My biggest mistake is not being patient with my hair. I'm just starting to keep it wavy instead of blow frying it and forget that my hair has to relearn that it's wavy/curly! If it's not curling, I add more product and then it gets heavy, I try and scrunch it, it doesn't do anything but start to frizz cause I forgot to get it wet first so I end up throwing my hands in the air like "that's it... I'm done!" Then have to remind myself, my hair is in transition and it will take time.. and go have a glass of wine!

You mentioned lightweight products with strong hold. What are some options? I just discovered at 45 that I have wavy hair and am LOVING it. ❤️
@sheryladams23997 ай бұрын
I recognize myself in these mistakes SOOO much when I first started on this particular journey with my hair. I’ve learned A LOT from you and a couple of other influencers over the years, but I’ll be honest it’s been mostly trial and error. We know no one’s curly or wavy hair is like anyone else’s. Mine defies all attempts at classifying it!! Even my curly friendly stylist is a little baffled by it. It’s baby, baby fine, wavy, curly when I work on it, frizzy is its natural state, has opposite curl patterns in almost every curl clump, has strange cowlicks and wave patterns in the most frustrating places, gets weighed down easily, gets too soft real easily, dries out by the end of day 2 usually, gets real producty feeling easily, etc. etc. etc. to infinity and beyond. BUT, I learn so much from you that I keep coming back and back and - well, you get the picture. I have found a routine and products that are working for now at least, but man have I blown a bunch of $$$$$ on stuff that just didn’t work for me. All that being said, I appreciate you and your hard work and your cute personality!! May God bless you and keep you!!

@@Manda698 I don’t know whether to congratulate you or commiserate with you!!! 😂. I love my hair when it acts right, but hate it when it doesn’t. I keep thinking that I’ve done something wrong at that point. But I don’t always have a clue what the mistake is. I’m working on the “embracing my hair in whatever state it’s in” attitude. My hair’s not gonna do much changing. It’s always gonna be unpredictable. I might as well enjoy the ride!!! I’m currently using the Bounce Style, Bounce Back pre-poo bond builder, leave in conditioner and Wave Activator. I swear by the last 2. I don’t use the first one every wash day. What products have you found that work for “our hair type”?

A stylist thinned my layered hair out and point cut the ends, it was awful, fuzzy and sticking out all over the place. I went back a week later and got him to cut it shorter with blunt cut layers which helped but he said he was always taught to thin out curly hair. And he describes himself as a curly hair stylist.
@dogloverlmh91977 ай бұрын
Every stylist tried to thin my hair too. I always refused. I will take bulk over it looking like a rats nest! Sometimes we actually need the length to complete the curl pattern!

Oh my days! I went to a new hair stylist 6 weeks ago - she point cut my hair in the hopes that it would bring out the wave in my hair. I haven't had a good wash day since. :( Guess the next time I go (once it's grown enough - its between my shoulder and chin atm) I'll ask for a blunt cut with layers!
@BW-jv6jg7 ай бұрын
Wonderful tips! I think this is my issue. Believe it or not it took me till around age 60 to realize I was a wavy/ curly girl 😅 Then I fought it for 5 more years because it wasn't consistently looking curly.. I started with a new hair stylist 3 years ago who is a wavy curly girl herself and each time she'd color and trim my hair she'd love on my curls and patiently do this routine that I paid no attention to and I'd leave with beautiful waves/curls that I could never achieve at home! Asking her how to deal with my frizz on a cruise ship😮 made me finally understand when she explained it like you just did.. when are you gonna realize you don't have frizzy hair, you have CURLY hair.. quit trying to keep it straight and your frizz will get better😂So it's been a work in progress.. you happened to be the first one I started watching in February and gave great advice, but I started also watching 3 very curly girls and the same things don't work for me and my hair has gone downhill when I started trying different products. I thought I could make my mostly wavy hair very curly. Sorry this is so long, I just got an epiphany watching this video today.. I've made all the mistakes except a short cut.

I think I’ve made all of these 😂 but I’ve learned so much from your channel! I also really misunderstood the role of water during product application. I thought water was diluting my product but it’s actually distributing it! That was a game changer for me.
@EverythingAndNothing087 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm guilty of cutting off a lot of hair thinking that it would give me more definition. It did not so lesson learned! One time when I was looking for a new hair stylist I saw one who specialized in wavy/curly hair. Her website said not to come to her until you always wore your hair wavy. I can respect that. I leave my hair on the straighter side a lot of the time so I know that I could never commit to a wavy haircut. I also hate layers so I just get a straight across haircut.

