Never run in a dark on an unknown trail or even a road. If there are no other choices, there is absolutely a must headlamp, spare batteries, and lower pace.

Running at night on the trail is actually quite beautiful. As long as you have a good headlamp and batteries like you mentioned, and you're familiar with what wildlife you might come across and how to react, it's a wonderful experience.

Easy run at a 4:30 pace? Crazy! :)

Not sure how “easy” that run truly was 😉

Not sure if you can experience an actual trail run within 30 minutes 😀but impressively fast you are!! In my experience road runners are usually very fast in the uphills but then totally collapse in the downhill - especially if it is technical terrain. Give yourself enough time to train the eccentric muscle movements and the eye to foot coordination required for fast downhills or technical terrain. Shoewise: take model that is lower to the ground. Lower risk to sprain your ankle as with the road running sofa shows.

@yarradas these are all great points. I found that one of my greatest limiters on the trail was confidence and forward planning: I was so focused on my one next step that I didn’t bother to look more than three metres ahead of myself. It made it hard to prepare for the next few strides!

I do easy short runs on road and flat surface and the other runs like specific hill runs or long runs on trails.

5 trail runs, not a single one looked like a trail run. 😉
