Anders when I think of purist barmen, I think of you. I love that you keep the recipes traditional and don't stray into fads. Plus you appreciate a beautiful glass. My parents loved beautiful glasses and antique dishware and traveled the world collecting them. I am missing them this Christmas, but somehow seeing the Brandy Alexander glass reminded me of them. Cheers.

The Colleen Bawn is a play by an Irishman which is probably an english version of the Irish An Cailín Bán which would directly translate to The White Girl, which makes sense given the drinks appearance. Other translation interpretations could be White Lady, Pale Girl/Lady, Fair Girl/Lady

I remember keeping bar up on Madeline Island years ago. I went out there before the ice was out and we would get a lot of requests for the Wisconsin take on the Brandy Alexander. The more seasoned of my esteemed colleagues absolutely loathed making them because of how much work and mess was required. I on the other hand, found the drink charming and enjoyed making them. Needless to say, I backed myself into a corner on that one!😂

My Mother's favorite drink was the traditional Brandy Alexander. When we would travel or go to great restaurants - you would be surprised at how many bar tenders did not know how to make one. And did not have proper ingredients either. It was frustrating. But now that drinking is heavily on the scene again in America, it has come back. Too bad my Mother is not around to enjoy this period of the revival of proper cocktails in America.

One of my favorite “seasonal holiday drinks” is a bourbon flip, with bourbon that has been fatwashed in browned butter. And when your at it, making a more “complex” drink, use a rich, caramel sugar suryp (about 2/3 ounce) 👌🏻😍😋 It’s like drinking toffee/caramel/fudge candy, but still a nice bourbon drink. But one is usually enough 😁.

Garnished with a cocktail cherry. Enjoy

I tried the Sentimental Gentleman and it was far too sweet for my taste. I revised it to .75oz walnut liqueur and .25oz Benedictine and added a dash or two of black walnut bitters. Turned out to be amazing, much more balanced. I used Rittenhouse because of the higher ABV and I think that helped with the sweetness, too.

Can someone explain to me the stirring with ice and then poring over ice? If you’re like most folks, who only have one type of ice, does it make a difference? Why not open poor?
@davidperalta52809 ай бұрын
Dilution is the reason mostly. Smaller ice has more surface area per cooling volume. Once you've stirred with ice it's pretty much served it's use to dilute and chill the drink. The new ice helps maintain drink temp, since its bigger and melts slower it will dilute the cocktail less.

ANY sloe gin cocktail will be Christmassy to me. Here in merry old England, as a child I'd go picking sloes with my grandma every autumn so that she may prick them and steep them in Gordon's for a couple of months or so. Only in my teens at Christmas was I allowed to taste that cough-syrupy goodness. No shop-bought liqueur ever tasted as good as ours.
