1. Cleanse twice 2. Distribute conditioner to all strands with brush 3. Take the time to squish to condition 4. Use enough gel, especially on soaking wet hair 5. Microplop instead of plopping for curl definition and scalp health 6. Quit pixie diffusing and hover diffuse first to set cast 7. Don’t scrunch out the crunch until hair is 100% dry, keep I cast overnight after fully drying, if possible 8. Scrunch out the crunch with 3 drops of oil that’s suited to your hair type to seal hair 9. Protect your curls while you sleep 10. Get a trim

What’s hair plopping and micro plop?

Don’t laugh, but I’ve taken hover diffusing to a new lazy level. I call it Child’s Pose diffusing. 1. I put my Perfect Haircare towel on the ground. 2. I invert my head as if I am going to plop and lower my head gently to the towel (looks like I’m about to plop but wait!). 3. I place my hair dryer w diffuser on the ground (high heat/high speed) and aim it at my hair wo touching my hair. 4. Move hair dryer around every so often to hit different spots while I just kneel and lay there :). Adjust as necessary. Once I have a nice crunch achieved, I can stand up and pixie or hover as needed. No more tired arms. Curl clumps stay intact. Boom!

Ha! That's the best! How dry do you get your hair? 80%? 90%
@jseltsam5791
@jseltsam5791 11 ай бұрын
Probably -65% in child’s pose then another 15-20% upright hover diffusing. The last 15-20% I let air dry (and it takes forever - my hair is like a sponge and thicker curl clumps = longer dry time). Good luck!

I want to emphasize one of the things you said because it's been so important for me.. You mentioned that you stopped doing squish to condish and that's when you realized what a difference it makes. I've found that in SO many different things, including hair, skincare, eating habits, and more: Sometimes I don't know how much good something has done for me until I STOP doing it. Sometimes it's an intentional stop, sometimes it's accidental, like when I run out of a product or forget something. I know from experience that if I forget a leave-in conditioner, I'm guaranteed to have a bad hair day. It's not necessary for everyone, but it's very necessary for me.

I am so happy that I found your channel. My hair has gotten wavier as I have gotten older and when it first started happening I thought it was damage. One day I went to a new hairstylist and she told me it wasn't damage, it was frizz. I started doing everything I could to stamp it out at all cost. When I finally decided to embrace my waves, I began watching all these KZbin videos for curly hair. It never turned out well and I just got super discouraged. Since I found your channel, I have had some of the best wash days ever and have been able to love my hair again. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and journey with me. It means so much.

Hi Courtney! Just found your channel… 65 years old have hated my hair my whole life and always blow dry straight. Recently had a spa day with my coworkers and went ‘au naturale’. They all loved it and I was mortified. My husband also told me that night he prefers my hair curly. Sigh. Only because I found your channel am I willing to try to embrace my curly hair, maybe just starting on the weekends. Will watch your videos and am encouraged by them. Thank you for all that you do… God bless you!

I started using a pin tail comb to lift my roots with the metal tail and hover diffuse in sections as I do this to give me more volume without touching my hair with my hands. I haven't seen anyone recommend this as an idea (or so that I noticed) and it works well for me! I didn't really want to invest in root clips for this seeing it is just more things to take up space in my bathroom.

Courtney, I’m so glad your channel exists. You’ve taught me everything I know about wavy/curly hair. I found you in the fall of 2020 after my co-worker told me I had wavy hair and I didn’t believe her, until I really looked at it in the mirror at home after a shower and didn’t brush it. 30 something years of not knowing I had wavy hair, and with your product and styling suggestions I have even ringlets that come out. Thank you for your work! You make things so clear and I love the science-y things too.

I'm new to this wavy/curly hair care routine stuff. Thank you so much for all the info! Looking forward to learning, changing everything I do with my hair and hopefully-soon loving it again! After having kids and my hair going from super straight blonde to brown & increasingly wavy, I've been frustrated with frizz and it doing whatever the heck it wanted to, regardless of my many different kinds of attempts at curling, scrunching or straightening it! I've been on an all-natural bend from no-poo/low-poo to now trying out store-bought products again (still strict on them being free of any harmful ingredients) bc I'm desperate for nice hair!! It seems you have a lot of answers for my questions! Thank you!

