I was on a MISSION to find the best DIY & Natural (Hopefully) product /method to lighten my dark roots. You could try any of these methods on your whole head of hair but I focused on my roots because the rest of my hair was so light (and damaged) from being highlighted.
In this video Ill tell you and show you the results of the 5 DIY products I used to try and lighten my naturally brown hair. I was really focused on not using any products with bleach or dyes.
In this video review and tutorial I tried these 5 METHODS:
1. Lemon juice for lightening my hair
2. Baking Soda & Lemon Juice for lightening my hair
3. Chamomile Tea for lightening my hair
4. Apple Cider Vinegar for lightening my hair
5. John Frieda's Go Blonder Spray (hydrogen peroxide product similar to sun in) for lightening my hair
I did this experiment because I was so sick of my hair not growing long like it used to. I don't use heat on my hair, I eat healthy, I only wash every 3rd day and I take biotin. The only factor beside aging is the chemicals that have damaged my hair. I was on a hunt for a product that would hopefully be natural and gentler on my hair.
Watch the full video to see my results!
If you have dark blonde, light brown, or even medium brown hair you can definitely use the method that worked for me. My natural hair is a level 5/6 and my hair dressed considers me to have naturally light brown hair.
The best part about all of these products is you can probably find them in your cupboard or at a local Walgreens/Target. All of the products I used were under $10 and easy to do at home. So if you're on a budget and want to lighten your hair at home, this video will help you!

Thank you for the HONEST video! I’m turning fifty this year and if I could go back in time, I would stay FAR FAR away from sun in. I used it with a hair dryer in my college days one fall. I was astounded at how quickly and how well it worked. I loved the results…. Until I got a perm…( this was early 90’s, lol) my hair was like…. “Sorry, I’ve had it with you abusing me.” At least half my hair broke off about 3 inches from my roots. There was no hiding it… it looked like someone dumped a bowl of wilted lettuce on my head. I had to either wear my hair in a bun or try to curl it into a weird layered look. It took several years to grow it all back naturally and when it finally all did, I realized, my hair was actually quite lovely. Not one chemical in the past 30 years since! If anything, I’d say if you can, try to embrace your natural color…. Just let it breathe for awhile. You are not your hair. You’re beautiful. Beauty is truly on the inside. (Says the girl who admittedly was searching for videos of “how to lighten your hair naturally.” )I should take my own advice. Gonna go feed my cats!

if you lighten it with anything to do with salts, such as baking soda. you wil need to do a oil treatment afterwards to help keep your hair from being super damaged. coconut oil is what i use. it smells great and combats the dryness. both the apple cidar vinegar and baking soda mixed twice a week for a few weeks you will notice a difference. but nothing will compare to outright just going to salon and getting the instant highlights. people expect instant results too often with things that are meant to do over long periods of time. so in other words if you want instant noticable results just go to salon or buy the lighteners yourself. bc the at home methods like this are for people who have patience and time to do so.

Did you ever color your hair after using Go Blonder Spray? I used it only once and my hair is brassy now and I’m scared to color it because of damage.

Possibly but it might have that brass hue. Mine didn’t get as light as I like it so I eventually ended up doing some highlights

I’m really thinking about doing a lemon juice, camomile, hydrogen peroxide and maybe sometype of oil (like coconut or rosemary) rinse and just soak my hair in the mix in a bowl then going outside in the sun on a hot day letting it air dry. Really think I’m going to try it, if the camomile doesn’t work at least my hair will be soft and my hope is the oil would protect from damage but maybe I could just do an oil or deep conditioning afterwards 🤔

Hello, and thank you for this detailed video 🙂 I also have light brown hair and wanted to try to lighten it naturally. I have tried last summer for a month the following method: Every single day I applied a mixture of strong chamomille tea with lots of lemon onto my hair and sat outside for like 1 or 2 hours around midday. I haven't dyed my hair before. No result, I should have rather drank that awesome chamomille tea with lemon! I was so mad, wasting so much time and drink! I also have to add that my hair is thin, so I supposed to have a high change for good results..

Oh, god. the baking soda. rip. I tried that whole no shampooing thing years ago and the one I was following called for a lot of baking soda and this was on hair that's never heat-styled, had never been dyed, and it just felt horrible. People said the hair needed time to acclimate, so I kept doing it, but it was just getting worse. Never again lol.
