I made a cool key ring using a “filigree” like technique. I drive a jeep, so it looks like a jeep grill, with a blue suede backing!

For fitting studs, make a block of corrugated cardboard, push and if needed hammer the stud through the leather using the cardboard as a back stop. This doesn’t damage the prongs

Great video. Lots of helpful ideas. What brand of laser engraver do you use? And how do you find the laser engraver goes on very dark and also on brighter, more vibrant coloured leathers. Are you still able to see the engraving ok. PS. Love your accent!

Thank you 😊 I use a Glowforge Pro laser for my work. Lasers work best on lighter/bright coloured leather as there is more contrast with the engraved section. Though you can engrave darker colours, it is much more subtle. I have a video here that has a bit more information on my laser work: studio.kzbin.infobJJF5NBOFS4/edit

Hi Jo, I love your videos and I'm learning loads from them, especially having UK suppliers ! Can I just ask why you stain, polish and crease each individual piece before assembly then do it all again once the item is finished? I like to try and streamline everything I do so I just wondered if it would be quicker and leave the same finish if I left all of the edge staining, polishing and creasing until the end. Thanks again, Leigh

Heya Leigh, that is the way I was taught how to do things. It makes sense for parts like turns where you will find it awkward to finish the edges afterwards or if you were using glue as so can soak in and create a waterproof barrier that the dye can't penetrate. With leathercraft there isn't really a right or wrong way to do things if the end result is to the standard that you want, so try a few ways to find which way works best for you and your workflow and go from there 👍
