I always felt that the Simpsons/ Futurama crossover was a soft conclusion to both shows in a way, ending the Simpsons we're all familiar with, with a nice crossover episode.

I do not like The Simpsons Guy and Simpsorama because The Simpsons is a world where yellow people are "white", but Family Guy and Futurama are not that yellow world. I always found that to be...more than a little problematic. Then again, I also didn't like motherly love being outlawed in Simpsorama, or The Simpsons Guy turning into a platform to make fun of Family Guy for "plagiarizing" The Simpsons, and that for plagiarizing The Flintstones. "Halloween Of Horror" from Season 27 is one of my favorite Simpsons episodes of all time. I never see anyone else give it love, but I think it's genuinely hilarious, spooky and touching with really excellent animation. These are good choices for the best 5 modern eps, though I don't love the Futurama crossover. I agree with those who say it's rushed. I think it should have been a 2 parter.

In my opinion The greatest story ever Doh'ed could've been Ned just feels like taking Rod and Todd to show them Israel and Homer winning a trip to come along It would at least make a tad bit more sense.

You think someone winning a contest that's prize just happens to be the exact vacation that his neibour was planning is more logical than the idea that Ned Simply invited them? Also would that have fixed the episode, was the biggest problem with the episode to you that you couldn't fathom the idea that someone would go on vacation with friends. When I was a kid I went to the Isle of White with my mum's friend Claire every summer and this may surprise you but we didn't win the same contest every year.

I highly recommend season 32 if you haven't got into it yet. Its so far been a real standout compared to other recent seasons. Its no season 3 - 8 but much more enjoyable than I was expecting for this late in the day.

The Simpsons has so many episodes that he should really make another 5 worst/best modern episodes anytime soon for other best new episodes that are not like those out-of-the-ordinary plots, but have some good emotion and character in the story. But I do not like most of these being episodes where the Simpsons temporarily grow up (i.e. Barthood and Holidays of Future Passed) the crossover Simpsorama, or Brick Like Me, the lego parody episode. At least none of these are Flanders Ladder. But I really wanted to hear from Strider on Halloween of Horror and The Way of the Dog! Those should also be one of the best modern episodes. It’s also that episode where Ned Flanders was… well, flanderized while Homer wasn’t by his low standards, so thank God for that jab towards The Simpsons Movie 1 (hopefully the sequel will be a massive improvement, even by the (mixed but mostly) low standards of The Simpsons as of the 21st Century) because while it has strong visuals, it was also written to be mean-spirited as if somehow that makes the movie more grand and epic. Most movies AniMat gives the Seal of Approval I strongly agree with because if all his great points, but TSM1, like the Pixar films made between Coco and Onward (Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4 of the Sequel Era) and Frozen 1 (guys, I’ve just rewatched it with an open mind as recently as last year, and while I love what it’s trying to do, it needs a lot more work on the story and shouldn’t have been this overexposed. Something the sequel barely improved upon. But hey, like I said, I respect these movies more than I like them because at least they have great animation and interesting themes that justifies their fans!).

That warthog joke and the bag boy strike were the best things about Simpson Safari. Granted I was a kid when I first saw it, but I remember laughing so hard at the Warthog joke at the time.

Barthood is my favorite future episode, mostly because it’s the only one that treats Bart with some dignity. He’s not written to be some kind of failure or is overly pathetic. He’s a mild success, and seems happy. It’s nice to see something unique done with him, after other modern episodes that don’t handle him well. My only gripe is that scene where Lisa blows up at Bart, because we actually DO see moments where she (unintentionally) takes attention away from him throughout the years. It’s more nitpicky than anything, but I’m not a fan of that scene.

I'd argue that Lisa's wedding gave him due respect. Sure he was a construction worker but he was good at his job and happy while doing it and Barts slip-ups weren't detrimental to him, but just a quirk to his character.

@@sophiebubbles07 the episode reuses old simpsons ideas (most notably the family being broke) and isn’t particularly funny. Burns also reuses a joke from an older season (which was funnier the first time) about there being a “new” Mexico. In addition, there’s a scene where homer dresses up as a panda and goes into the exhibit at the zoo. It’s heavily implied that he was... assaulted by the other panda. Very uncomfortable scene that’s not funny in the slightest.

In my opinion, I didn't find the episode that bad aside from the panda rape scene, there were some funny moments including the scene where Homer throws pudding into Lenny's eye and the part where Homer eats the Spider-Man comic.

Recently I’ve been binge watching the Simpsons on Disney+ and I must admit for a show that has been running for so long it has been an Amazing experience. Sure it has bad episodes, but that’s to be expected from a show that’s lasted for so many years. However I hope that when the show does meet its end, it ends in a way that is fulfilling to fans that have stuck with it for so long.

@@paulamurphy3775 I think that cutaways actually can be funny, but only in the right context. Modern Family Guy has just been adding way to many when there should only be about 1-3 per episode. Cutaways should also help tie the story together when a character shares an experience, instead of just being a filler joke you see the Griffins watching on TV at the beginning of an episode.

