Unfortunately I can’t have a pleasant alarm clock. I need something violent like the world is ending to wake me up.

Finally, morning routine advice that is practical and doable! I see all these videos where people do a million things before leaving the house and I wonder, do they sleep only 4-5 hours a night? Or are they just super energetic people in general? That is not me! Getting things ready the night before is always a lifesaver. Also, organization is a MUST for me. Having a designated spot for keys (hook near door), phone (TV cart where it charges), and wallet (basket) is essential. Doing these small things has saved my sanity more times than I can say. No more tearing the house apart looking for things at the last minute! And I am glad I am not the only one who can't listen to people talking in the morning. When I used to have roommates I would tell them all the time, "It's not that I'm mad at you. I just can't function until my brain wakes up."

TBH, I think one thing to eliminate from the morning is using the phone as an alarm. The chances of hitting snooze are too high; I’ve slept through mine many times because of it. So I got a bluetooth enabled alarm clock radio, wake up to NPR that slowly increases in volume (hearing about politics first thing is so irritating I never oversleep now, I want to turn it off quite urgently), and immediately go to the shower. I also literally cannot eat breakfast, it makes me ill to eat too early. I wanted to bring this up because all too often I hear this same aggressive drum beat about breakfast everywhere. It’s ok to not like it or want it. I usually eat a piece of fruit or something after a few hours but lunch is my big meal of the day. If breakfast doesn’t work for you (the person reading this comment), you’re fine. Brunch is better anyway :P

I like this idea of not using my phone as an alarm. I'm going to try it. Maybe that will keep me off stupid social media first thing in the morning too.

Skipping breakfast also allows for an extended fast until you eat later. I delay my first meal because I tend to get drowsy right after I eat.

I must say this is one of your best videos! Recently I’ve been watching morning routines in order to organize myself in the morning, but all I see is people doing a lot of things in small period of time like exercising, reading, journaling, meditate, eating breakfast, getting ready... all in like 2-3 hours, I have tried but it is imposible for me. I just going to try 2-3 things in the morning, specially because I am the kind of person who wake up but it takes me around 30 minutes to get out of bed. Thanks!

This is the best video on morning routine that I have ever watched! Being Asian, I prefer hot (or at least warm) food for breakfast - so I prepare millet porridge/congee using my rice cooker now. A family friend of mine taught me how to cook congee using a rice cooker (yes it involves more than just choosing the 'congee/porridge' programme on the cooker), and now in the morning I wake up knowing that my breakfast is ready. Before that I either have to prepare congee while I brush my teeth and do skincare, hoping that the congee doesn't boil over, and this is so stressful. Or I eat some random pieces of bread and feel like something is missing in my breakfast. All these little things add up to make the morning less stressful!

I highly agree with your points of being mindful of sound and visual triggers. My most peaceful yet energizing mornings have been ones where I can have quiet time to myself before going out into the world

👍 Excellent advice to pick what works for you rather than what other people recommend. I, for one, need a shower in the morning to help me go from the fog when I wake up to the daytime warrior when I get out of the shower, but I know other people who prefer the night routine. I've also found you will need to adapt your routine to your life, e.g., post-baby v. pre-baby, different job with different length commute, parents or other family & friends moving in with you, etc., how physical your job is (I went from a desk job to peer training and had to enlarge my breakfast so I didn't wilt like a Lily before lunch 😊.) I think these fit in with your overall advice to be flexible and find what works for you so this is just a reminder to be flexible across time too. Thanks for all the great work you do on these videos and for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

Really enjoyed today's video Mariana- as always! Would love to see a new video on your current note taking process and tips. I'm a homeschooled year 10 student and have been struggling to find a method that works well for me. I would also love to see a complete guide to bullet journalling for beginners- I really want to start one next year but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by all the decorative spreads all over instagram and pinterest. For me, I feel a minimalist set up would be more practical and easier to keep up with. Really need some help on getting started- best notebook to buy, supplies, basic layout, headers, e.t.c I've seen snippets of your bullet journal and it is just lovely- would like advice on how to create a similar aesthetic. I was also wondering what iPad/tablet you are using?:) Thank you Mariana, please continue the wonderful, inspiring, motivational work that you do!:) Much love!

Hi. What is a good app to download to my phone so I wont be distracted by notifications? Thanks in advance!!! xoxoxo
@nomusicnecessary6 жыл бұрын
if you happen to have an iphone, it would be a smart choice to go into settings->notifications and spend around 5 minutes customising the notifications for each application. you can decide which nes are allowed to make sounds, show on your lock screen, have banners, and even show up in your notification history. **after doing this you will find that the only notifications you get are the ones you want to notify you! in addition, the do not disturb feature is a lifesaver during productivity time. you will be able to see everything you need to be notified by when you pick up your phone, but it won't constantly go off disturbing your line of thinking every time. you can also specify people who are allowed to break through that barrier in case of emergency.

I use Cold Turkey and it's been doing wonders for me. Mariana mentioned it a while ago. If you really need your phone to study (in case you don't have a pc or something else) then don't use it, it blocks the entire phone for the time you set when you click "start".
