As an ex-BBC TV producer and journalist, I have lived and worked in 17 countries and Dubai police really are amongst the best there are. They are very professional in my opinion and they are very fair in the way the handle people. Sadly I do have one gripe which sad to say will always stick with me. I had a disabled wheelchair bound friend visiting and he carries an International disabled notice (which includes Arabic) to use in a car. We went to MOE and with little spaces available we parked in the disabled spot and displayed the notice, I got his wheelchair out and helped him from the car and we did the tourism thing in MOE. I got a hefty fine and my car was impounded . The security people said the policeman never got out of the car to look at any notice. I always see Porsches and Range Rovers parked in disabled parking and I see apparently healthy young men and women get out of the cars and walk away. Do they ever have their Porsche impounded I wonder. This is an event that will stick with me.

As I have been living here for the past 23 years, I can definitely say this: like all countries, uae has a little bit of corruption in the police, 98% of them are super awesome and kind and caring, but the 2% are what residents here call fine hungry, basically they will seek every opportunity to fine anyone and everyone except rich people. Henceforth I am a little nervous putting this comment out.

@@SolacedMasculinity actually I also thought like this I used to be very scared of the Dubai police but after watching some videos I see that there methods help catch a lot of high profile criminals so it’s healthy for the country’s sake

A couple of years ago , I remember this policeman fined me for being a minute late to putting another parking ticket as I was approaching the car to replace the old ticket. Such a bummer and he insisted I get fined despite showing him proof that I paid for another ticket for the parking lot 😑

The problem with fines is that someone earning $200,000/year will feel the pain of the fine a lot less than someone on $50,000/year. Fines should not be an amount but a percentage of income.

In my area, red light cameras were deemed unconstitutional because the owner of the cars were being charged with running a red light when it wasn't always the owners driving. I'm not sure if the state fixed that or not.
@DozIT
@DozIT 6 жыл бұрын
AllAmericanGuy01 here in Ontario, Canada we (owner of vehicle) get a $350 fine and NO demerit points for that reason. You can chose to fight in court but you are legally required to identify the driver in court, which opens room for the ~$600 fine and demerit points.
@fuckgoogleforever
@fuckgoogleforever 6 жыл бұрын
ReadyToGo That's also protected under our constitutional rights, they can't force us to identify somebody. I'm assuming you live in Pennsylvania? We have the same issue, so far the best conclusion was they post a sign stating that the red light camera will take your picture if you run it.
@zemzem8323
@zemzem8323 6 жыл бұрын
AllAmericanGuy01 - here in NJ they deemed all red light cameras unsafe and all have been deactivated. There have been less accidents at the intersections where people used to slam on their brakes to prevent a red light ticket in the mail.
@brandond6700
@brandond6700 6 жыл бұрын
Nope. Same in MO all redlight cameras were required to be taken down.... Mainly because the judge ruled them as an unnecessary reason to increase revenue and it violates our rights..... The same city where our inital law suit was also got sued for pulling people over for flashing headlights to warn other drivers of police ahead... Didnt end well for the PD in that instance either

There is no reason to go over the speed limit , since they give you 20 kilometers leeway in case you get a little distracted , there is no reason to make an illegal u turn or any other traffic infraction , when there are signs informing you of those infractions ahead of time. You all are doing a great job keeping the roads safe , thank you.

In Maryland, USA it is illegal to speed and if you slow down before parking you can get a ticket. If you take a breathalyzer test and no alcohol is detected you can have your license suspended for refusing to be tested. BTW the head hijacker on the 911 disaster was stopped on the eve of 911 by a Md state police officer for exceeding 100 mph and allowed to continue after being stopped long enough to write a ticket.

This rules are good but fines are very high....due to this fines many people's left the country, A perfect driver also can break the rule, mistakenly every driver can violent the rules, If a driver person is poor he is earning some thousands of dirhams then, how can he pay the fines, if suppose he paid thousands of dirhams of fines then what will be left for him and his family in home country.....so I think this rules and regulations should be kept and the fines should be reduced. Thank you

some of those fines might be easily payable by people who earn lots. not practical but if they could fine based on one's income would be savage. just saying.

I have to say some of the things here are not true. You can drive and everybody in Dubai drives 20km/h more thenspeed limit and you will never get a ticket. On shaik zaid road you have 100km/h speed limit and you can drive 120km/h you will never get a ticket. Also you can eat and use your cell phone in a car you will never get any ticket.

He said the technology for seatbelts is still WIP. The reason cars going 120 on the speedometer don't get tickets is because speedometers are usually set to show a lower speed by 5 to 8km in cars and more in motorcycles to prevent manufacturers being sued. On the other hand, people going over 120 GPS speed do get tickets. That's usually 125 to 128 on the speedometer on most cars. Tesla does in fact give correct speed on the speedo

@@ajflyingatyomouth2831 We Arabs have always had freedom flowing though our veins, we cant even begin to comprehend following the commands and laws of anyone other than ourselves, how the prophet (pbuh) managed to unite us all under a central rule is a miracle on its own. xD
