I love your tips. My husband and I were lucky enough to be able to purchase a 600 square foot home in the 80's. We were newlyweds and scraped together a deposit. Everyone thought we were crazy. It has no basement, no garage and a small attic space. We loved it's cozy feel. It has a peaked wooden ceiling with large beams in the living room and a woodstove. We ended up putting on an addition of another 600 square feet because of the birth of our 2 children. It was a challenge for sure with 2kids and all their stuff. The funny thing is all their friends wanted to be here! This year will be our 43rd year in our cozy cottage. The kids are all grown up and now it's the perfect retirement home!

I love what Jonas said about getting to see more of your home, and less of the objects in it. Living in a smaller space seems to really help you be intentional about what's in your home, and I think that's a beautiful thing. ✨And I love that used tea trick--what a great way to use something to its fullest potential! But of course, the last tip is my favorite--you guys melt my heart 🤍

Why am I just finding you both today? I love you guys! You are such an adorable couple and your cottage is so charming and welcoming. Me and my husband have a his and hers cottage seperated by a meadow and it works well for us, even though most people don't understand our living arrangement. I found an antique bed on sale for only 69 dollars at a consignment store and for a sofa, I plan on building a window seat that can also be a bed for company. Many more years of love and happiness in your sweet home.

I moved back to my childhood home. 9 rooms, 3 bedrooms, living room, dining room, 1 bath, utility, greatroom and kitchen. I'm there alone, but I intend to declutter and stack my clothes vertically like you have. I host our family holiday meals, and everyone hangs out, some stay with me. My grandkids stay some weekends with me, and a few days every few weeks in summer. I enjoy your chanel very much. I've been very selective in my decor pieces, and have found some items that my parents used to have to add back into their home.

I love small cozy homes. We raised 2 children in a 1100 sq ft home and absolutely loved it, we love being close to one another. Our kids never once felt like they were driving us nuts in such a small home because we taught them from a toddler how to behave, to pick up after themselves so they were nothing but a joy to have around and I also home schooled them from k-12 in our small home. We sold that home and had a custom home built on 2 acres and built an open floor layout small 2 story cottage style home. The main floor is 1000 sq ft and includes our bedroom and small bathroom, and open floor plan kitchen, livingroom and dining area that is pretty small, a half bath and tiny mudroom. The second story is 2 bedrooms a full bath and a loft that is like another small living area but rarely used. We took the space under the stairs to make into a pantry where I had every inch of space made to work for us with custom shelving and hooks, even very narrow shelves no space was wasted, in our tiny hallway off the kitchen and where we usually come into the house from is our washer and dryer and I installed beadboard with hooks all through the hallway to hang all our coats, hats etc from as I turned what would have been a closet into a built in bookshelf with cupboard below for storage. We have our tv hidden above the fireplace behind doors ehen noy in use. We used transoms above the doors to bring in lots of light and I cant tell you the difference that makes, even putting one above the entryway from the hallway/mudroom off our carport leading into the kitchen makes a ton of difference. We used a lot of pocket doors and even a couple of sliding doors wherever we could to not have to deal with opening doors that close off space or are difficult to move around due to smaller spaces and that too makes an incredible difference. I love to look for furniture that can double as storage too. I just love making use and challenging myself to find way to make a ton of room in a really small space. Natural light was very portent to us so we opted to do without the wall space to have more windows put in througjt the house and I feel like I'm part of the outdoors because of that no matter where in the house I am. In the loft we went with a cute futon that doubles as a couch and a bed for guests as up until this month, both our kids were still living with us. Now my daughter is getting married so I will have a nice proper guest room but it still worked. We had a nook upstairs that the original plans called for a desk but we had a custom built bed nook made in its place that has tons of storage underneath and serves as another bed for guests or just a cozy sitting area to read or watch TV. We have a screened in porch off our bedroom and a front porch that act as seasonal living spaces too. Give me small cottage homes over large spacious homes any day! We love it!

Wow thank you so much for sharing how you've really made use of all of your small space, that must be so nice to design it yourself. That's been one of our biggest challenges at this cottage because it was really not designed for space storage or for two people lol but we make it work and it's a fun challenge 🏡❤️

@@itsacharminglife it is a fun challenge especially if like we both are, lovers of antiques and I love small collections but I have to be careful because of very limited space on how much I collect or know I need to decluttler or pass on some things I live to others just like you mentioned. Nice tips and my husband and I started out living in a 900 square feet farm carriage house within 2 years we had 2 children and wound up living there for 15 years. We realized we had to move into a bigger home since we only had 1 bathroom and 2 bedrooms. Our son and daughter shared a room until almost 13 and 11 years old. It definitely was time to move. We had our home custom built 13 years ago but it’s under 1700 square feet. Our kids needed privacy as did we. Now that we’re empty nesters now we’re happy for the extra space especially since our children will soon have their own families that will visit us a lot for holidays and such ❤️

With spring coming, it's time to renew and refresh which made your video very timely. My husband and I started small, but over our 44 years of marriage and children, our home grew and grew. So did our belongings. I've recently begun gifting and donating many things to get back to only having very specific items to keep. That said, despite having a big home, we find ourselves together in the same area most times. I love having the space for grandchildren sleepovers and when family and friends come to stay but in our everyday lives we are just two people cozy in one small space😊

I've lived small for most of my adult life. My smallest space was living in a carriage house behind a historic Victorian house. The space was L-shaped, I had a pull down bed in the closet in the living room, a kitchen so tiny I could reach the stove, fridge & sink by standing in one place. I had a tiny bathroom with a slanted ceiling, but best feature was a claw foot bathtub. I currently live in a 450 foot one bedroom, I bathroom place and keep the furniture to a minimum, which makes the place seem bigger.

