The guy wasn't suffering from paranoia, his fears were well founded. His enemies were real and so his actions in creating immunity from poison were actually quite brilliant. So it was ironic that things ended in the way they did. But it wasn't paranoia coming back to haunt him. It was irony.

in the 16th century (correction, not 16th century. Was in a different time period) a person convicted of murder was sentenced to having the murdered victim shackled, chained and tied onto the back of the convicted person, so the decaying body would slowly decay into the flesh of the prisoner until it poisoned rotten and eventually (slowly) killed them. Now that would be a definite deterrent for murdering someone.

If there existed more than 1 case and it was a public law that everyone knew of, then technically by default it's not a "definite" deterrent; because the 2nd, 3rd.. and so on were definitely not deterred lol

Not as bad as eating yourself alive while enduring the Death of Chitterlings. The wretch is first starved for 20 days while being given a small amount of water to keep him alive. On the 21st day a small hole is cut under the stomach, then a strand of the small intestine is pulled through the hole and placed in the victims mouth while he can gnaw away at them, inch by inch, trying to satisfy his insane hunger despite his revulsion until he gets to his own inside out asshole.

If you are interested in original and innovative torture (to death) methods, I recommend taking a look at the Iroquois and Hurons, who really perfected the art of ritual torture (pulling out tendons, crushing, twisting and cutting off extremities, slow burning flesh and joints to the bone, cutting off noses, lips, ears and eyelids, replacing eyes with hot coals, partial flaying and stuffing corn stalks under the skin etc.). The average fate of a tortured captive was about as bad as of those accused of regicide in Europe. This ritual torture originated from a very complex system of mourning rituals, dualistic world view and interpretation of human soul. Adam Strueck's A Place under Heaven is a good overall description of the individual cases, methods and reasons why it took place, as well as how the Catholic idea of suffering and martyrdom was later integrated to this system. Nathaniel Knowles also wrote a long article about the patterns found across the North America. Somehow almost every video focused on execution or torture completely dismisses all the stuff that happened outside Europe and Asia, although there are literally hundreds of documented cases and a lot of archaeological evidence to back these records up.

usuluh 😣😖 Unfortunately.......yep. Humans can be universally cruel and enjoy the suffering of others. Look. I am pro death penalty. We had a Serial Killer in my city (Robert Yates, the Spokane Serial Killer). Later we had a “Monster”, Joseph Duncan the 3rd who attacked a random family )(at their home) killed the Mom, Step Father, and teenager with a framing hammer while they were bound so he could take the 10 year old boy and 9 year girl to the wilderness to rape and torture at his pleasure. He even taped it. Only the girl survived due to an attentive waitress and patrons at a restaurant. The Jury has to see that rape and torture of the boy on tape because it was a death penalty case. I am for the death penalty. But not torture. Lethal injection, gassing, hanging, old sparky, firing squad, bullet to the head.....heck even beheading. A little bloody, but nice and quick. Yes dying can hurt. But so can stepping on a lego. Some monsters just need to be Fed Exed to Hell. Like Ted Bundy. They are a threat till not breathing any more. This punishment should only be reserved for the worse of the worse. But should be given quickly. After reading the detail of what Joseph did to those 2 kids.....heck I would volunteer to be his executioner! He did what he did on my Birthday. So every year the news talked about it. I hate my own birthday so much now.

Ur absolutely correct and as there was no interaction between east and west prior to Columbus' ringimg along his catholic methods of torture, id say that this makes a damn good case for the fact that we have an inate built in barbarity that i cant explain as were the only known species of the billions to have existed here that indulges in this vile shit unless u toss in cats playing with their food at times.Makes u wonder whether we really belong here to begin with does it not? I was going to nominate the many instances in which Anabaptist and other "heretics" in 16thC Europe were slowly lowered into blazing fires with sacks of gunpowder stuffed into their mouths. But that was actually a mercy to them, since it ensured a coup de grace by having their heads blown off. A side benefit was that they could make no last-minute claim of innocence or other statement embarrassing to the established authority. But again, that fate was not as horrific as these.
