher all stars. Jamal Magloire, Dale Davis come to mind as well as James Donaldson.

@@grayhoops 😂😂😂 I agree neither belonged on the all star but Teague was a much more important player that season Korver was hitting open 3’s🧐

Nah he deserved it most of the time, as defense is half the game and his playmaking was elite while generally being on the best team in the league

Bro if there's somebody who shouldve not been an all star in 2015 it was korver not Teague
@grayhoops
@grayhoops Жыл бұрын
Nope. Korver was having the best shooting season of all time at the time of the game. 50/50/90 (73%) TS His on off for the hawks that year was a monster +14 on the court, and he was being schemed defensively harder than curry this year. The East as a whole was weak this year, and I’m not mad at teagues pick, but overall Teague is one of the worst all stars in leauge history IMO

do tou remember how good that miami team after the new year?
@grayhoops
@grayhoops Жыл бұрын
They went 10-5 in January 3-7 in febaury and 9-7 in March. Finished as the 6th seed. I’m taking 16-8-8 with elite defense on a better team. Not to take away from goran, but 2018 just wasn’t his year to be an all star IMO

Absolutely an all time legend. And he definitely deserved to play in the all star game. I just wish that they had added the legend spot this season instead, since his stats just weren’t up to par with Lillards. They shoulda both made it but I’m not mad over it. Mamba was an all timer
