Glad to say all these are now replaceable by plugins from other companies who don't have such a limiting (!) licensing and renewal system.

Yes I do understand that the Waves update plan is a contentious way of dealing with maintenance releases. That’s one of the controversial things I was referring to in the video. At the same I have to say that I never had to buy the WUP myself. The old plugins just keep working.

@@LanewoodStudios there was only one I had to update I'll admit (Schepps Omnichannel just stopped working with Cubase). The main issue is the lack of flexibilty in how many systems you can use them in without remembering to take your dongle. When Cubase was still dongle based this was less of an issue! Finally, I just think they're really not the best tools any more......there's way much more innovative stuff to be rewarded with my money in my opinion. :)

@@LanewoodStudios What p***** me off is that Waves Central updates itself as soon as I launch it - without my consent and with no chance to stop! I suspect that one day the updated Central is not compatible with my plugins anymore and I have then to re-buy all stuff. If you talk with them again, perhaps you have a chance to convey that. THX!

What are your favorite Waves plugins and what do you use them for?
@MaPa60
@MaPa60 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I have 5/5 of these. All great picks! My faves are the NX plugins which I use for mixing, the H series and the Magma plugins, the spring plugin is incred. I also use the riders a lot, and just got the new Space Rider, which is very promising.

My audio/music-making journey had Waves from the start, which was more than twenty years ago. I have expanded my toolset - as well as my overall knowledge - greatly since then, but I do use some things from Waves. MV2 is definitely one I use still. Most recently, I even used their Phaser for one of the tracks.

@@LanewoodStudiosIt's one of their sort of old school effect ones (MondoMod is another). It has that classic 1990s aesthetic but it does the job like it's supposed to do =]

The Renaissance series is simplification at its best. When you're in a hurry and want to make things sound good fast, they are the way to go. The One Knob series doesn't get too much love, but they are even simpler. Sometimes compressors are too complex or fiddly, and it turns out One Knob Louder is all I needed. But I gave up on Vocal Rider, doing the levels by hand is still the most precise and nuanced for me. The Waves plugin I use more than anything is Reel ADT. It gets used on pretty much every session. I need to try Center.

Ah yes, I have used Reel ADT before on acoustic guitar as well, thanks for the reminder! Never tried the One Knob series myself. I want to still be able to feel like an audio engineer ;).

My favourite Waves plugins are Omnichannel and the J37...they get used a ton. And R-Vox. I use have used vocal rider for a few years now...if you take the time to set up the sidechaining, it is an amazing tool. Quite often I don't need to do any further automation with the vocal level.

@@LanewoodStudios Indeed....and after watching your video, I'll definitely give more consideration to plugins like Center...it hasn't been on my radar, but I can see that it is quite useful!

Good old waves...back in the days they were the first choice The update plan is a pain for many, it hit me once when I switched to apple m1. I agree with your bread & butter choices. I would add the waves de- esser, which is still my go to, especially for drum overheads. R Bass ist still not replicable for my taste MaxxVolume is for me the better MV2. The ADT, the Abbey Road Reverbs and the LinMB are still much in use dispite of alternatives.

I have been using some Waves plugins for ages but interestingly enough, never noticed the existance of MV2 and Centre. My favourite is by far Scheps Omni Channel. I never used Renaisance bass but used MaxxBass to do the same thing. I wonder what is the difference betweeen these too. All the best!

Ha surprised you don’t know the MV2 as well then. It’s a real classic. I heard a lot about that channel plugin but have not tried it yet. But I will now 👍.

@@LanewoodStudios squasher, even multi-band. Wave noise removal is not bad, have it, but it is out performed by dxrevive now. Then you argue for the widener, there is also a cubase plugin which is way better, Imager again way better and multi-band. This video was not your best advice, sloppy. A lot of your other videos are fine, so do not take this a bashing, just constructive critic.
