One of the best studies an instructor ever had me do was a white on white still life, as he liked to say “white, is never just white”. The same thing applies to skin tones, there are always other colors that make up the different values in skin. Your paintings are beautiful, I’m so glad I stumbled upon your channel!

Lioba, I absolutely love your watercolor techniques , I have just started using them BECAUSE I liked what you paint so much. I very much wish I could afford watching the full videos so I can improve what I paint but the situation is so that I do not have that possibility now. However, thank you very much for being on KZbin and sharing your vision here, it inspires me so much to want to improve!

Oh my god!!! That's stunningly gorgeous! I don't typically use watercolors or paint traditionally, so I didn't really listen to your tips. But even if I did paint traditionally, I don't think I'd be able to focus on what you're saying, because that painting is so beautiful! I'm poor, so... I can't afford many art supplies. So what I do is sketch traditionally, take a picture on my phone, turn the saturation down all the way and turn up the contrast, blend/add in darks and lights (or sometimes I just leave it and keep the sketchy look), and then I color over it in a separate layer all in a little drawing app I have. My profile pic is one of the pieces I've done. I can't wait to see what you post next. Your paintings inspire me a lot. ❤

How Lovely is Thy Rose Hi! I would suggest u get either the Van Gogh 10 tube set or shinhan 30 set watercolor if u wanna get started.

How Lovely is Thy Rose Wow! It's quite amazing what you could achieve with a phone drawing app! But don't get discouraged from trying watercolour, it is such a great medium :) I'd also strongly suggest getting a set of vanGogh watercolours, they are probably the best cheap student colours I've tried. I once got a set of 24 half pans for 20€ :) When it comes to paper, cheap alternatives are a bit more complicated to find if you don't want to work on copy paper. For that I'd recommend getting a sketchbook with thicker paper (170gsm or more should be fine for the beginning+easy and cheap to get) instead of paper blocks, since they can get ridiculously expensive. You don't have to spend huge amounts of money. I hope this helps you :)

I feel you right in the "I''m poor" part. hahaha Still, there's cheap traditional material also...
@seraby7151

You dont need to buy the expensive stuff. She uses expensive stuff because it's for gallery work. Watercolor and color pencils are the cheapest medium. You just need a cheapest watercolor paper you can find(it has to be called watercolor paper, regular thick paper will not do), synthetic brushes, student grade watercolors(12 colors will do) and some kids grade color pencils, micron pens and you're good to go. Then slowly upgrade when you become better at it.

Hi! I love the painting, it inspired me a lot, so thank you for that! :) I just noticed you said that white gouache is not opaque, which is not necessarily correct/ might be interpreted wrong. There are actually two kinds of white gouache. One of those is opaque (Titanweiß/ Deckweiß) and the other one isn't (Chinesisches/Zinkweiß) and is supposed to be a better colour for mixing... I just realized this recently as well, hope it helps you :)

Super helpful video!! I am so excited to try the tip for painting clothing!! Also, about tracing, I agree that people should learn how to draw without tracing. But for me tracing has helped me learn the proportions, it forces me to see where things are. Sometimes for practice I will trace something to see where things are, and then draw it. But proportions is what I have trouble with XD. Although, I never want to be dependent on tracing, it just really helps me.

Thank you so much for sharing these tips! You have asked before for pronunciation help, so I thought I would mention that the word "gauge" is one of the words that don't follow the normal pronunciation rules in English - it sounds more like "gay-ge" than "gaw-ge", even though 'au' would normally be like 'aw' for other words. It's a strange one!

Very interesting! I am wondering if any of the color pencil solvents used for blending purposes, like alcohol and or paraffin oil, can be used after the pencils have been drawn on top of the water color (mixed media) how would the water color react when trying to manipulate color pencils on top?! o.0.. And or how would watercolor glazing work, after much color pencil is added?!..

Your work is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your talent and tips with us! I do have a question... You mentioned that you varnish your watercolor paintings which provides a barrier for glitter since the glue reactivates the watercolor. How does the varnish not reactivate the watercolor and turn the whole piece into a muddy mess? 💖 Andi
