Cgc focus is the grade itself. That is why that is more visually attractive. Cbcs CEO said they wanted the focus to be on the book, not the grade. I can definitely respect that approach. Quicker return times and free grade notes is more attractive to me than a label.

First off, you articulate very well. You sound like a professional public speaker!!! The one GREAT thing about CBCS that is not discussed enough is: CBCS Grade Screening allows you to have whatever grade minimum you want, unlike CGC. You can literally submit 10 books, and request 10 different grades for each, to me, this is a GAME CHANGER. Dunno if everyone knows this?? Plus, you touched on it a little, any returned book from CBCS is only $4. WOW! THE KINGS ARE JUST GOUCHING OUR WALLETS FOR EVERY LITTLE THING. You Da Man, thanks for what you do.

Great video, I have over 500 CGC books, but have stopped using them in 2019 and haven't used CBCS yet. I have noticed besides the newton rings, CGC cases lately have dirt or debris inside the inner well and that is a problem nobody is talking about, but I also never understood why CGC charges grader notes and you will think there is a detailed description, but sometimes it just says "minor spine ticks" and they charge $5 for that haha

@@MintHunterComics Agree 100% that they have great customer service, but I also wonder if their cases will damage the books over time, like in 2016 when they decided to not include the inner well and it started warping the books, but for selling purposes, their label does command top dollar.

I'm a novice to the slabbing scene but I have to imagine the recent improvements CBCS has undergone will go a long way to closing that gap between what CGC graded comics re-sell for. If anything, now is the time to roll the dice on some of your key issues and give CBCS a chance. I'll admit there's something authoritative about the big black grade on a CGC slab, not to mention the holo label. But the 5 perks mentioned in this video cannot be overlooked. I haven't sent any of my books in for grading (to any grading service), and I'm seriously torn as to which one I would choose because I do believe the gap between CGC and CBCS will be almost negligible at a certain point in the next 2-5 years.

Lot's of great points and solid video! For me personally, it's not that I'm not a fan of CBCS, and I've used them for there verification services on a couple Kirby sigs, but definitely still only submitting to CGC. It's really as you said, just comes down to resale value. As long as resale stays stronger with CGC, I don't see any reason to get my books graded with CBCS. And the difference can be considerably more significant as I'm sure you know on bigger keys. I remember seeing a Hulk 1 CGC 8.5 sell at auction several years ago for a little over $100K as I recall, and a CBCS 8.5 shortly after sold somewhere in the $70K-$80K range. That was a massive difference! So on small books not soo big of a deal, but the difference is simply still too large with bigger keys. As far as as aesthetics go, I have to agree with the 76% of people who said CGC slabs look better.

Having used all the grading services, I will say the experience with CGC seems more polished, however this recent price hike had me cancel the upcoming CGC membership renewal and I purchased a CBCS membership instead. I really like that I can pre screen for grades and the books don't all have to be the same grade, and that I can pre-screen for pressing. This can save money over the long run and ensure I get the grades I want. I remember back when I did my comparison video (just before the new cases dropped) I too had delays getting responses from CBCS. I will say, I have not had the same issue with regards to submissions, or their signature events, just the general inquiries. Finally, I find it interesting so many people prefer the CGC case, it must be the label and that white sticker, though I cant understand why CGC doesnt get called out for that white sticker which is not always applied straight. Great video.

We need more KZbinrs to make videos like this. Not because I necessarily like CBCS over CGC but because CGC needs some competition if we ever expect them to improve their service. Almost every KZbinr offers CGC endless free promotion despite all the problems they've had over the years. I also think CBCS needs to offer something different from CGC if they ever want to gain marketshare. More detailed grading notes, 4 category grading (like BGS does for cards), better labels and better communication/tracking of orders would be a good start.

I will never submit a book to CGC again after they ripped my ASM #1, and detached the cover on my TOS #39 (see my videos). I hope CBCS can keep growing and I hope the community get's their heads out of the sand and see CGC for what they are. I agree with most of what you say, except that CGC is consistent. I own 9.8's with color breaking spine creases and have seen tons of others wildly mis-graded. I think they must spend less than a minute grading current books, with no second set of eyes on it, so the grading is all over the place... which I assume will get worse with the recent hiring frenzy to catch up on back orders.

It's not just the inconsistency and the manhandling, either. The last one is the clincher: What appears to be an entire sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" paper folded into quarters inside a magazine. After this display of glaring incompetence, I am done with CGC.

Great vid. Question. Did CBCS change it's signature verification process....? I thought the yellow label was for witnessed signatures, similar to CGC, while the red label was used for verified signatures that were not witnessed....? I have four books that I paid to have graded and signature verified. They all came back with a red labels......

They got rid of the red label - it's all yellow now!

Reason #6 - CBCS has a Canadian outlet in Oakville, Ontario you can submit your books to. Canadian customers pay in Cdn dollars and will not have to worry about paying duty fees on their own books upon return because CBCS has a partnership with a distribution company called "Universal Distribution" which somehow "avoids" duty fees. Reason #7 - CBCS has an online submission form just for their Canadian customers (English AND French) with the Cdn dollar amounts already factored in so you don't have to do any math (which is GREAT when the Cdn dollar fluctuates in value as mush as it does, the CBCS price is always locked in)

The multiple locations is a total win - ridiculous that CGC only has Sarasota FL

Unless something has changed, CBCS also has A LOT more flexibility with pre-screening. You don’t need to have every book on a submission to be pre-screened for the exact same grade. For me, any book that I intend to keep goes to CBCS... and any autographed books go to CBCS. In the case of high dollar books ($400+), they go to CGC if I intend to sell them. Any other book depends on what company I am currently prepping a shipment for, as I will just “toss them in” to fill out an order (I don’t like to send less than 20 books at a time).

Cgc has flexibility with that too! You can set certain books to a 9.2 pre screen and others a 9.8
@Eyrrll3 жыл бұрын
@@MintHunterComics that’s good to hear. For a long time at CGC, you could only pre-screen for a single grade on a single submission. So if you sent 20 Modern comics on one sheet, you could not choose 9.2 on one book and 9.8 on another... they all had to be the same (all 9.2 or all 9.8). If you wanted to do otherwise, you had to do two submissions.

I'm personally not into grading my keys and grail books. But if I ever did send a book in for grading. I'd prefer CBCS from hearing other collectors experiences. Good post to share.

I need a CCGC (Canadian CGC :). So many X-Men to get graded. BTW - thanks for your recent video alerting me to the fact the New Mutant Graphic novel was jumping in price. I always wondered why it was so undervalued.

Really great video. In the end CBCS is the option for unwitnessed signed comics.

I’ve been using PGX lately for my pc. Their new slabs and labels are good. They no longer feel hollow and the label has improved. I just can’t get over the CBCS label. It’s an eyesore. I’m impatient and can’t wait 2 months to get books back using cgc.

The worst part about CBCS is the font they use for me - I know some people love it but I think it's bland. I have NO experience with PGX or EGS to date!
@danim28973 жыл бұрын
@@MintHunterComics I’ve had nothing but good experience with pgx. EGS uses comic skin slabs with hinges that you can buy yourself on eBay or Amazon,. 👎🏼
