That's not scuba but surface demand diving. Like you see on the old films of the 1950,s. This is commercial or navy diving. If you do. Military or commercial diving you don't just do scuba but also surface demand diving boat handling and many other things related to this.

I started as a navy mine clearance adqual diver engineer. Great guys. Some died some worked oil rigs and some went commercial. Those who did made a good living and had property in several countries. One or two still dive commercially doing TV work. These day I just do PADI and BSAC diving.

Do you think that being a diver in the military gives you an edge in the commercial field? That is considering it’s such a competitive line of work.
@kurtsteiner8384
@kurtsteiner8384 2 жыл бұрын
@@GabrielMartinez-zu6li I a word yes it does give you an edge if yiu want to be a commercial diver. But its not for everyone. I have known some who started military diver, then did civiliand sport diving and went on to do commercial diver training. If you go direct to commercial diver school you start from scratch, which is not a bad thing. If you have a diving certification you can miss out some of the really basic stuff after an assessment.

@@ginobrun1 Ironically enough you'll save money by just getting all your own gear as fast as possible. Assuming you really like diving and know you will continue doing it of course. More likely than not it's worth it.

@frank Smith hi to you young man. The short version of my story is; I always wanted to be a working diver, joined the Royal Navy at 17yrs in 1971, left at 21yrs and started working in the North Sea as a diver. There have been good times and some lean times but I guess I would do it all again - with a few changes. I have worked/dived USA, South America, Iceland, Norway, the Med, West Africa, M East, India, Russia and all over the far east. I am now a diving superintendent which is the guy that takes overall charge of an offshore diving project. I started at the right time in history but regarding diving as a career now... its not such a reliable form of income so take some serious advice (not from dive schools) on your chances. I would probably advise you to get into electronics and go into ROV's and just dive as a hobby. However, I know young guys that have proved me wrong and ignored all advice to carve-out a good career for themselves.

I am a PADI scuba dive master. But I work in Commercial diving. And its true, IMCA license was so expensive. And there was so many indian divers who passed the training and yet fail to do the jobs and some who knows the work but so lazy. Anyway its seems that IMCA was for business and no longer for professional training. Sad but true. For my side i hope there will be new training center for commercial licensing and charges not to much like IMCA.

Highly recommended though, it was my clubs first time running it and there was 12 people doing it and it was a fun course. Even if you have sea dived or are experienced I would still recommend. Listen to me here; No company will ever, nor have they ever, sent 'scouts' to diving schools - why would they be looking for 'talented beginners' when they have cart-loads of very talented and highly experienced guys knocking on their doors all the time?
@Dan-di2qj
@Dan-di2qj 4 жыл бұрын
Because beginners need the opportunity, so they're cheaper. I've heard plenty of stories of recruiters at dive schools. When there's only a couple of commercial dive schools in the country its not a massive burden to send someone along at the end of a course to see if they can pick up a "bargain".
@Berkcam
@Berkcam 4 жыл бұрын
@@Dan-di2qj listen to me, there are no bargains' to be found at a dive school - only a bunch of complete novices who have spent $$$$ in the hope that they will find a career. and most don't. Forget any stories you may have heard, they are as worthless as the one about Goblins living under your bed. At the present time even experienced divers are cheaper per day and have lost many of their perks with some having to pay their own international flights etc. I have been a working diver since 1971 and am still in the offshore diving business so I may know what I'm talking about.

Military diving really isn’t a thing anymore there are still lots of military Jobs that train you to be a combat diver but the war with terrorism doesn’t require going in the water because terrorists don’t really have ships or underwater mines BUT the special forces like navy seals or any other special forces unit may do TOP secret missions that are VERY dangerous underwater like (EXAMPLE) swimming to a ship stealthily and rescue an ambassador. (I only the know the US’s military combat divers standards) The US military standards for divers is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND CHALLENGING so don’t attempt being to join any special forces unit that makes you do some form of diving unless YOU ARE THE TOP PERCENT OF THE WORLD IN ATHLETES AND THE TOP PERCENT OF DIVERS IN THE WORLD SO DON’T JOIN!