@@phantomstrider, I enjoy it too. The safari episode is basically probably the least offensive out of them, including (Ahem!) Bart Vs Australia and Blame it on Lisa, but others like The Regina Monologues are really respectful. And as for the Lego episode, I also really liked it! It had a unique plot that also switched between the Lego world and the real world, that it goes to show that the creators really cared about it. It gets a well done from me! 👍 I really enjoyed the video, because I never really watched The Simpsons regularly these days, but I do look back at them for a memory down trip lane, I mean a trip down Memory Lane, sorry for that. I think that this year will be a lot better than last year, and I hope to see more content from you that makes everyone smile. Even when you trolled us, it actually got a laugh out of me. You’re swell.

The simpsons is nothing short of a masterful show, and it's great to see that even now, thirty three years after the simpsons originally premiered, there are still wonderful episodes with some people even thinking that the show has made a resurgence in recent years, and with episodes like barthood, paths of glory and Brick like me, i can only agree

I don't think there was a significant uptick in quality. The thing is, people are quite overdramatic with all of their stupid "The day the Simpsons died" nonsense. While sure, seasons 3-8 had the most consistently good episode, 9-18 still had quite a lot of strong ones and even after that (and they were REALLY running out of ideas at that point) there was still the occational highlight.

I could gather all the great to good episodes from season 21-32 and I probably would have 3 great seasons, maybe 4. I think the writing crew has talent, they just need a fire lit under their bums to get it going. Success breeds lethargy.

I really liked Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes as far as new Simpsons gems. Homer and Flanders working together as a team had a kind of charm, lots of comedy, and the action and B-plot really kept the pace up throughout.

Feel like Strong Arms of the Ma has to be at the very least a dishonourable mention, if not on the list. Marge assaulting Homer in the bedroom and the show playing it for a laugh is a depressing example of how our society treats sexual assault, especially concerning victims who are married. Otherwise, a nice list. I feel like there could have been more 2000's episodes on the list but I'm glad the great later episodes got spotlight too.

I guess I'm more forgiving than most. In my opinion season 1-26 is a masterpiece after that it is very hit and miss. One problem I have with the more recent ones is the constant imagination scenes. In older episodes they were every now and then now they are in every episode sometimes multiple times an episode. To me it feels like a lazy way to write cheap jokes. The Simpsons was intended to be somewhat realistic but they can do whatever gag they want if the characters imagine it.

I remember one of the better modern Simpsons episodes I've watched was the one where Bart is tired of how mundane his life has become, so he traps his family and everyone else on a dream cruise ship in order to have fun forever, only for it to turn into a nightmare. Not only were the jokes funny, but its message of "Stop thinking about fun, and have it" is not only deep but also very important for a lot of people.

The things as great as Barthood it was kind of the last straw for Lisa and Homer’s characters. While neither Bart nor Lisa are wholly in the right, Bart is the only one shown to be in the wrong. The story is primarily from his point of view and all he sees is Lisa upstaging him at every turn, and she shows little to no remorse for that fact. They have a big fight at Milhouse's graduation party where she gives him a backhanded compliment, praising him for his artistic talent but saying "the thing all artists have in common is a miserable life, and if I'm responsible for that you're welcome!" The problem is that this is a regular occurrence not just in this episode but throughout the entire series Lisa is blatantly treated better then Bart Marge and Homer have even called her the good child and the one we like right in front of Bart on more then one occasion. Lisa was constantly showing him up throughout the episode for no reason, with some of them being on purpose. Another recurring plotline Bart succeeds at something, only for Lisa to grow jealous/resentful and the episode will end with Bart giving up what he loves to make her happy. Plus anytime Bart complains about how different their parants treat them Lisa’s response is the same as above get over it. So while Bart's terrible lot in life isn't her fault, Lisa still ruined chances for him, and was insensitive towards all his problems. He's right to blame her for some of his problems, and he is right to be angry because she's never made to see fault in her own behavior. To drive this home further, the final part of the episode shows that Bart was able to become a successful artist and bike shop owner, moving past his grudge against Lisa in order to succeed... Except he was able to succeed after he essentially cut her out of his life and avoided her. So he succeeded even with the grudge, and getting away from her not only helped him, but would later go on to help repair their relationship. Ending the episode by says Bart can’t be successful unless he completely shuts Lisa out of his life really undercuts its point. As for Homer yes for all the trouble Bart causes Homer still bluntly 'admits' that he doesn't want anything to do with Bart to a therapist, and can't say one nice thing to his son that isn't backhanded. Pitting your children against each other is one of the more subtle but particularly odious forms of bad parenting/child abuse yet there’s never any consequence for. Even you admitted you feel sorry for him. The Same with Holiday of Future Past the fact that Lisa is married to Milhouse shows her as self destructive and makes Bart's sacrifice in the previous episode completely pointless. it is also a thinly veiled attempt to absolve Homer and Marge of responsibility for their bad parenting

tbh the couch gag from clown in the dumps is one ofnthe show's best imo not only is the animation really creative and detailed, but it serves as a crazily self aware metaphor for the show and its decline. i think the year 10,535 bit shows how the series has just become a corporate product at this point, just capitalising on people's nostalgia and selling merchandise, and how as a result the writing quality and the characters have become shells of their past selves. also genuinely i find the dream montage after this so moving - the chopin nocturne is a great choice of soundtrack omg - and the bit where marge says 'i will never forget you' gives me chills every time. its so poignant and sad, specially when you consider how garish the show in the gag has become. uh yeah, so overall its a great gag. i like it 👍 also it introduced me to don hertzfeld and his work, so thats nice :D
