I'm always learning something new with these insightful GMB videos. It's refreshing to see how you break down the more complex skills and highlight the key points of focus to make these movements more approachable. Only thing missing from this video was Ryan's dog :) Keep up the great work.

Great tips here. Definitely love the insight you guys provide here. This is motivating me to get back into the elements program and give more focus to the bent arm bear / A-frame.
@gmbfit4 жыл бұрын
That’s great! It’s really easy to underestimate the bear walk variations... i mean, they’re so easy right? Just crawling! Hahaha, but if you do them the right way, you’re building lots of strength in ranges and positions that are hard to address otherwise.

Ryan you always say elbows in, and I believe you, and I do it, but you've never fully explained why. I'm know it's physics and mechanics, and I'd love to know the details - 'knowledge allows you to give more meaning to what you do' - somebody famous said.

We talk more about the reasons in our website articles about elbow and shoulder health and push-up technique, but the gist is that flaring the elbows puts a lot of pressure on the shoulders, and though it’ll build those manly pecs, at the same time, it tends to cause a lot of problems in the shoulders and thoracic spine and neck area.
@grIMAG33 жыл бұрын
So you don't impinge your shoulders. Flaring out your elbows during a pressing movement puts your shoulders in an impinge position. Learned it the hard way.

It's mostly just a matter of practice and building your strength
@baz_k2 жыл бұрын
Do you think some of these such as that A frame pushup in the video might actually be better than a traditional shoulder press with dumbbells if you want to build strength and size in your front deltoids?
@gmbfit2 жыл бұрын
Maybe. A big reason dumbbells and barbells, etc. tend to be useful for hypertrophy focus is that they are very easily scalable. If you're trying to isolate a muscle to make it grow, and you need specific control over the load and rep range, that's difficult to do by shifting your bodyweight. Dumbbells are great for that. But when it comes to developing useful strength in pressing movements? Well, then I think bodyweight is generally more functional (though you'll still need to add external load if you get to the point where you're already very strong and aiming for extreme strength - however, most people at this stage aren't asking Qs about it on YT ;) so I'm assuming that's not relevant to you).
