I’m honestly so disappointed. I finally wanted to nice curly hair and my natural 4c hair is too much to handle and expensive to maintain. I don’t like the texture of my hair, and I get tired of weave. I don’t even know what to do anymore.
@LaToyaEbonyHair4 жыл бұрын
☹️ When I first went natural it was super expensive too. I kept trying new products trying to find the right ones. Then I started using natural ingredients (ACV, Coconut oil, etc) to cut costs and see what I like...Adjusting to 4c hair from a relaxer is definitely tough. It’s like jumping on the opposite end of the spectrum...SOME people love texturizers. I’m not here to judge. I even tried it for myself. What makes your hair hair hard to maintain to you? Maybe we can help.

I think we’re all past shaming black women for their hair choices. It’s not always about “hating yourself” or “low self-esteem”. When I texturized my hair, I had SO many questions and I didn’t feel like I found the right answers. I made A LOT of mistakes with my hair, but this was the absolute worst. I CRIED ALL NIGHT to my husband, but you wouldn’t know because I showed up on camera the next week all smiles and sticking to the facts. The the REAL fact was, I ruined my hair. 🤦🏾♀️ I think especially in light of all the suffering happening in the world, we should be kind to each other. i’ve recently cut my hair to a twa & im loving it but my mom wants me to texturize my hair again. (she’s been texturizing my hair as long as i can remember, i didn’t even know what my natural curls looked like before i cut it.) shes saying how “i don’t have natural curls” when i can literally feel my curl shape on my fingers. my hair is very thick though so she might think that the texturizer would make it thinner (which is what i DONT want, i’ll live with the thickness). & like you were saying, talking abt if you don’t have a curl pattern then it’s impossible for you to have curly hair , so that had me thinking abt why is she making me do it even tho she claims i don’t have curly hair? so i’m planning on telling her abt that. also when you said “remember why you went natural”, i had to pause and really think about it because going natural was the best decision i’ve made & im only 15. i remember stressing over my hair, making sure it looks even, consistently cutting one side & all of that, & it wasn’t worth it at all. so i just wanna say thank u so much for this video, really! i’m gonna tell my mom abt what i learned so that she can stop doing it to her hair too xx

Natural is not for everyone. The tighter your hair is the harder it is to grow. You are who you are, whether you go natural or relaxing. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean you have to. Natural hair doesn't make you any blacker than you are. Be yourself.

I Texturized my 4c (or if there is such thing as 4d) hair bc I was tired of the thickness and dryness. But I am so glad I did..I used Texture My Way and I like it bc I now have more length. I only did my roots as I have shoulder length hair and I did NOT over process...all I wanted was to losen it up. My natural roots are very very dense, and my back is short and super dry. I wanted length so badly. Watching your video, your hair looks great bc it is longer just how mine is now after I texturized my roots. I have been natural for about 3 years and I had permed hair all my life prior. I live in a climate that frizzes and shrinks our hair a lot more than the US climate so many products don't do the job of defining curl pattern and showing off length. I would wet my hair and gel it doing the shingling method, section by section just to get it to look curly and moisturized. After an hour it's back to a round fro! SO I keep running to braids and crochet styles.

My hair is texturized, thank God my hair turned out exactly how it looks when it’s wet before it drys up and shrinks up lol.. I would understand though that it does take more maintenance .. I realized I can’t treat my hair the same way it was natural as in not touching it as much because the breakage can be real .. but nothing more protein can’t fix and more TLC .. for me it works I like the texture I have .. I can still do the natural styles I did before which is pretty much only a twist out cause I put it in a headscarf all the time lol but .. it works for me.. the secret I use a mild kids just for me texturizer and literally leave it for 10 minutes which is the whole application and process time .. it’s not all that bad .. I think you either get lucky with this or you don’t .. I pray the rest of my journey will go good and the good news is .. if I want to stop .. my hair will still look BOMB af even with the previously texturized hair .. 4b/4C was my texture .. just wanted to shed some light on this cause not all the time texturizing is bad it’s just how you do it .. what you use and how you maintain it

