I had trouble with finger jams. The best exercise I found was push-ups with my fingers spread and the weight off of my palms, just supporting myself mainly on the first joints of my fingers and thumbs. My finger strength and flexibility has really improved.

The hotter the ball speed , the closer the “net “ , Thumbs and index fingers touching ; & precision of clutch to tip of the ball . Fingers with tighten automatically to absorb the velocity. The visual tracking of my spin in fine focus is a skill and will develop

@stevengriffin5349

If slapping then hand position is incorrect ; think either pinky or thumbs together - one or the other - repetition builds reflex. Do plenty “turn around drill”; Facing away from thrower ( even you mom or girlfriend) call out “hut or Ball “ Turn with Eyes leading ( snapping head blurs your vision ) respond as hand / eye coordination to make the catch . The hand position will become automatic .

Yeah good stuff - I would also work the low ball catch with elbows together and gather into belly ( protecting the ground ). Steve Largent (HOF Seahawks ) would use colored tape on top of ball to read trajectory of the spin ( helps when have Left & Rt handed qb) I would blend the last second catch with high pointing . Incorporate vision dynamics with catching drills ; turn with eyes minimizes blur , and “ wrong shoulder “ drill helps reset of fine focus . Learned wide focus ( down field ) pick up mid flight , transition to fine focus for trajectory & spin characteristics . Fred Biletnikoff used to use a boxers speed bag to entrain they quick hand move to the ball and arm coordination. He also made arm catch’s on certain belly Balls . Fastest way to get ball tucked , sometimes is the catch

Bruh I confuse my self, I was playing defense with my friends (no pads or gloves or anything) and I made a one handed interception, but when I play WR sometimes I choke the easiest catches, one thing is confidence too, when I’m playing WR they expect me to catch it and the pressure gets to me, but when I’m playing DB then they won’t expect me to make an interception each time, maybe a pass deflection at least, so it’s easier to catch on defense for me and I can’t fix my confidence
@Ki-td9zd
@Ki-td9zd 3 жыл бұрын
I have the same exact problem and that is why I drop so many balls, you have to just head in to the game and force yourself to be confident and tell yourself that you're going to do good.

I don't have ANY equipment and I'm too broke to get any lol, do you have any catching drills to do with just a football?? I prob struggle with hand strength bc when I catch a lot of times it either bounces off of my palm, hits my finger tips, or slips right through my hands. Like you said, the palm thing is what a lot of younger players struggle with and I'm 14
@firstdowntraining
@firstdowntraining Жыл бұрын
Yeah I would say for you, toss the ball up in the air and as the ball comes down clap your hands twice behind your back then catch- forces you to have to keep your eye on it and have late hands which is essential to catching passes.

guys im gonna be honest none of us are getting to the NFL you guys really dont know how hard it is to get offered a college, fast, strong, route running, good hands. Everyone wants to be the same position aka WR and play in the NFL which the more people that do makes it harder for everyone else.
@firstdowntraining
@firstdowntraining 3 жыл бұрын
Wont accomplish anything with that attitude. How about you at least try? Because God had a funny way of working that way, if you’re constantly going after something and doing your best chasing a goal, you A) get a better mindset about work ethic and competitive drive B) Learn a lot about adversity and what it means to compete & C) you will end up in the right situation. Be very careful with people who say things like this, not everyone will make it, but everyone can get better and push themselves to new limits which leads to success in all areas of life. Have some faith in what you’re doing. Guys who have an attitude like this will NEVER be successful not because they don’t have it, but because they don’t dare to try. Hope this can change your perspective