I used the 4U gel you suggested on freshly washed, conditioned, & squeezed hair. After some scrunching, I used my new diffuser and have my hair up in a clip until I have to leave. The curls don't last overnight, but it looks great the first day. Air drying was the biggest mistake.
@melanieingram88597 ай бұрын
I keep hearing how diffusing your hair is better. But for me, my hair is a lot curler when i let it air dry, and i get a good gel cast. When i hover diffuse, i hardly get a cast, and it's less curly. Lol

I just recently started embracing my waves (I have 2a - 2b on the upper layers and 2c - 3a on the under layers). This video pretty much confirmed what I have been thinking. I have always cut my own hair, and I cut it in layers. I began to notice that as my layers grew longer, they gained more waves/curls. Your tip about hair cuts confirmed this. Thank you!
@laureng60837 ай бұрын
My hair is a 2a wave pattern. Some might be 2b.. lol. It’s not curly , it’s wavy. My stylist didn’t even know because she washes, brushes and dries it straight. Type 2a have straight pieces and can be dried straight very easily. I just tend to think my hair, being on the fine side, looks far fuller when worn with wave. I may have one or two ringlets in my head , but I will never acheive Shirley temple and that is ok. When I walk in my salon with waves , my stylist comments how she loves it and I told her it’s 90.% natural. We all have to find what works for us and while I prefer minimal heat, I do use a little and that is ok. A diffuser can make my waves looks wonky and again I have 2 a. I can hover and that is ok. I basically get out of the shower , throw in some leave in , then salt spray ( either r and co or earth harbor .. or wave spray by curl smith ) then scrunch with my t shirt or micro fiber towel, then I put it In the towel for about 5 minutes. I then let it air dry while I do house stuff or work. ( I do work at home ). Then I curl the roots and maybe a few pieces that are straight or wonky and it takes minutes. That’s the best I use. I may do like 5 or so pieces per side. I use a heat protectant as well. I get tons of compliments as this way makes it look like I have the fun varying patterns like Carrie Bradshaw. It’s a mix because most is wave then I add some curl and it gives it great lift and texture , and very little heat. No heat is great but my hair is also lacking the volume alone and when I add just a tiny bit, my hair actually looks thick and full. Takes very little. We all need to find our balance and what works. Having zero heat can work for some , but it’s ok to get a little help also. I live in a desert , so when I go to the beach , my waves are good enough to not use an iron as well. Sorry so long winded here. lol.

Pantene has a wavy curl cream, I switched to that for summer (it doesn’t say the heat protection temp) since I’d be crazy to blow dry when it’s 25°C 😂 I have POTS and other heat sensitivity I recommend ManesByMel, she explains air drying really well and the most important thing is: take off the plop and DONT TOUCH IT AGAIN Which, yes, works for me 😊 I use your average hair gel with “strong invisible hold” Because girl, curl cream has NO hold 😂 I also recommend strong hold foam, even if it doesn’t say “for curls”, although I do love the got2b mousse for curls

I am an exception to the air drying rule. My hair does so much better with air drying. I also refresh in the worst way possible. I spray with water to about 50% wet and add a few spritzes of spray gel. I usually have better 2nd day hair than first. However, I usually wash every 2nd day but I still have quite a bit of frizz but not nearly as much as when I don’t “style” it.

Great video! I’ve definitely done most of these. The using curl creams/leave ins was a big one for me. I did the CGM thing maybe 10+ years ago (and then stopped due to having very short hair) and am just now getting back into it. That was definitely the recommendation at the time. You had to have some sort of cream product underneath to avoid the crunch. I definitely did the cowash and deep condition every week. And henna (lovely stuff, but it can loosen up your curl pattern/make it “too healthy”). I currently have a chin length bob, so I’m definitely feeling the last one.

My scalp has been itching for the whole time until I started using 4you by Tia moisturizing shampoo and garnier pure clean shampoo which seems to have some oils in it also Shea moisture daily hydrating conditioner . My hair curls better and actually stays curled past the first day. My scalp doesn’t itch, I don’t have an oily scalp. I’ve tried curl smith Jessie curls, verb ghost shampoo kinky curly ogx zotos, Giovanni, mop top (love the curl enhancer gel and leave in conditioner). A lot of product lines Were not possible for me because of the heavy perfume fragrance. I can handle mild real scents like orange peppermint coconut not musk sandalwood or straight perfume. You just have to look at videos for your hair type and think about your own hair and how products are working for you. It is very much trial and error. Thanks for the videos and a place to start.
