Im finally writing it all in probably two docs. Naming can be difficult, ideally you want something no one else has. That way you always show at the top of the searches for it. You might have to make a nonsense word. For example one of my species is Bubble Cugs. Cug because they're cow slugs, bubble because it's one of the major themes. Either of those alone might be taken but together they're not.

I’m currently working on a BUNCH of species for a world building project, and the main and most developed species is my favorite, even though they have *ZERO* and I mean *ZERO* natural variation in color or shape, but they are intelligent humanoids, which means there are almost no limits on what accessories, clothes, or other unnatural modification they can have, which means even though they don’t vary in natural appearance, in modern times they can be as diverse in appearance as humans can be. Edit: there is ONE thing that allows some good variability: they have wings, and those wings are not like any found in the natural world. They are large, and they are thin and papery, yet they are still strong and flexible. They have no skin, bones, or even blood supply, and very few nerves so their wings feel very little pain, which means they can have piercings to attach jewelry to, and the wings can also be carved into to create patterns, possibly even have colored plastics attached to the holes to create a sun catcher effect.

These are some really great tips for making something marketable and appealing! I'd love to add that not every original species needs to be a community based one, that there is a big difference between what I'd consider a "headworld" species and a furry fandom "open/closed" species. The two can easily overlap, such as with vernids, but also not every species needs to be brandable. I say this reading the comments and seeing people talk about accidentally creating species, and as someone who has created my own species since I was young because I love biology, the vast majority I'd never try to brand and wouldn't have enough variety to make different individual designs. But hey even then something you don't expect others to like ends up sticking, ya never know!

I'm brainstorming a species as I watch this! They're currently called Space Cats, and although the feline appearance, actually originated from their own planet from canon slime creatures! They have no mouth and instead absorb special moonlight from the moon that orbits their planet. They range in personality from calm, likeable felines to absolute gremlins! I have a species of my own that I created when just doodling and I have poured tons of lore and ideas into them, from the continent they live on having a war with the united kingdom (long story) to something as subtle as gender differences. I saw this vid as I was sketching a character of this species and I have my own server for them and I'm trying to grow a community (if you want the link I can put it in the replies) (also the server is for my 4 different species, all pretty simple, but still, the original one is the "main focus" of the server.) + don't just make a mismash of traits, group similar traits with variants, organize the species, and provide rhyme and reason to them, if theirs a subspecies that limited or off limits, explain why! Is it like leaders of the group only? Mutants with mutations sure make the creature look cool and edgy but also endanger it's own well being, etc! + Consider gender and disabilities, so many fcmg open and closed species make unnecessary strange and isolating rules against have Queer and disabled characters, either outright outlawing them or limiting them HEAVILY which is gross and homophobic, as well as generally just ablest. It's caused drama time and time again, just budundundj. Also if your character species is agender sexless, actually freaking commit to it instead of unessarily adding boobies.

I’m making a better fruit based species than the citras to! They are called furleaves and have leaves instead of tails and one or two on top of their heads. I don’t want to get into lore right now, but I am very proud as they are my first original species! (:
