I am not embarrassed to say I liked them and still do. They're still available in Canada under the Popeyes brand as "candy sticks", and I think I'm going to pick some up soon. Guess what the solution is? You don't think about it too hard. It's just a stick of sugar, and I've always had a bit of an oral fixation. Never smoked, never will, and I grew up around a smoker. It helps I can't work a lighter even if it was to save my life.

Being a Mexican myself I've never seen the chicos candy, and it translates literally into "guys", so the term itself hasn't any derogatory meaning IMO, the fact that they're chocolate and its color alludes to Hispanic people on the other hand might be the reason they got rebranded. A similar case happened here in Mexico where a chocolate covered pastry was called "Negrito"... things didn't go quite well and got rebranded into "Nito" which means nothing in particular.

One day on the school bus on the way home, one of the high schoolers had one of those candy cigarettes. They were the type that would even “smoke” if you blew the candy dust off of them. Well the bus driver saw the teen “smoking” & thought it was the real thing. The bus driver yelled & pulled the bus over. The teen ate the “evidence” & the bus driver refused to continue to drive home until someone fessed up & gave over the cigarette. There was nothing to give!! We sat there for hours until the school demanded we drive back to the school. Meanwhile, none of the parents (like mine) knew why the school bus was hours late & this was before cell phones. So all the kids on our route just “vanished!” In the end no one got in trouble - teen or driver - & I missed the Disney Afternoon that day because it was before we owned a VCR…

The funny thing with the Skittles is that this immediately made me think of just how far manufacturers went with the real life Every Flavor Beans, actually including all the nasty flavors that were mentioned in the Harry Potter books. But at least those had a legitimate excuse in that this was done to be as authentic to the source as possible. This just feels like a really bad Halloween prank gone wrong.

I honestly feel like the Rotten Flesh Skittles was more an attempt to appeal to the spirit of the Halloween season gone too far than anything else. I mean, if you compare them to the Every Flavor Beans, you'll notice that those had flavors that were meant to be gross intentionally, most likely as a sort of "risk versus reward" kind of gamble, if you want to think of it that way, in my opinion. Besides, sometimes kids actually WANT to try something that sounds like it might be unappealing, even if just out of curiosity; in fact, I remember that my younger brother and sister had at one point when we went to a huge candy store each bought a bottle of bacon flavored soda, despite them not expecting it to taste good. It wound up sitting in our fridge for quite a long time (I think it was years, if I'm not mistaken) before they finally decided to try them out of curiosity, I took a sip, too, and while it was definitely odd, it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, all things considered

if I'm honest I don't even think it was taken too far. the skittles were edible, i just find the concept a bit baffling. zombies don't exactly eat other zombies. i guess they wanted to capitalize on the zombie boom, but even considering that, they were a bit late for that train by 2019/2020. dunno, they could do green sludge or something like fanta when they did a blood red version a halloween or two ago.

If you’ve ever been to a Halloween party where they have those “feel the gross object” thing going on, that’s probably what makes Zombie Skittles so popular during the holiday: it fits the more “Do you dare” aspect without doing something rather questionable. #1 Pepsi Blue was an interesting soda with a berry flavor. I also remember Jolt Cola in the 1980s for the insane amount of caffeine. This led to the Independence Day (July 4th) themed "Red White and Dew" flavor that mixed all three flavors that give the soda a purple color. When I got to NY about ,16-18 hrs later, I was still jumpy and couldn't sleep until the next night. It lasted about 48 hrs for me, I guess bc I wasn't used to all that caffeine and sugar. I tried almost everything to flush it through my system and to calm down but it was no use it just had to run its course I guess. It was very powerful for me. According to one tribe that once practiced cannibalism, human flesh tastes similar to to pork (which makes sense as pigs are sometimes used by scientists as human analogs due to similarities in body tissues) which is why they referred to it as "long pork". Saw it on an episode of River Monsters where host Jeremy Wade was investigating a case involving a species of fish that was attacking the "privates" of local men (known locally as the "Ball Cutter") and Jeremy used pork (as a substitute for human flesh) as bait. Ironically, he discovered the culprit was introduced species of piranha which normally feed upon nuts and vegetation, but unfortunately they became a invasive species and became carnivorous due to the ecological damage they caused by eating local plant life. The episode always stuck with me cause it answered the question, what does human meat actually taste like? So I'd imagine rotting human flesh would probably taste similar to rotting pork!

well in the case of beanboozled it leans more into the Russian roulette aspect of the candy in the form of the beanboozled challenge. in case you didn't know, the beanboozled jellybeans come in a special box/tin/case with a spinner wheel included. the challenge involves you and one or more of your friends taking turns spinning the wheel, with each space having corresponding jellybean, or rather two. this is where the risk comes in as you have to eat the jellybean matching the one you landed on, but there's a catch: as each jellybean on each space represents two different beans that, while the look the same taste radically different. (for example one could be peach or barf flavored.) with points being awarded accordingly. (two for swallowing a bad tasting bean, one for spiting it out and none for getting the non-gross bean.) with the goal of getting the most points at the end. though players are allowed to come up with custom rules to add to it, such as how many time a player must chew before swallowing the bean etc.