Re: double shampooing- I use a teeny bit of suave clarifying shampoo for my first wash. That way the products get washed out a bit and they also protect my hair from drying. Conditioning- I basically don't use conditioner and just use a leave in on my ends. I get weighed down easy, and my hair is no longer EVER dry after I stopped dry brushing.

Wow I’ve never been first comment! Thank you so much Courtney 🎉 I had a hard time finding someone with hair like mine when I started looking for wavy curly resources. Something I found interesting about my hair (not thy anyone asked lol) is that I had shaved the underside of my head, about to the tops of my ears. The hair that has grown back (now it’s all back to shoulder length) is soooooo curly and lovely. I guess because that new hair has never been dyed, curled, or straightened. The top part I’m still struggling with. It’s like I have two different hair types now yikes! Sorry for the ramble but just found it interesting! ❤

My hair has gone from absolutely straight to now having curls as I've gotten older. Unfortunately I have fine hair but it's thick so if I don't use product the curls disappear by the time my hair dries. I use a clean beauty natural shampoo and conditioner. I've always put conditioner through all my hair but especially with this conditioner I make sure it's on my scalp. I also use oil on my scalp the night before wash day to help with my dry scalp. I don't use product every day so I usually only have to wash my hair once or twice a week. I'm gonna have to try some of these other hacks though.

OK I went ahead and subscribed. It’s my granddaughter she’s 12 her hair about 4 inches above her tailbone, wavy hair can curl if you put hair in your finger and twirl. I think she will enjoy listening to you and learn more about her type of hair. She finally wants to get a haircut shoulder length & doing long layers and maybe curtain bangs, she has a high forehead she’s always puts her hands covering it up. She doesn’t want bangs and I think I can get away with doing this & feathering. She has attempted to cut her own hair so I will be doing a little repair as well. I took her to the salon, and the lady just Chopped her hair ? I am good with cutting hair plus I’ve been watching videos for review. Didn’t have KZbin back in the day, so yes, I’m encouraging her to watch your videos.✌🏻❤️🙏🏻

I'm currently a cosmetology student, and one thing I've learned about the main cause of an oily scalp is the overproduction of sebum (aka oil). The reason this happens is because your scalp is actually very dry, and your body is trying to compensate, but it actually overcompensates. If you apply conditioner from scalp to ends, your scalp won't overproduce sebum, and you'll find that your roots don't get greasy as quickly. It's amazing how so many people (including myself) believe the myth that if you have an oily/greasy scalp, you should only apply condition from miss to ends. I would get a greasy scalp literally a day or 2 after washing my hair, so I would wash my hair almost every day. Once I started conditioning from roots to ends, my hair would look great for days! I can go 4-5 days now before my scalp starts to look greasy.

Thanks for your Videos Courtney, they have helped me immensely on my relatively new curly hair journey. Question, what is your current haircut? It looks one length? Because my hair is 2a, 2b and very fine, one length and a touch longer than yours, when its one length it makes it look much thicker.

The shampoo may be too harsh. Sounds okay b/c the conditioner takes care of the issue, but if you're worried, id suggest switching to a hydrating shampoo like Loreal's Everpure/Evercare line, or the SheaMoisture brand shampoo (their coconut one is nice). These lines have less drying ingredients than normal hair shampoos, and will help seal in moisture after time, even though it's shampoo :^) yes they are more pricey than their other drugstore counter-rivals, but they ARE worth it, trust me. I switched down to Aussie after inflation and my straight medium thick hair is waaay drier pre-conditioner 😢😂 The Loreal Everpure/Evercare line is the only one i KNOW helps repair dryness shampoo-wise 100 percent. The most reliable one is the red -capped "moisure" duo of shampoo&conditioner; second the gold-capped EverCreme "deep nourish" duo. The Orange capped "frizz defy" works too. Last but not least the Blue "repair and defend" one (ive only used that one once, but it still does the trick). Red one is suuuuper hydrating though :) ^they are the ones in bottles, they look different than the "normal" product Loreal line. They say "Ever" on them; the second word changes at times but is EverPure or EverCare most i think :) they are sulfate free, which helps with healing dryness by sealing in moisture.

Based on another video… add a lot more water to soak your hair before adding the gel? I was having this problem and keeping the hair dripping wet, adding gel, scrunching and then wet plopping for a few minutes (keep dripping wet and plop in a shower cap) made a huge difference. Then the micro plopping and diffusing as she suggests.

