FYI for those travelling internationally who didn't watch this video all the way through - it is illegal to bring fresh produce or dairy and meat products across borders for most European countries and Canada due to biosecurity risks. Just because they aren't always enforced, doesn't mean you should do it. There are food sniffing dogs for those things at a lot of airports. Also, never accept the hot water on airplanes - common flight attendant tip. Apparently those kettles are GROSS.

I made it to and from Greece with my snacks in a little reusable grocery tote that I would just tie onto my carryon while going through the airport. Nobody questioned it or looked in it, ever. I sometimes will bring some beef jerky. A few years ago, I started time restricted feeding, sometimes called intermittent fasting. I don't eat or drink (except water) from dinner until lunch the next day. I found that I can easily not eat and not get hangry! Also comes in handy when you have to have any procedures that are NPO after midnight.

If you are diabetic, yes you CAN bring an extra bag (cooler bag) for your insulin/medications/snacks. Same with a CPAP machine. You can bring both a bag for your CPAP machine AND a bag for your insulin and medications. My CPAP bag is a mid=size soft side duffel and I used it to bring an extra t-shirt and socks and such (used as padding to protect the machine). My insulin cooler also holds a few necessary refridgerated items like cheese and grapes for low=blood sugar emergencies.

I know right?! But in my case I get sandwiches at a places where I can't get it anywhere else. Like Dish Delish out of SeaTac airport or La Bakery out of JFK Airport and I'll just get a coconut water. But I haven't traveled out of state since 2019 so I don't know if Dish Delish is still around and I haven't been to NYC in 7 years so I don't know if La Brea bakery is still there. But I highly recommend both places if you like hot sandwiches too. We used to buy LA Brea's bread for years so I could just recreate their sandwich at home.

I pack two bagels with cream cheese for our morning flights. Lorna Doone and peanut snack packs, which we usually have at home. I will also make a charcuterie box for a long flight to Vegas. We use the Contigo for hot or cold drinks. We get hot water from a restaurant, usually at no charge. I add a tea bag for me and single-serving coffee packets for my husband. We usually buy a large water at the airport and share it.

I really like the Starbucks bag hack but just a bit of advice: if you're asking for some hot water or using a saved SB bag, I would pay the $2-4.00(or a tip) for at least a pastry or snack, etc. for their help. I am going on a cruise in September out of Lisbon, Portugal and have to fly from Miami. I'm going to make your pasta recipe but put the salad in a Ziploc bag that I will eat BEFORE my flight and can just toss in the trash (I will have abt a five hr wait at the airport. Rather be super early than late lol). I will put the rest of my snacks in a Starbucks bag for the 8hr flight.

@curlgirl4265 I was also worried about this (low carb/gluten free) issue with our upcoming trip to Europe in the Spring 2024. A couple tips I’ve gathered is -to learn the words “gluten free” in other languages, to ask for options at restaurants, to bring your own option on the airplane (like this lovely charcuterie board idea), and perhaps to find hotels that cater to those who have food allergies. Of course, doing a vrbo or Airbnb gets you your own kitchen, and possibly could look for a place that is not too far from an open farmers market?

I have one thing to add…taste buds taste foods differently in the pressurized environment. Nobody will notice you eating fresh veggies (eating healthy). Now I want a falafel. I wouldn’t want to eat soup because I don’t like salty foods when I fly. Peanuts of all sorts are fine when most of us got used to them on airplanes. This salad (I wish I had thought of this, a long time ago)…is perfect for a long drive (my family drove a lot when my kids were young - ski trips for my son and husband). Do not bring fleshy fruit because it will turn to mush in no time (30minutes to 1hr, this happened to me) on longer flights. Blueberries are best as are apples, grapes (and bring some knife for the apples - the juice will run).

Those tips are great when flying from home, but what about the return trip when you don't have a kitchen?

Stop by a local grocery store wherever you are and grab some items from the deli!

If a person is watching your videos on a smart TV they can access the links by doing the following: On your remote, click on up arrow to highlight title of video, click on it again, and then click on it again. You can scroll through the info with the up and down arrows. You can't click on the arrows but if there is a particular link you're looking for you can jot it down and Google it yourself

I read that tsa won’t allow liquids, meaning water bottles, so hot water will be an issue? Thanks🙏🏻

You cannot bring water through the TSA line, but there are plenty of restaurants once you are through security that you can ask to fill up a bottle with hot water. Hope this helps!

Correction: I fly EVERY weekend. Mostlu southwest. However, the cheaper flight, especially frontier, will make you condense those "shopping in airport bags." I've seen people having to shove the starbucks, snacks, etc, in their purses/backpacks weekly, lol... that's as of 2023 . Also, they have a "strict" 40-pound limit on check-in luggage. So please weigh before jumping in line.

I knew about the 40 pound weight limit, it just started last Spring for Frontier. I've been lucky so far and they haven't made me shove my food bag somewhere! 😊

@@GenxGypsy1968 I have a feeling you don't abuse the system like some other folks might. Some of those airport shopping bags can get huge lol. A SB bag seems small and reasonable to me.....but we all know Frontier and Spirit are hot and cold on the bag issue. Somehow, I just walked on to these planes in the past wth a humongous backpack stuffed to the seams as my PI and have seen other people get stopped for having a tiny fanny belt on in addition to their personal item. My secret is I am usually one of the last people to board and by this time, I think the flight attendants and crew just want to depart.

If I take a burrito that needs to be heated up will they do it on the plane
@GenxGypsy1968 Жыл бұрын
I would not count on the flight attendants heating anything up for you, mainly from a safety perspective... I'm pretty sure they are not going to want to put an unknown item into a microwave on a plane 😊

Several years ago I bought an airport salad for the flight and was told it counted as a carry on. I already had a carry on and a personal item and they wouldn’t let me board with a “third” item. I had to throw my lunch away before they let me board! This was in the early 2000s. I don’t know how it is now, though.
@GenxGypsy1968 Жыл бұрын
Wow!! I have never been told I couldn't bring my food on board that I had bought at the airport and I've been flying for almost 40 years now. That's just crazy! I don't think they can get away with denying you now since they do not supply "free" meals or snacks most of the time when you are flying domestically. There would be some really hangry people on the plane! 😊

@@GenxGypsy1968 Before I retired several years ago flew on a regular basis. I never thought the airline "owed" me a snack on the flight. Always thought it was something nice that they offered.