I think nobody knows their hair better then them. And a lot of times people who have bad experiences with texturizing hair is because they don’t follow directions or it’s simply too strong on THEIR hair. If it burns that means you’re scalp was irritated prior to putting it on but people will scratch their scalp, wear wigs, tight hairstyles and wonder why they are burning. Also in some of these videos I see they don’t even prep the hair by putting a thick grease on the hair and around it before applying the texturizer. I also don’t think just because one person had a bad experience doing something to their hair means that “this is bad for your hair”. These are things your just gonna have to see if your hair can manage. And if not we’ll now you know.

The last part resonated w/ me!! I had a good relationship with a relaxer. I had been getting them since I was like 2 and by the time I reached 22, my hair swept past my butt and was thick and strong. Everyone loved my hair. But, I had questions. I wanted to know what I looked like w/o a relaxer so I decided to big chop after transitioning for like 3 weeks (I couldn’t do two different hair textures lol), would it grow back stronger and longer??? Nearly a year in, I haven’t gotten all the answers but I’m invested in learning how to do my hair and love my curls so I’ll stay natural.

I thought the texturizer is to loosen the curl pattern and not destroy it. The perm should not touch my scalp and THIS IS THE REASON why I stopped perming my hair back in 2008. You are 100% right but don't let the perm touch your scalp. Every time I go to the hair salon, they burn me. NO DOUBT. I have to base my scalp with vaseline.

With me being a cosmetologist, I found over the many years when it comes to hair in general...rather the hair is texturized, relaxed, or if the person is rocking a Jerry curl, and any hair coloring services. Most do not know how to properly treat/ maintain the hair. This is especially when it comes to any type of any chemical services! People seem to not really understand, with chemical services ESPECIALLY... one is taking the hair out of it's natural state. To take the hair out of its natural state you are stripping the hair down. It's very important... whatever you take out, one has to deposit back. What I mean by deposit...is simply bringing back the nourishments the hair needs. The hair will need, a good deep conditioning, any good carrier oils...such as avocado oil, grape seed oil, Jojoba oil, Coconut oil. All of those oils work best to having healthier hair & preventing hair breakage. While all the carrier oils are good. A good start to having healthier hair is also having a good diet, more water intake and even a hair trim every once in awhile.

I’ve been natural for about eight years and have no desire to texturize. I went natural to encourage my daughter to love herself/ her hair. And my hair is naturally on the thinner side and being natural gives me the volume that I need.

Go ‘head sis!! That’s so beautiful. My son is only 19 months, but I’m so happy that he will see a role model in me. He’ll grow up loving natural hair and (hopefully) appreciating women who choose to wear their natural hair...VOLUME is my favorite!! Thank you for commenting!

I was natural for 6 years then texturized in Feb of this year. GIRL I wish I didn't lol the back of my hair is gone and my hair has massively thinned out. its def hard when you want a change but now I see it wasn't worth it. I was mid-back length and now im babying what's left to keep some hair on my head

😞 I’m so sorry to hear that. I felt the same way when I did too. We’ve scratched the itch and now we can focus on the beautiful head of hair to come. My heart goes out to you, though. Don’t worry, you’ll get that length again. You know exactly what to do. You got this!! 💜

If only there was a video like this a year ago. After texturizing I experienced the dryness, the extra maintenance, the breakage, loss of length . Texturizing really set back the progress I made with my hair journey.

I really like tour number one reason. Get protective styles for a while. Instead of protective styles I just got locs because I was going to do it anyway. I was going to wait another year to get locs, but my hair was so rebellious that I just did it at that time. I believe that all these people getting perms and going back to relaxers should consider this.