#7 - it's been 24 hours since my wash and microplop and diffuse to 90%. I still have damp areas. 😢 I'm afraid of heat damage from spending an extra half hour to totally dry my hair...

I'm so glad I watched this! I've been hover diffusing some but was mostly pixie diffusing and couldn't get a cast. I'll try hover diffusing. Do you suggest pixie diffusing to break up the cast some? I've been using Eva NYC Mane Magic Primer to scrunch out the cast but found out it has silicones. Should I stop using this?

I have been following your channel and LOVE your help!! Thank you for your glorious wavy hair advice!! I am SUPER confused about my hair. I'm in transition! My roots dry super fast but it takes over 30 mins to dry rest of hair strands. I'm a mama and Master's student.... nobody got time for that! Then my hair color is usually dark red naturally but it looks brown sometimes with curly hair method. Help, please!! 💜

I tried pineappling for soooo long, and I always get a massive dent in my hair 😢 I've tried looser ponytails with a bobble and scrunchie, but I still get a dent, and my curls get stretched out. Any advice?

I have a similar issue with pineappleing my hair, the sides stretch out, there is more volume but I have to praying hands over it to bring back the waves and that takes out the volume 😕so now I just sleep on the silk pillowcase. In a few weeks it will change and do something else 😅

Yes, pinapple only works for very long hair, down to the waist or longer, and for those with very loose waves and almost straight hair. Curly hair will get ugly dents no matter what material you use...

Hi! I’m joining all the comments about your channel changing my wavy hair journey ❤️ I’d like to ask - doesn’t pixie diffusing give tighter curls to you than hover diffusing? I like to start and form my cast with pixie diffusing specifically because of that. Then I can hover diffuse a little

My Dad notices when I’m in a mood. He always notices and asks “What’s got your hair in a knot?” Right from when I was a little girl. He has curly hair too but has always smoothed it down. He has had a boar bristle paddle brush all his life. They last for decades. If you want smooth hair, recommend. I do a double wash. My first wash is with SVR Topialyse shower gel with oil and niacinamide. It’s a great all over face and bodywash and it’s wonderful for a sensitive or itchy scalp.

Hey Courtney. Great video! I’ve often wondered about sleeping in the “ crunch”. Should my crunchy hair still be put in a pineapple? Maybe one of those silk caps would be better. My hair is currently a couple inches longer than yours & all one length. Sort of a long bob shorter in back than the front. ❤

Mine is the same length as yours, and the pineapple don't work on short hair like ours. The hair in the back will all be streched out, and the rest curly. Horrible. You'll just end up having to wett the hair again in the morning and start all over... Long hair like down to the waist could benefit from the pinapple though. But the easiest thing to do is just to lift the hair on the crown area upwards when you lie down so it won't get smushed in the back. Otherwise it might end up like a birds nest in the back of your head... but I always have to wet parts or all of my hair every morning anyway with a spray bottle because my hair loves water and makes the prettiest ringlets then. Even more in moist or rainy/snowy weather (my country in Scandinavia has a lot of rain and snow). And the cute frizz it gets only shows that it's real. Straight hair that is curled with hot tools don't frizz like that. All the little hairs around my face curl up and the rest falls in beautiful ringlets like in a fairytale. I'm trying to grow it out but it takes time. Those rainy days are the days people stare the most, especially guys, some women give the stink eye out of jealousy and some try to see if it's fake or real. Some people even come up to me and say I'll ruin my beautiful curls if I stay out in the rain like that when I wait for the bus or something, they think it's fake... I have to explain it everytime... most people here seem to believe there's only two types of hair, straight or affro... But it's hard work having curly hair...

Question: If i sleep with a pineapple ponytail my scalp hurts Like crazy! I can't stand that. What should i do? What is the reason for this pain? Does anyone know? If i am wearing the ponytail so loose it wont Hurt me, i loose it 20 Minuten later in bed 😅 and half of my Hair isnt even in it😅 I am sorry for my Bad english.

I can't speak to why your scalp hurts, you may just be very sensitive. As for options, have you tried using a hair clip instead of a ponytail. I use a clip to kind of just hold my hair in the pineapple style on top of my head and then put it in a satin bonnet.
