Discovering the Wing Clipper ruler was a game changer for me when it came to making accurate flying geese units. Also, I find making my HSTs slightly oversized and sliver trimming down to the exact size greatly improves my accuracy when piecing. Your narrow black border did the trick. Good job!!!

I love the Wing Clipper ruler too. I don’t use pins because they tend to shift the fabric slightly. I just line up the join at the sewing machine.

❤Thank you for showing all your little issues. I so needed to see this today. I am quilting 22 quilts for all my family for Christmas. I’m on quilting 10 today. And everything went wrong. LOL. I walked away and went to bed early to watch You Tube quilters. And I found you in all your glorious fumbles. Thank you. I will now go back tomorrow and conquer this quilt!!! I am feeling so much better knowing that even professional quilters have rough days. Thank you. ❤

Man, I was glad to see "my" blocks on this video. I sometimes have the hardest time getting things lined up. I took my first ever quilt top apart multitudes of times. I finally just called it quits. The bottom row would not come out right. I was all for throwing it in the trash but my fantastic husband convinced me to keep it. It hangs on the wall in the guest room and I absolutely love it. Don't know that it will ever turn into a finished quilt but I think it is a wonderful 1st quilt hanging on the wall. LOL Thank you very much for this wonderful video.

Your husband truly is fantastic for having you keep your first ever quilt. I was such a gutless. lily, livered, chicken, that I didn't even dare do HST's for the first 8 years I quilted! And you tackled them on your first quilt! That #5 tip plays here, practice, practice, practice. And then you still might not get htem perfect! Thanks for watching Shanna :) !!

Oh Di, early in my quilting experience I made a bear's paw quilt for my sister. I had more than 280 2-1/2 inch half square triangles to make for the "claws". And my machine ate most of them. I swore to never make these little triangles again. But I soon realized that HSTs are very useful in many quilt patterns. So I started using leaders and enders and as you suggest, I practiced doing them. I started with bigger ones and then gradually started making them smaller. Could not quilt without HSTs!
@sisterchicksquilting3 ай бұрын
Great experience Eileen😊 you’re correct, a quilter can hardly quilt without HST’s. I believe they are the #1 basic block of quilting. I remember my machines eating corners & wish I’d had that simple knowledge back then. TFW🦇♥️🦇🐥

Tip number one start with cut accurately. The slightest cut off will not align to make a perfect Flip and stitch corner. I also use the block lock flying geese ruler. Some people oversize their block, but I am just careful too when I cut to cut on the outside line of the lines of the ruler not directly on the line or on the inside. Hope it helps. It took me quite a while to master my flying geese.❤

@sisterchicksquilting It is gorgeous and the colors are so perfect. I'm also looking for a design and more grown up colors for my 16 yr old grandson's Halloween quilt. I made my first Halloween quilt this September for my 11 yr old granddaughter. It was easy to find many patterns and fabrics for a girl, but as you know 16 yr old boys are not gonna want a juvenile looking quilt. I really like the idea of a large panel with the right fabrics like that skeleton. Thank you
