I agree 110% regarding changing the hooks on the whopper plopper. River2sea uses the larger hooks on most all of their baits. I've lost several fish due to the thick hooks fishing for bass. That being said the Choppo has excellent hooks no need to change them. Great job Tyler, truly enjoy your videos.

Because of all the hype that the Whooper Ploppers had going for them back when they first came on the market, I ended up buying one of the 75s. I fished with it for about a year and a half before I ever got a bite on one. Out of the blue one day I finally got a bite. Then I got nothing again. Out of frustration, I decided to copy the design in my CAD software and shrink the size down to about a third the size of the 75 Whopper Plopper size. I then 3D printed me some samples and took them to the river to see how they ran through the water as I reeled them in. I caught bass the very first time out with my smaller DIY 3D printed Whopper Plopper knockoffs. Shortly after I shrunk down and 3D printed my own Whopper Ploppers, the maker of the original Whopper Ploppers came out with a Plopper that was a bit smaller than the 75 Whopper Plopper. I bought one of those smaller OEM Whopper Ploppers too. That was about three or four years ago now and I haven't caught anything else with them. My smaller DIY plopper still catch fish. Go figure. I did the same thing with one of those other top water propeller type lures called the "Revolver." First time out with my DIY knockoffs I caught fish. instagram.com/p/B3dvv68B3z3/

@@timmontano8792 I never tried a plopper but a choppo has a hard plastic tail spinner instead of the soft plopper tail spinner. That and size might make it better for your area. The sound might be different also.

I find stopping the retrieve and letting it set for a 3 or 5 second period gives the fish, if coming up from 20 or so fow. gives them time to travel that distance. Bone is my go to colour and when you catch 2, 22in. smallies on one cast you know you have a battle on your hands. Nice light Spinning rod 7'2" does my most work. Kill and go best description going.

Tyler, you have it SPOT-ONin my opinion here. On the 15th of September i caught a stunning 2,7kg bass jn a farm dam here in South Africa. I used a size 110 black and silver plopper bought on Temu, paired with a 7 foot m/heavy rod and 30 pound braid. I was worried about the quality of the hooks when i saw the baits i bought but did not change them. I nearly lost the fish because when i had him on the bank the hooks (front bite) was nearly bent open. I had to change the hooks and my local tackle shop owner also sold me quality hooks with a thin diameter. Thanks for a great video as always.

I’ve been fishing over 50 years and guided I’ve only caught one cat on a topwater and it was a 12 lb channel cat on a zera spook. I caught that cat back around 1980. I’ve caught a lot of huge flatheads on jigging spoons and swimbaits on a jighead and 12” Powerworms. Mostly on jigging spoons. Biggest was on a swimbait and it was 3 oz shy of 40 lbs. Most of the flatheads I catch on lures are between 20 and 30 pounds. I’d say 95% of them. Not often I catch smaller ones. I caught most of them on purpose. I’ve figured out the spots they hang out and when they’re there on my local lake. They go in my deep fryer.

Yeah well lucky me, I was fishing with the white 75 Plopper and had THE biggest snapping turtle I’ve ever seen ( about as big a round as a man hole cover) hit it and went straight to the bottom. I didn’t see it and thought I just caught the biggest bass or Nothern of my life!! I fought and fought and finally got that thing to surface and I about 💩 myself!! Damn thing had all 3 hooks of the rear treble hook in its mouth, 1 in the top 2 on the bottom to where its mouth was basic shut and couldn’t open it and needless to say I had to cut the line and lose my Plopper.

@@nicandre7943 wait until you catch a big soft shell turtle. I’ve caught plenty of snappers and soft shells and the soft shells fight like a fish with speed and swimming unlike the slow heavy weight on bottom of a snapper. Those big soft shells are fast swimmers and runners.

Some good tips. NDYakAngler mostly uses 75s so that's what I mostly use now since I kayak fish and it's been working. Please if you're going to tell people to swap out treble hooks then tell us what size you swap them out for or at the very least link them. You say you don't want to overwhelm us but not saying a size you swap out for is more overwhelming than doing the actual swap. This is the second time in recent videos you've mentioned swapping trebles out but have given no direction to folks on what they should substitute with for size. Thanks and I appreciate your content!

The trebles on the r2s whoppers are money and i see absolutely zero reason to change them out. Also NDYA is the goat, and it the reason I use 75s exclusively now as well. The more narrow models have trouble staying afloat right after a cast in my experience.

This evening during dusk almost dark I was throwing a plopper I only had 15 minutes because I told the wife I was going to the grocery store but anyway I was casting from the bank and on probably my 3rd or 4th cast I had a monster blow up on it in the shallows right when I was going to lift it out of the water but it missed it and I had no water to do any retrieve tricks. It splashed around to get back in deeper water. Watching a bass that size so close yet so far away I could tell it would have been my pb. The image of that pig missing the strike and then thrashing around right in front of me will forever be burned in my brain

When fishing around weeds should you happen to snag one it can wrap around the spinning tail and then make the entire bait spin and twist your line. to avoid this, Simply put a split ring on the front of the plopper and then a swivel onto the split ring and tie to the swivel. It won't affect the action and should you jam up the bait with a weed you won't get all the line twist and will just have to take the weed off.