I’ve only ever seen them in tobacco stores. So the only people really exposed to them are smokers. They’re a great prop for high school plays for a prisoner character or something, and a way for people quitting smoking to get the whole oral fixation without the chemicals and stuff. Something more powerful got them off of mainstream shelves than governments: money. Advertising smoking directly to kids is distasteful, and turns people away from buying other stuff.

I got one releases of Blue Pepsi (that one from the Philippines in 2018 or 2019 (?) ), and I can tell you it just tasted like blueberry Pepsi. Also in 2018(?) Coca-Cola Clear got released in Japan and I also got it. And it tasted like a citrus soft drink (like 7up or Sprite) but just a little bit sugary and with a pinch of salt (well it's normal for Japanese Coca-Colas to have salt added to it). Another less known Coca Cola, because it was another Japan-exclusive was Strawberry Coca-Cola (in 2020) and it was your typical Japanese version of Coca-Cola (it has more caramel taste than sugary sweet (or terribleness of artificial sugar found in the "diet" version of soft drinks) and has that pinch of salt in it) mixed with a creamy strawberry soft drink (yea creamy sodas and other soft drinks of this type are popular in Japan and many other countries from Asia region). And those two things mixed worked very well. It's so sad it was a limited release. I hope someday it would come back. It was one of my favorites.

Fun fact with the wonderballs, a big part of their repeated reappearances had to do with people smuggling Kinder Eggs in from Europe which were very popular, it was an attempt to cash in on the popularity with people [the most common story is a foreign relative or family friend sneaking a case of them in via their luggage, usually with glowing nostalgia] but often failed because they usually didn't understand that the toy/candy filling was fairly secondary to a fond family memory and actually fairly unusual chocolate for an American palette [Kinder Eggs are two-toned, german milk chocolate on the outside, white chocolate on the inside, and the chocolate softens and turns flexible before it melts] and so they'd usually flop. They finally managed to regain some staying power in the last rough decade.

As a fellow Latino... I don't know which specific countries say chicos is derogative, but in Chile it's not derogative, like a all. Chicos means boys, like kids. Between friends we even call ourselves chiquillos. Hell, chico/s is used constantly here in Chile (some places even using chico as part of their name). We Latinos normally don't care about the names, except if it's REALLY insulting. But most most of the time we laughed it off xD In fact, what actually makes us angry is when people not from latin america say we found something offensive when it's not (the speedy Gonzales controversy and the Whitewashing in Encanto come to mind). Also when you call us latinxs, please never do that If we don't raise our voice about a topic we actually don't really care. Sometimes we like this kind of stupid representation xD

They didn’t accept the FDA telling them what to do and didn’t allow their double standard of allowing a soda product that still to this day, although you won’t see it on the ingredients list for obvious reasons, still includes a very small trace of actual cocaine and banning them, a product which simply uses the word cocaine as a trademark. I’ll agree though that calling your energy drink that definitely isn’t the smartest from a sales and marketing perspective, and while it does have an absolutely absurd amount of caffeine, at the end of the day it’s up to any potential consumer of it to remember: _caveat emptor_ (“Let the buyer beware.”).

No, one represents 4 ordinary beers. By drinking 4, you are in effect drinking 16 high alcohol beers with no chance to recover, because of the stimulants. I still drink the current 4locos. The grape is my favorite, the lemonade is a close second. However, one is enough, for at least 4 hours!:)

To be honest, it's more the personality I feel that makes these videos interesting. You can have the most interesting video topic in the world but I'll still be checking my watch if there's no shits given in the presentation. For instance, a lot of the time with Top X videos, you've seen them once you'll never go back. A lot of them are done-in-one throwaway mindless content. Think Watchmojo, it's dozen spin-off channels or Top 15s. Strider's content exists in a weirder place in that even his worst videos (mainly from using examples that he's used before like SpongeBob's multiple Top X lists) he's already used in other videos) are still very watchable just because he shows some personality beyond "dead inside robot."

Ah man this brings me back to better days, 90s early 2000s childhood was the best. My neighborhood street was full of kids outside all day till night we all skated & played GTA 3 & vice city on my PS2. Right up the block was a corner store we always went to, i always got candy cigarettes & the Jolt drinks or the Nos bottles. I also remember drinking pepsi blue & getting chocolate wonder balls at the food store. I heard about the drink cocaine but never had it. Also don't forget the different colored Ez squirt ketchup & those weird sour tasting funky fries lol. Thanks for the upload.

I’m curious if there’s enough candidates for cancelled cereal products such as the Froot Loops cereal straws. I feel like such a list would be neat. Also as an American while candy cigarettes aren’t banned, they aren’t sold anywhere major either.

Right, I remember I used to get these things in every Easter back I would get as a kid. Which kind of annoyed me cuz I was never into candy cigarettes. I was very very picky with my candy. By the time I got to high school it's like they just disappeared. Never saw a box again in stores or an Easter egg baskets or anywhere really. I mean, this is literally vanished straight off the earth. I can't remember the last time I've seen anybody eating a candy cigarette

My sister and I used to get those packs of candy cigarettes each week. I liked the Round Up packages with the cowboy, she got the Stallion packages with the black horse. It wasn't until my mid 20's that I took up e-cigarettes due to working in the movie theater business, but still limited myself to one each holiday season (otherwise known as absolute hell at that job). When the theaters closed in 2020 I quit. Took it back up when I briefly rejoined that industry for three months in 2022, but haven't smoked since. My sister never took up the habit at all.

I feel like the whole appeal of the Zombie Skittles was supposed to be akin to the Bean Boozled challenge from a few years back. You get to play something of a party game with your friends or prank someone and then shove it online for internet clout. I'd say they had pretty damn good reason to rail on this and not the original, though; the original Bean Boozled challenge had quite a bit of variety in the flavors, good and bad, while with the Zombie Skittles you only get, like, 10 flavors if you count each "zombie" variant as a different flavor.

Luckily, growing up in America after candy cigarettes were rebranded, I can say that nearly 100% of my peers hated candy cigarettes, and even those who ate them only ate them as absolute last resort candy. They definitely aren't appealing to the kids of today.

When were those candies ever appealing? Other than kids thinking it's cool because they get to pretend that they smoked. That's literally the only thing I ever did with candy cigarettes. They taste like crap. I mean, it must be a very acquired taste for some people. Cuz I for one never like the flavor. I never knew anybody who did. And what's funny is now I'm actually a smoker. But I was more influenced by at home full of smokers rather than a box of candy. Crap, I would rather have an actual cigarette over a candy cigarette. It still taste like shit, but it's the feeling that matters. That's why people smoke. The feeling of the nicotine buzz, and the feeling of the smoke going in and out. In reality, the only real influence that gets people into cigarettes it's just curiosity. That or peer pressure. But most people I knew only tried savers out of pure curiosity. What is it like? How does it feel? Why do people crave it if it taste and smells like shit? Literally the only way you're going to answer these questions is by trying it. So in reality the only thing that's going to convince you to try it is whether or not you want to answer these questions that badly. Personally that's what convinced me to start smoking. Curiosity more than anything. And no, you're not going to get the answers just by asking a smoker those questions. That's not how it works. You'll never be satisfied with the answer or think it makes sense. It's not going to make sense. You're trying to understand a physical feeling from a chemical reaction. Now I'm not here trying to convince anybody to smoke or anything. I'm just standing a fact that matter. These questions can't be answered unless you try it. And typically it's not recommended. So really it's not worth answering those questions. And asking a smoker is not going to be enough to answer those questions because it's an experience thing. You can't understand it unless you experience it. No amount of questions or how specific they are is going to give you the answer you're looking for. And pretty much the same goes for any other experienced that you may not be into or want to try but you just don't understand why people do it. You can ask all the questions all you want. You never truly going to understand until you experience it for yourself. And there's a good chance you might not ever know what that experience is like. Cuz you might not even like it anyways. everybody's body is different. Just because you can inhale it doesn't mean your body will like it. And the last thing you should be concerned about is not like in a drug. You should be more concerned about really liking it.

@@HK47_115 Supposedly, in the US there were like super fancy ones made with butterscotch, * a way to light them *, and bubblegum built in. I say supposedly because my parents (who are in thier 60s) claim that these were some of the most luxurious candies around and NOTHING like the cheap, chalky ones that came later. Big Tabacco was obessed on the American market during the time, so I guess it would make sense that they went ALL OUT on the propoganda. Also, my parents are glad that they are no longer a thing for obvious reasons.

Okay, so I figured it out... My parents must have had access to the 1950s *bubblegum* cigarettes, which DO seem to fit thier description. These came in many flavors, had a butterscotch "filter", and from what I can tell... were indeed meant to actually taste good. The cheaper regular ones were always... weird sweet chalky things.

I believe you missed Doritos Roulette which were similar to the zombie skittles. only difference was that instead of rotting flesh flavored chip, you would be likely to bite into either a normal nacho cheese flavored chip, or one VERY spicy chip; measuring 78k on the Scoville Scale apparently! This amount of heat alone was enough for the states to ban them, but spicy food daredevils in the rest of the world were welcome to try their luck (hence “roulette”). The bags even stated that they were not meant for children, but the apparently didn’t stop one asthmatic student in the UK from getting her hands on the bag, then being hospitalized after eating the hot chip. As a result of this incident, the chips were actually banned in schools across the UK. They’ve done a rerun of the chips in 2021, but I’m not sure if they were limited or not (the 2021 version packaging looked pretty good tho).

Can see why they were left off is Strider's even aware of them. They're factually very similar with (as you said) only the gimmick being different. If it came to a toss-up, I can imagine he left it off since there's just more joke potential than burning your mouth off. That or there's just more ways to describe zombie flesh flavour than a food with its gimmick being "this was really fucking hot."
