##ART TIP## Hi young artist here lol, and I'd like to share that using textures like screen tones, etc. the same way with the last 2 steps(?) as things like shadows and sometimes the flat colors can be a great thing as well! Using screen tone for shadows can help achieve a manga/comic vibe with a piece as long as it's executed well! I've seen people use textures like stars for galaxy representive paintings as blocks of colors or shadows help a ton to show what the piece is trying to present! I do a little thing where I do my shadows in one flat color, usually a dark brown-red (dried blood is the closest description) then I'd clip things like a lighter tone of the color or something with an entirely different hue! I'd then choose any blending setting that suits it, mess with opacity and other settings and voila! It makes a ton of stuff pop which is what I aim for alot! That's all for now lol, hope it helps! From your friendly stranger on KZbin, Baroo

Thank you so much for this video! I have a bad habit of always sticking to my comfort zone since I’ve always just been either too lazy or scared to experiment. I’ve always found texture to be fascinating in digital art and always wanted to find a way to implement in my art style. I’ll be sure to refer back to this video from time to time to help me find my stride in using more textures!

When I am shading, I smoothen out a little bit the edges so the texture of the brush kinda disappears cause I thought the shadow won't look natural. After watching this video, I realized that I think it will be better if I didn't smoothen it out if since originally I want a textured illustration hehe. Thanks a lot for this video! Certainly learned a lot from this! This will help me improve my artworks!

U can kind of do the noise technique in traditional drawing. I find that it can look quite similar to what you showcased in the video, when you draw with a colored pencil and gently go over some spots with a wiper. I must say i hate wipers and i usually dont use them but sometimes i like to go back into my colored pencil drawing with them bcs they Make the colour slightly lighter and the vibrancy changes. You should try it

This is so helpful! I just started out with art and don't have much knowldge of the programs. I've been enjoying the look of flats, or just very basic cell shading, but it often just looks way more clean than I want. I'vew been experimenting with different brushes, but still just felt like i wasn't getting enough texture and visual interest even tho the flat colours were what I wanted. Gonna try a bunch of these, the last one seems especially fun to me!

Sorry if this has been answered before: Im curious about when people draw lineless art, do you like seperate all each part of the drawings or draw all of them in one layer???
@jjju3
@jjju3 4 жыл бұрын
For me it depends on the piece If it's just one figure i prefer to draw the parts (head/neck/arms/torso/hair)etc) seperately but if im drawing like 6 people im just like fuck it and keep each person as one color block before i color, (though I always ad on some linework after the color blocking to make sure you can read it. It might be different if you don't have that luxury in style lmao)
@isaiah9501
@isaiah9501 4 жыл бұрын
It really depends in the simplicity and art styles. I've seen multiple artists on Instagram draw them in one layer. But for me a put them in different layers so its more easy to liquify and transform them. Im really not sure with some of my techniques since im like 12 years old and draws on a phone with a finger. I use procreate pocket version on Iphone which has less features and limited layers so i have to work around the system and draw them in different picture or canvas or something
@j.h170
@j.h170 4 жыл бұрын
I don't usually do line less, but it is better to separate the pieces so you know what goes in what order. It does get a bit confusing sometimes, so make sure to name layers and lock them when you're done with them.
@requiemforpsyche
@requiemforpsyche 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on how the artist personally does it, i usually just do a sketch, then do a cleaner sketch, lower the opacity and start colouring in betwen the two sketch layers, if i think that im going a bit off on the colouring i hide the clean sketch layer and clean it up a bit. And i do occasionally like to separate all the parts
@StormzAway
@StormzAway 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on your own needs, though. If I'm in a Medibang Paint (or any fancy drawing app with unlimited layers) I foldered lineart and colour blocks separately, and the colours are kept in its own layer. The pros is you just clip shading layers to the colour blocks separately without worrying if you messed up, and your lineart is safe in a separate folder. If I'm in MS Paint (and you know it has no layers) I just really have to remember which goes first (like layering in traditional art), and I usually forget.

Haha, I used to be like that. I think it has to do with the way you execute the lineart and colors. If you like your sketch better, you probably prefer textured lineart. Meppity made a whole video about it (which I'm pretty sure you watched) the techniques are great. Also, try doing some color studies, and do mess around and experiment with the options your drawing app offers. Just go wild with it, hope it helps!

Being able to scroll through the layer modes in procreate is AMAZINGGGG. Having to click each one and seeing what they look like and pain-stakingly comparing them is such a hassle. When I'm able to save up money, I'm getting an iPad ASAP. I have a huge $600 tablet, but it's just too large to do anything with, and doesn't function unless it's hooked up to my computer, making it even less accessible. I still draw on it, of course, but it's always a hassle getting it set up. I thought bigger was better... and I was wrong. A tablet the size of a piece of paper is all you really need. Don't make the same mistake as me kids 😢