I love how warm, cozy and homey your home looks😌 But I do have a question that you might or might not want to answer. It’s something I’ve always wondered but have never really asked. Anyways thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us ☕️🏡

That's a good question, we happen to live in one of the most expensive counties in America so I'm not sure our situation would be relatable to other people depending where you live. But I can say that the cottage rent is generally less expensive than most apartments in our county but that's probably a lot due to the fact that the cottage has a lot of quirks and is next of cemetery 🏡🕸️

I now live in a larger space but I still do a lot of what you mentioned because I want to live minimally and not accumulate “stuff” to sit in closets. It also feels more organized and peaceful when things are organized and not cluttered. I also don’t need a lot to be happy. Everything in my house I use. If something hasn’t been used in the past year, I donate it to bless someone else with. I haven’t tried the loose tea, dried for the carpet. I will have to try that.

You have a lovely little cottage. It is true you can stay closer and it means so much. Good tips. Numer 3 is tough for me, as I remember who gives me things and each time, I pick it up to think I would part with it, I feel terrible as I remember the person who gifted it! But it must be done We have a Brick cottage home. in a small village. My husband and do well, but we wish it were smaller as we have stairs and we are seniors and it can be hard to get upstairs with my back and knees needing surgery. Well, hips now need surgery, back is done. But I am active in other ways and still can do it! But need a bedroom downstairs, and hate to change rooms around to make one down, quite yet. We would lose the Dining room and may jst need to make it a Living Room so that room can be the bedroom? I must leave the Den in the evening as my husband does not like me talking os much to him. So we part. It is fine as I like time to myself too! When we had our lovely, sweet, dear Cat named, BABY * She was a "Norwegian Forrest Cat" and we lost her after she was 18 yrs, of age, and we are not over her yet, maybe never will be over this? ! *It has been over two years since she passed* We still love her so much, but she used to know how we needed to separate n the evening and she would go to the doorway and look at me, and then the kitchen and then back at me as if to say ' Mom it is time, you must go now" She was way too smart about everything! So cute. She would visit me in Living Room or her dad in the Den and had her beds hidden in each room we went. She would be brushed twice a day! So although oru home is smaller too, we find we do have a backyard and areas to get outside during nice weather too. Winters are harder.

You two are just adorable! I'm definitely taking the space saving tips to heart. My husband and I are building our own very small house ourselves (yes, literally the two of us and some tools) and I'm really having fun designing in special hidden spaces for our hobbies and creative pursuits. With two creatives in less than 700 square feet...well, you already know! 🤣 Plus we've just discovered that after nearly 10 years of marriage, we're going to have to add on a small extension for some newcomers to the family! 🥳 👶👶Nothing like throwing a curve ball into the middle of a construction project, right? Thank you for such lovely, calming content that has become a bedtime ritual for us and for the wonderful inspirations for fellow creatives. Keep up all of your great work!

I just recently found your channel, I feel so lucky to be able to watch you both living your life with such love. In today's world, that is special....as I age I want to slow down and enjoy the simplest life I can, I love vintage items too, especially christmas. You both have inspired me to enjoy a slower way of life, thank you! ❤❤🙏✌️

This is wonderful! My house is a 600 sq. ft. bungalow in NY & I love the coziness of it. It took me over a year to furnish it with both vintage & unique pieces too. Thanks for sharing your home with us. It’s so lovely! ❤

I also sell/refurbish antiques. Have you ever thought of building a "She/He" shed for gardening, crafts, alone time, indoor exercise? I would love to introduce you to "barre" wk outs. A Barre can double as a hanger/quilt holder. It can be placed. outdoors. Also, (sorry you two have inspired me SO much!), have you thought of having a barn built? Even a room size version? It could be used for entertaining or just enjoying/exercising in colder months. A loft space would be awesome. I live in Douglas, MA. Are you in the Berkshires?
@itsacharminglife2 жыл бұрын
those are fun ideas! We are just renting so we don't want to put too much time/money into adding more space at this time, though of course we've dreamed about what we could do if we owned the cottage! We're in the Sleepy Hollow Countryside but adore the Berkshires!

Would you ever feel comfortable doing a home tour? Or walk through on how you like to shore things? Also do you plan to buy the cottage? I feel like it’s such a precious little Gem.

Me too. I would love a tour of the cottage.

We really ought to do a tour, I guess we've been waiting to feel like it was "perfect" But that's probably never going to happen lol Plus sometimes we just don't know how much we want to share for privacy 🏡 But a storage type video could be nice ✨
