5 ways to color wafer paper black without edible printer for cake decorating | Florea Cakes

Can you Colour wafer paper?
Coloring wafer paper can sometimes be challenging if you want rich saturated black color and do not have an edible printer or assess to pre-colored wafer paper.
In this video, I'm going to show you 5 ways to color wafer paper black.
Oil color - Candy Color Black by Americolor
Powder color - Black Powder by PME
Airbrush color - Super Black Airmist color by Americolor
Gel color I use is Midnight black by Artisan Accents www.artisanaccents.com/color
What is wafer paper? How to make wafer paper flowers? As its name suggests, are flowers made using wafer paper (also known as rice paper) - a thin sheet of edible paper, made of a combination of potato starch, water, and vegetable oil. Most wafer papers are flavorless or have a neutral taste. Wafer paper flowers are a popular form of cake decorations among bakers and cake designers. This decorating medium is used to create elegant, exquisite flowers that look different from the regular gum paste flowers.

For fondant you can use just gel color, no need for adding glycerin

Unfortunatly, it is not the same. You would need to use glycerin to achieve the similar flexibility. (You might be mistaken glycerin for glycose syrup).

Thanks! In using the gel + glycerine method, would the wafer paper stiffen up so that flowers/foliage could be made from it? Or does it stay too soft indefinitely for that application?

Glycerin is a humectant, so it will absorb the moisture from the air. If you are in a dry climate - it will dry out eventually, but if you are in a controlled environment - it will stay soft for longer. There are some downsides to using just glycerin for making flowers, because it can cause flowers to wilt.

Yes, you absolutely can. Paint and shape at the same time while it's flexible.