Girl girl girl!! I hated how bone-straight the salon would make my hair, so I started relaxing myself but not leaving it in the entire time (essentially texlaxing my own hair). And I have to echo what you said, "texture is never the same each time you do it." Not only that, but even though I have 4c hair, my strands are really fine and my hair would always end up sticking to my scalp with no volume. My hair then would start breaking off along the strand where texture wasn't consistent and each time I did a big chop I'd swear ever to do it again. It's 6 years natural and counting, but I still have to fight the urge to "straighten it a bit" coz shrinkage is real yall and who doesn't want long flowing hair sometimes. Thanks for reminding me why I went natural - and why I should stay like this. My hair doesn't like chemicals, it doesnt even like hair color, and it def wants to be left alone most of the time.

This is pretty much me. A couple months ago I decided to cut all my natural hair off and wear a fade on the sides and back with just some hair on to to wear in braids. Now I’m over that and in the process of growing it back out. I’m hating the ugly phase and I was considering texturizing it so it could look cute while I grew it out but I’d have to go through the ugly phase at some point if I want it natural so now I’m back to finding products 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ that’ll work for my natural 4C fine-stranded hair.

Great video!!but for y’all that seem discouraged, it depends on which texturizer you use, from what I’m seeing the texturizer she used made her hair flat almost looks like a relaxer, I had 4b/4a hair and 4c around the perimeter of my head. I used a blue container of texturizer called s-curl (the regular strength one) and I applied it and left it for about 10 minutes and now my hair is 3c-4a and the parts that were 4c stayed 4c but are a lot softer and manageable now so I still got curls and coils (an Afro overall) it’s just looser and softer now and I couldn’t be happier, so texturizers were a good experience for me, you just have to do your research and find the product that will work best for you

I’m texturizing my hair this weekend. If it doesn’t work out for me, I can always cut it. Nothing works for me at this point. And I went natural because I wanted to do more with my hair. Being natural for 9 years I can’t do much with my hair. It takes hours upon hours to do my hair only to leave it in twists or a bun. I’m over it. I can’t braid my hair down into cornrows because I can’t get through the tangled to opt for a wig. It just looks weird on my head. Stylists just rip my hair out with their brush because it’s tangled and I leave their chair with a headache. I’m done.

@LaToyaEbonyHair2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it has to be. Natural hair requires a change in perspective. Any manipulation to the hair is work whether chemically or natural hairstyles. You should do what you truly want to do in your heart.

When I use to text, I did it every 10 weeks. You know space it out. My hair honestly went back to it’s normal. Only difference when it is wet it lays flat. And after that when it dries up. It goes back to my life fro that shrink in size just like natural 4c hair. Soooo ion know. By the way my hair still grows and I do chops lol.

I did mine 🤪 not to have curly hair necessarily but my hair was soo thick 4c and sandy brown. It was like sand it absorbed moisture like a sponge then dried out within minutes. i would break my combs, I had locs twice, I was just tired. With my first baby otw, the last thing I wanted to take up all my time was my hair and my husbands locs. Did the big chop and applied the creamy crack to my twa. Soo far soo good, its def more manageable

Hey I have 4c hair and it’s really have a lot of coils I like at some points and all but it’s hard to comb out especially when it gets dry like after a shower I comb with some conditioner it’s cool and all but o ce it’s much more dry even with oils and moisturizers in it gets hard to comb out and a lot of hair falls out with it ... maybe from shedding I guess but I want to have loose curls and have an easier way to manage my hair without combing hard and short curls

I have been natural for about 13 years and for the last two, my hair has completely changed. It is brittle and dry and nothing has stopped it from breaking, including cutting the damage. I big chopped, and what little hair I had left continued to break. Since it is so short now, I've really been eyeing that relaxer box, lol. I'm glad I found this video. In my heart I knew I'd regret it, but I am at such a loss right now as to what to do with my hair. Great video.

That has to be emotionally hard. I’m sorry to hear that. The only things I can think of for you to do is slowly switch products out to see if it’s an ingredient that is hindering the strength of your hair, or something in your diet/vitamins, a vitamin deficiency, an underlying scalp or health issue, the technique you use, or your environment (where you live)...🤔 Try consulting a doctor and get some bloodwork done if you can. Sometimes our bodies tell us something is off in the weirdest ways. *hugs* I hope this gives you a place to start.
