Best production tutorial I’ve watched - straight to the point, nice visuals, clear explanations!

Ok, this must be the best content on transient treatment for punchiness I came across

Never knew you could be so focused and serious, Jake. But excellent as always. Thanks!

Pop out of the speakers effect was incredible I noticed now that am watching your video second time, I came back to the like, and see the plugins you featured, but didn't say their names.

Great video. But PLEASE make the U.I. of the example plug-ins large enough to read the labels on pots/controls. Those are often far more important for context than the large writing you post beneath the tiny U.I.

The numbers aren't important, as they're going to be different in your mixes, even if you're mixing the same instrument. A slow kick that benefits from a 32ms attack time won't do any favors to another kick that may *sound nearly as slow, but is actually needing an attack of, say 18ms, to really catch the transient. The same goes for any instrument. A release setting on a compressor at 60/120/240ms could be seen as a "standard" (least, I see that timing often,) but it's gonna make your track sound like ass if the milliseconds don't match a proper ratio of the bpm of your track. I could continue, but I think you get the idea.

@@lucasturney4269 I hear you about the "Numbers". But that's not what i'm talking about. I'm talking about the "Labels" on the pots. We see him turning things... but the interface is way to tiny to know if he's turning "Attack", "Release", etc., etc. And those are key pieces of contextual information, as they tell us what hey is doing... in conjunction with his spoken word. If we can't discern what is happening with the graphics on screen because they are too small, blurred (or for some other reason indecipherable), then they truly make no functional sense, other than to have a graphic on screen for aesthetics. Know what I mean?

@@sekritskworl-sekrit_studios - Okay, I got you. I misunderstood, but in fairness I don't see where that's any issue in that regard. I can even see the small-ass labels on the Slate plugins near the beginning of the video, and I think those are the smallest labels that need to be seen. As for blurry video, I've noticed that in the last few weeks, despite having my YT settings being at 720p default, it automatically plays videos at 480p or 360p, despite saying in the gear icon that it's in 720p. A quick click on the 720p reloads it correctly, but maybe that's the issue? I could see how watching production videos in a wicked low resolution or on a phone might lend to some frustration.

@@lucasturney4269 Well, I believe that it's a matter of "Context". If this were an "audio" presentation, then there is no need to dial in visual presentation. However, with video... (Especially in a tutorial) every single shared element needs to be accounted for, to leverage the most concise learning experience for the viewer as possible. Otherwise it risks distracting from the lesson in aide of material which actually detracts from the lesson. That is merely risks of using this format, and should be reflected upon by any who would dare deem themselves an earnest "instructor". :-)

But, doesn't adding more transient information remove headroom? When I master a track, it goes through a clipper and limiter to get the volume up to release standard.

Mixing is about feeeel not technicalities 👍
@lorez6063 Жыл бұрын
Yes technically correct, but the transients might push the rest of the ""stuff" out of the way so that the transients are perceived to hit harder.
@MOSMASTERING Жыл бұрын
@@victornico Depends on genre. If I want an EDM track, balls to the wall LOUD. I can't be having transients eating headroom. And you don't get "feel" without knowing the technical stuff.

Thats why you level match after you enhanced the transients

If you want punchy mixes slap waves L2 limiter « aka transient killer » on each track trust you gonna be surprise by thé result 😂

Following all the tips in this video will not help you get your songs accepted. This is creative procrastination. I have never once received a note from a client saying, "Great song! Perfect for what I need. But those transients need work, so I"m going to pass.".
@23rdJar Жыл бұрын
Clients don't typically understand what transients even are, so i highly doubt you're gonna get a note like that. I think it depends on the genre and the taste of the client. If the client wants the drums to knock harder, u gotta know how to do that. Sure, there are more important things in the production but that doesn't mean this is futile

Do you want to improve or not? You can stay the same if you want but others will do better mixes and push their envelope.
