Hey coach I ran into this situation a long time ago when we didn’t have these many code or equipment options. Snaking new wire and #12 wire all over the place uhh. Great explanation as always 👍

Many Older Homes had those Old two prong outlets and Old style Knob and Tube wires.

Good video. There are so many opinions on the use of GFCI outlets to fix missing ground. Some say one downstream, some say all outlets must be GFCI. Who to believe?
@Sparky-ww5re2 жыл бұрын
Helpful video. While adding GFCI protection does not protect sensitive electronics, like your 50 inch smart TV plugged into a surge protector, it does provide personal shock protection, so it's important to note that while Code does allow this practice, it's not quite as good as having a true ground.

If you install an individual GFCI, it will still light up as an open ground, correct?
@vince68292 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Question: the second way to address a missing ground (rewire the location), involves running a new stretch of romex (e.g. 14-2), correct? Could it simply involve running a single green ground wire from the breaker box to the receptacle?

If I installed exterior outlets (because I don’t have any, built in the 50’s) could I drill a small hole through my old metal boxes and block house to run a short ground wire from the inside to the new outdoor outlets?

I have a garage with only one outlet in it. The outlet is not grounded. Would it be safe to go to earth with a physical ground outside via grounding spike?

I would contact a qualified licensed electrician!!

You buy a pack of pigtails. And then you connect the ground wire to the receptacle, and you connect the other end with a twist nut to the neutral. Can you sell the house and smile!

See above, that is illegal and unethical. DO NOT DO THIS.
