It's their selection of left handed guitars that drew me in, most other companies have a couple of options so not a lot of choice, I decide I want a 7 string with Fishmans, Schecter is the only company with one
@davesmith6794
@davesmith6794 4 жыл бұрын
I'll make this really simple. I'm 52 and have played them ALL. I have never had a "brand", always trying out new sounds and having, say, a Les Paul for this and a Tele for that. Well, I can finally say that I'm a Schecter guy. Everything you said in this video and more. It's too bad you only tacked it on the end in text instead of discussing it, but Schecter's in-house pickups are amazing. I haven't replaced any of them. I've yet to play the Sustainiac pups yet, but I intend to on my next guitar. These guitars are well-made all around and feel wonderful to play. For those starting out, let's just say that a good general rule of thumb is this: Schecters are a grade up per price range in quality. Meaning, a 3-400 dollar Schecter is comparable to many other 5-700 dollar guitars, 5-600 dollar Schecters are like 800 dollar competitors and so forth. Of course not in every case, but as I said, it's a good rule of thumb. I'm surprised it took me this long to become loyal to one company, but with all those years behind me I learned a lot. Schecter for me, all the way.

One of my favorite things about Schecter is their willingness to change. I have a first run Avenger 7 string from the late 90s and it is nothing like the current Avengers. The early ones were super blocky on the sides with baseball bat necks...the new ones are sleek, sexy, curvy with totally different neck profiles. Very few companies are willing to change an original design that much in such a short amount of time.

People who say they aren't worth the price aren't well versed with them. Up until a few years ago I never thought they were on par with the Ibanez, the Jackson, etc., until I played a few of them and not only did they play well, but they were built Rock Solid, and they sounded great and were extremely comfortable and were finished beautifully. I have been building instruments for many years and I liked the JL - 7 Jeff Loomis signature model with his signature Seymour Duncan pickups so much that I had to keep it. I play it all the time. When compared to other instruments in the same price ranges the build components, the specs, the raw materials used for the body in the neck fretboards fretz, you said it exactly right, they compete with everyone in that price range whether it's 700 to $800 or 1000 to $1,200 or anything.

100% agree, a friend of mine was looking at some Ibanez guitars and I showed him some Schecter models - dollar to value ratio they’re hard to beat. My cheap Omen Extreme 6 has perfectly rounded fret edges, the neck doesn’t have a hard edge either. I also like the fact their import guitars are inspected with final setup in the USA prior to getting boxed. My PRS SE Custom arrived with the tail of the trem bridge rocked all the way back on the body of the guitar and all 6 set screws were at noticeably different heights. So once GC opens their stores (otherwise I pay for shipping to send it back to GC) it’s getting exchanged in for a Schecter Solo II Custom... and maybe I’m just building a Schecter collection lol

One thing to mention about Schecter´s in house pickups: Schecter was originally a replacement parts and aftermarket pickup shop in the 70s,similar to S.Duncan or Dimarzio. Even though their more expensive guitars are made in S.Korea,they have Made in USA custom shop pickups,that are on the same quality level as the known aftermarket brands.They´re actually handwound and not some massproduced,"designed by" cheapo pickups. For example the "Pasadena" humbucker set,was designed for Zacky from A7X who wanted a "hotrodded PAF" style humbucker set,similar to a S.Duncan JB/Jazz or JB/59 combo,which he was using prior.

I started playing guitar in the mid 90s as a teenager and bounced from budget guitar brand to budget guitar brand. Around 2002 I saw a brand I had never seen before at one of my local shops - Schecter. The first one I saw was a brand new quilted golden maple topped SuperStrat with a Steve Vai "Jem" styled fretboard inlay. This thing blew my mind in how beautiful it looked. When I asked to take it down and try it out, the shop owner said "Go for it dude...buckle up." Man, what a fiddle. It ended up being a C1 Classic - the one in my thumbnail to the left. I've gotten more compliments over the years from the big brand guys on how it looks and sounds. When I let them grab it, they don't want to give it up. I turned my best friend - a traditional Les Paul guy - into a dedicated Schecter player with that guitar. He now owns several Jeff Loomis models and several Hellraisers. I have also owned the Terry Corso signature (Alien Ant Farm guitarist - sick little sleeper guitar right there!), several mid tiered 7 strings and now I have a red C1 Plus to go along with the Classic. Sorry for the novel, Agufish, but these guitars are just something else. Both of mine come from the early 2000s and I'm never letting them go.

Don't forget, schecter made all of Princes' custom guitars as well! I ordered a C6 FR-S Apocalypse in July and when it showed up It could have gone straight from box to stage. Perfectly in tune and set up beautifully, never had a guitar show up in this condition. When it comes to price, you truly get what/more than what you pay for, nothing will match their everyday quality.

Fernandes Guitars did the Sustainer pickup WAY before Schecter. Schecter killed the US market for Fernandes. Which is why Burny doesn't distribute to the US. If you can find a Fernandes sustainer pickup.....grab it. They are fun and have a feedback setting.

Best thing about Schecter...you can get them on Reverb for about 40% lower than actual retail prices. Just looked at the Omen model, $400 new, $200 used. Hellraiser, $950 new, $450 used. Banshee, $549 new, $420 used. That's a few today (when I wrote this). You can buy the used ones with Affirm payments. Moral of the story, if you buy a Schecter DO NOT buy it brand new unless you are looking for a good return policy.

I have 2 Schecter guitars. An Omen 6 that I got in 2010, and a C-8 Deluxe I bought in 2018. They're both like low end guitars, like $400-600 Canadian, and they're just good. I played the crap out of the Omen 6 and gigged with it in a couple bands, it wasn't until a year or two ago that the electronics started to crap out a little bit. No sharp frets, they stay in tune, they sound pretty good, no issues with the finish or anything. And the same with the 8 string. Zero issues out of the box. And I'm one of the lefties you brought up. Unfortunately both of my guitars are black with rosewood fingerboards (bleh), but they're great in every other way so you can look past their visuals. They're just really solid guitars and Schecter deserves a top spot in the industry.

Specs wise, you need to spend around 800-900€ for a Schecter with locking tuners. That alone makes me want to stay away from the brand. I know they are good, but once I start factoring in the price of guitar, locking tuners, pickups I like, it kinda gets to the point where you can just get a higher tier guitar for the same money. Something like Hunter has addressed in LTD EC-256 review.

I have a Schecter C-1 Platinum w/ a set of EMG 81/85 pickups. The build quality is top notch and the neck profile is fast and comfortable. At Guitar Center the C-1 lists for $599. You can find a handful of them on Reverb and Guitar Center Used for just under $400, which makes them the least expensive guitar packed with a set of EMG 81/85 pickups. The pickup set alone retails for $199. By every measure, this guitar is a terrific bargain. Grab one. You'll like it.
