1- Because they want to keep the show aimed at kids aged 8-12 and it's a fact that the protagonist in any show is a good indicator for the age range of audience they are aiming for. 2- Because then people would just bitch that "he won the league, he's done, why is he still training?" 3- The people in pokemon ARE pokemon and that is why they can survive attacks. They recover just like pokemon do. 4- You can bring pokemon to another region but their experience level has to be reset to level five so that you don't just rip through the gyms and the league with your level 100 pokemon from other regions. That would be unfair to trainers in this region and would discourage people from trying to be a trainer. 5- Because having companions creates conflicts and plots, every protagonist needs someone to bounce off of or they're just talking to themself.

This theory is supported by the theory that there are more than 1 legendary Pokemon of the same species, like Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres. Here's a theory: Perhaps Legendaries are only determined as genderless for the sake of the games so no one could continuously breed armies of them, thus kinda losing the whole 'Legendary' status. Heatran is a Legendary yet shows a gender, and apparently Manaphy and Phione can breed... It's a bit inconsistent and not always reliable as a source, but the Anime does mention a few cases of gender specified Legendaries like Latios and Latias being brother and sister and having a father Latios, multiples of a species like Mew, the Legendary Birds & Dogs/Beasts etc. so there's definitely some form of multiplying going on, unless Arceus just sorta poofs them into existence whenever he feels like it? XD... Or they're hermaphrodites like snails. :P Feel free to light the flames. ;P

I think Legendaries can potentially reproduce, but not in the way we all imagined. If I recall in the end of I believe the fourth Pokémon Movie (The one with Latios and Latias, please don't hate me for getting it wrong), Latios did technically die to recreate that gemstone. But also at the end, we see a Latias AND a Latios fly off. So I believe some Legendaries, perhaps when they sense their energies getting weak or their time is running out (if that's possible too) that they sort of recreate like a spiritual double who they can train and raise before passing their true power onto them to take their role.

I think the naming thing is JUST there for the kid friendly anime to make them more recognisable for kids. The games and the new web show along with the Origins anime all suggest that Pokemon have animalistic growls and screams. Many of those sound similar to the Pokemon's name. It's basically like if we would have called cows Moohs or dogs Woofs.

Of course legendary Pokemon can breed. Isn't it obvious that it's just a game mechanic that they are genderless in the games to prevent players to mass breed legendaries? Think about this: In the first movie they found a Mew fossil. Which means that a Mew died at one point. Which means legendaries are not immortal. In order to not go extinct they have to breed right? How else do you explain there is a Mew alive in the first movie (and also in the eight movie..) when Mew died and they found its fossil. Do you get what I mean?

I've got a couple questions about the game and manga more than the anime, but Pokémon related nevertheless. 1: Did Blaine and Mr.Fuji work with Team Rocket to create Mewtwo? There's small traces of evidence to suffice there's links which may or may not correlate to it (EG: the picture at the back of Blaine's gym im Cinnabar Island), is there more pieces of the puzzle that I've missed? 2: Who or what in the games gave Sabrina her phsycic powers? Numbers of people have said Giovanni, because of a whip which rockets have in the character's look and the amine also states that Sabrina was a highly ranked member of Team Rocket and with her help, Giovanni gave Sabrina her powers. The only flaw in this which makes me believe this to be false is that when Saffron City was surrounded, her gym was blocked off and she's the mistress of phsycic Pokémon, which is super effective on Poison types, which is what every Rocket had at least one of. Did she learn her powers or did Giovanni grant her wish and gave her the powers? 3: Who is Silver's mom? In the Celebi event, Silver was seven years old and it shows that in the Japanese script, Giovanni is Silver's dad and left him because he failed to achieve his goal of conquering Kanto. Silver is dressed similarly to Giovanni with the dark jacket and jeans, whilst his facial appearence looks like Team Rocket executive, Ariana. Is Ariana his mom, even though he tried to make Team Rocket fall to their demise? Did Giovanni never speak of Silver's mom and he decided to disband Team Rocket as an act of revenge against his dad? Or is Silver's mom someone else? 4: Did Giovanni commit suicide after the failure of his mission to conquer the Kanto reigon? When you defeat Team Rocket at Saffron City, you don't face the rockets again, except for the boss Giovanni in the Viridian Gym for the Earth badge. When you defeat him, he announces that Team Rocket will be disbanded and he flees from the gym. Unbeknownst to Red's wellbeing, upon your way to the Indigo Plateau, Giovanni bumps into his son and lefts him at Route 22 ans hides in the cove in the Tojho falls. In the Celebi event, the radio plays the report that the rockets have taken over the Goldenrod radio tower, which in the manga, happened a few months before Gold encounters Celebi (according to a couple of sources of mine). Upon defeating Giovanni, he leaves the cove and he hears a loud splash. Did he commit suicide and fall to his watery death? 5: Again sticking to death, did Red die on Mount Silver with his Pokémon? Upon taking the role of champion in Kanto after finishing Blue's short reign on the throne, Red got hate upon taking the title after Blue earned it a short while before he did. In revenge to take, Blue told people that Red killed his Raticate and with this amount of hate on him, Red leaves on his own journey to find himself. He vigorously trained in the freezing temperatures of Mount Silver for a while and apperently died, but his spirit lingered. When Gold claimed the 8 badges of Kanto, Johto and claimed the title of Johto champion from Lance, he faced his ultimate challenge of climbing to the top Mount Silver where he saw Red. Upon the victory against the Kanto champion, did Gold actually face Red in the flesh and Red committed suicide at the top of Mount Silver? Or upon Red's defeat, was his spirit at peace and his spirit joined his body and he was finally able to rest in peace? Bit of a comment but these questions have made me spectulate and wonder what's the truth behind these and what evidence supports the answer, as some of the answers I've given are possible answers/theroies.

Some legendary / mythic Pokémon, including Lugia, DO have multiples and can breed in the wild. They just don't breed in captivity and are excessively rare.

I never really questioned Lugia since Ash mentioned seeing one before in the Orange Islands (the one in the movie). And the one in the movie is male, going by the voice it uses to speak to them. That would mean the later Lugia is female, and Silver is their child. Legendary Pokemon are simply so rare that their breeding habits and grounds are unknown, hence why they can't. Basically think critically endangered.

most of those questions are answered in the manga my questions are 1. why is there no dark type gym. 2. how do poke balls shrink Pokemon. 3. how have Pokemon and poke balls been around so long, but all the professors only now work together to identify them all. 4.why aren't the manga characters referenced in the show, they are way cooler. (crystal literally catches them all) 5.Arceus didn't have a fairy plate at first, so where did the fairy type and plate come from.
