Thanks for the tips Brady! How about some tips for other positions, if you can't take a prone shot?
@bradymiller6317
@bradymiller6317 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it, Stevie. I actually did record two videos this day, and the second one is also mainly focused on prone again, but there is a tip there at the end on another technique. But I love talking about rifles :) So I'm going to follow this up with a third video and talk with the team to find a time to go shoot some videos. If ammo components weren't so hard to get ahold of for reloading, I'd love to send some rounds downrange during these videos :)

Thanks for the tips Brady. I’m going to give the three finger grip a try. What bipod are you using?

Glad you enjoyed it, Mike! I currently use the MDT Ckye Pod regular (bipod in the video). But I've also used a Rugged Ridge bipod a ton in the past. This past year was the first full season I have used the MDT bipod, and I love it!

Thanks for the video, Brady! Quick question: did you buy a Browning X Bolt, then buy a custom McMillan stock, and bed it yourself? If so, what bedding compound did you use? Thanks!
@bradymiller6317
@bradymiller6317 2 жыл бұрын
Correct. I have an X-Bolt Long Range and then I purchased the aftermarket McMillan stock directly from McMillan. Browning does sell several rifles with McMillan stocks, but I just picked up the rifle I wanted and did a stock swap because it was just easy for me and I like to tinker with things. I do personally bed all my stocks and what I have found the easiest is Devcon 10110 Plastic Steel Epoxy and/or Marine-Tex. I prefer to use Devcon as I just got used to it. But you can't go wrong with either of them in my opinion.

Recently I’ve fallen into a slump of flinching. I’ve heard a little about dummy rounds. So today my dad pressed out a couple for me. Going to target shoot with night vision tonight and see how it goes.

Really, you check your level when game is running and you need to shoot????
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT Жыл бұрын
Hey Sam. This is Brady responding to you. First off, I would never shoot at a running animal. And yes, I will always check my level before taking a shot since I owe it to the animal to make the best shot possible. There are a bunch of different ways to shoot, for sure. This just works for me. Thanks for checking out the video!

I disliked this video because to rely solely on the prone position is NOT a hunter. It is absolutely idiotic to assume every shot you will take is from the prone position. Of the hundreds of animals I’ve hunted I’ve only taken 2 from the prone position.
@bradymiller6317
@bradymiller6317 2 жыл бұрын
That's totally cool. I can't please everyone :) I just sat back and thought of all the big game animals I've shot with a rifle, to see how many I shot that I wasn't in a prone position and I can only think of two animals that I didn't shoot prone (one elk and one mule deer). I'll find a spot to shoot prone or move around until I get prone. Keep in mind that I mainly just hunt mule deer, black bear and antelope on a regular basis. So those hunts I feel like I can always find a way to get prone.

@@bradymiller6317 …and that’s good for you. But please don’t mislead others into thinking there is only the prone position.

@@richardkramer1094 I hear where you're coming from... but keep in mind that there will always be people who might not exactly like what I say and if I said something different, I'd get heat from the other crowd. What I care about is making one shot count and like I said in the video, I owe it to an animal to do what I can to make that happen. And if someone hears that, maybe there is a person out there who might be just starting out and they remember that 5 feet to their right is a spot where they could setup prone and take a better shot at an animal. Or they will realize they need to get closer if they wanted to use a different shooting technique. Shooting situations while hunting are always fluid and never the same, which is why I practice everything when I can... but I lean on prone for my hunting situations.

@@bradymiller6317 I completely agree with you. Here’s where there is a problem; too many people do not know their gun or do not practice enough, not near enough. We have too many people taking too long a shot at our majestic wildlife and either wounding or killing them and never retrieve the carcass. I’ve seen more of this crap than I care to stomach. Yes, @Brady Miller, you do practice and know your rifle and the elements in which you hunt and do not shoot beyond your capabilities, I applaud you for that. However, there are too many people who are not “hunters” and will take potshots at game animals which are far beyond their capabilities. Yes, they could learn from this video, and it is a good video, IF they will spend time behind their own rifle - but many will not. I practice in the off-hand position and have for over 50 years. I do this not because I will always take shots from that position, more often than not I won’t it’ll most likely be the sitting position, I practice the off-hand because it is the hardest to master. The point being, I am sick and tired of idiots taking shots far beyond their capabilities.

@@richardkramer1094 I absolutely love this discussion! And each conversation we have, I hope people take the chance to read and dive in and understand practicing and practicing often is key. We all absolutely love the animals we pursue and the more we practice any and all techniques, the more we know where our weakness are and what to do to improve. There’s even so much practice to do with a rifle where someone doesn’t even need to fire a round. Some of those we have released in other videos I was in and I wrote some articles on it too. I always like to bring up to people (and even to myself) that we need to be like a sponge when it comes to hunting, rifles, biology, etc. the more we all soak up info, the better educated and the more knowledge and skill we can take into the field. I actually did two videos this day. And I think you’ll like the end of the second rifle video coming out soon where I do talk about different shooting positions (one technique mainly) besides prone.
