I wouldn't recommend doing the koto thing on a guitar that you like or that is expensive. Puts alot on extra stress on the neck and neck joint because of the angle of the strings. I would only try that one with a cheap guitar.

You can also push on the portion of the strings behind the nut and before the tuners to achieve a vibrato effect. It can sound very cool and also works with harmonics.
@saywhat4314
@saywhat4314 4 жыл бұрын
8:35 never thought this technique sounded good. But you can go past the nut and slightly press all the strings down to get a similar effect without the risk.
@tw8245

I mean what risk really is there. There is over 115 pounds of pressure on a guitar neck at all times. A little push isn't doing much.

Wow these tips were so much more substantial than I expected them to be! Also, “air tapping” harmonics like Erik Mongrain, bending a string above the nut, percussive techniques on an acoustic, tuning a ringing note via tuning pegs, and honestly picking location to affect timbre (so few people seem to realize how big of a difference there is between picking at the bridge and half way up the neck) are a few other ones I use. Never seen the koto trick though! Sounds so beautiful.

They BROKE the spaghetti right in front of him, and tossed it into the cell with him. The bastards. He broke like the spaghetti, turned states evidence, and now works for them. I end the Beatles "Oh Darling" with a vibrato neck bend to stimulate a slightly warped album. (33 1/3 Bends PM) 😉 I just checked... While the original has some reverb at the end I don't really hear vibrato. Since I started adding that from the very first time I played Oh Darling, I'm guessing the album my sister had when I was 8... in the early sixties... was warped. I have always heard it that way. So... Is there a bend at the end on that song that I'm missing? Or were the Beatles selling bent albums?

I tried the Japanese one it was pretty dope. I didn't need the pen and rubber bands though just the slide. I used the cloud on the big sky and it was sick.

I use a similar technique to sliding harmonics on my fretless bass except I just push pressure right on the nut and then slide up

I just figured out a cool technique that I've been using for a song I'm doing and I don't think anyone has ever done it. It's called a harmonic tap. So basically you pick a note and then pressing the 12th fret after to activate the harmonic making a cool sound. Acoustic is fine but I think classical is better cause it's more longer to hear the harmonic

I never had an urge to close a video more than when I saw him use the tuning drill not once, but a second time just to tweak the string tension a little bit
