Quick note about saturation & compression in case anyone was wondering why I didn’t add any to the two track beat in this video. I usually save both during the mastering process after the vocals are mixed in. I don’t want to run the beat through distortion twice, so I save it for the master channel. I use a bus compressor for the mix as a whole - so same thing - I don’t see the need to run the beat through two different compressors, especially since I would set both compressors to similar settings (slow attack, medium release, 2:1 ratio, around 2dB of gain reduction.) If you want to go more in depth about either subject, here are some videos we made on each subject: Saturation on the master channel - kzbin.info/www/bejne/moCXoKeMi5ijY7s Bus compression - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYncmqmdi8Soj68

@realisticproductionsLLC3 жыл бұрын
@@pandeni4512 you’re welcome. MP3’s aren’t ideal & are lower quality, you’d still want the end result to be creating balance, removing resonance, & creating room for the vocals. I can do a video on that sometime. Thanks for the recommendation.

i'm a fairly "new" subscriber, but i have this thing in my head whenever i hear a "pro song" and compare it with one of my owns, in volume it's fairly "even", thickness same but when i hear the "pro song" i can notice it's way more "clean" yet loud and the voice it's like so clean yet so present, i think i'm missing something in my master, it's so frustrating... anyways, i had to say it to someone, thanks for making this videos it really helps a lot, and if you read this, thanks for your time :D !

DUDE your comment is the exact same thing I’m going through like verbatim ❗️ Dr Dre 2001 album listen to that on good headphones and the vocal is in some magical dope space and I don’t know HOW it gets there LOL! I think I’m getting closer to understanding . The Mid Side thing is important and Sidechaining 🤔 I’m trying to CARVE out that space for that vocal. Is that what you feel like?
@realisticproductionsLLC4 жыл бұрын
There's a lot to unpack in this question & there are mostly likely several things that need to take place to get it there. I won't be able to list every possible solution in a single comment reply, but a lot of pro vocals are boosting the mid-range more than you may think & not boosting the high end as much as we may think they are. They're also turning the volume of the vocal down as they're boosting frequencies. That brings the overall volume down, while letting the dominant frequencies cut through & have their own space in the mix. You'll also have to balance the levels & panning within your whole mix to make sure that they sound wide & full. The better balance you create & the more you eliminate clashing frequencies, the more likely you'll be able to push the volume on the final master. The low end is the big thing that eats up a lot of headroom, so you'll want to make sure that area is well balanced. Low end can be the main thing that causes clashing too. We have a video on getting your bass to cut through without eating up your headroom (kzbin.info/www/bejne/aafIpXiLgsapf9U) Using reference tracks in your mix can help a ton. Have you had a chance to watch our video on "How To Analyze Your Mix Better" I go over a lot of things you should listen for. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKuQeHiqbtpniJY

Will you mix my vocal on mastered beat I will send you flstudio file
@realisticproductionsLLC3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can do that. I have all the different packages on my website. It sounds like the beat isn't tracked out, so the "Basic Mixing" package would be the one to go with. I use Pro Tools to mix the songs, so a bounce of the files would be the best way to go. www.realisticproductions.net/services.html

Like some of your tips, but bro do you usually mix with beats?
@realisticproductionsLLC3 жыл бұрын
Never; I mix with studio monitors. I'm wearing headphones in these videos because I'm also recording my vocals simultaneously while playing the music inside the session. It's pretty rudimentary knowledge to know that when recording vocals while music is playing, you will need to wear headphones so the monitors don't bleed into the microphone & cause feedback, phase cancellation, & unwanted noise.

I Hate Living in Apartments it’s a synth based instrument. They usually sound lush & spacious. A lot of times they play the chord progression.

Question in the video @ 12:42 when you have the Eq for the vocals and the beat . When you did the cutting comparing to the beat eq THAT Eq was on an actual vocal audio track and was it kept on the audio track ? And the mb was it kept on the beat track once you cut all the feq ???

Can someone please clarify this for me. So if I get a 2 track beat that is too loud, on Logic Pro can I select the beat then head to the Region section and turn down the beat with the gain there rather than using the fader
@realisticproductionsLLC3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you would want to turn down the gain the clip rather than the fader. The fader is post inserts (like EQ, compressors, etc) so you want that headroom going into the plugins or hardware rather than afterwards.

@@realisticproductionsLLC Thank you for clarifying this for me on logic, just wasn’t sure if that was the same as using a limiter. Appreciate it
