I tried the tip of taking the club back with my right hand today in my club competition. Have to say this worked a treat. Have been struggling to break 80 lately. Shot 76 today and finished second place. Thanks Matt, this helped heaps. Keep up the great content.

Loved this video. Lots of helpful takeaways for me. I'm definitely one of those people that fall into the "crushes a 3 wood, shanks the driver" camp. I think the straight-back takeaway is what I need to work on. I also like the fairway finder tip at the end. I'll have to give that a shot once I work through the bigger kink. I truly appreciate your videos, Matt!

On that tip with the head cover. I went to a clinic many years ago. The guy who put it on said to take a piece of masking tape, the thin stuff, and put it across your floor straight back from the ball or a ball position. I did it in my living room and put a mark on the tape where the ball would be. Then you just practice slowly swinging back and just keep the end of the shaft along that tape line until you get your hands waist high. It works for me. Of course I do not have that house or wife anymore but I still use the tape in my new house. Just ingrains that path you want the shaft to follow. Just an FYI. You do not need to even have a ball or a club head. Just a shaft will do.

If your forward press opens your club face then you don't know how to forward press. When done correctly your lead wrist will bow which closes the clubface. If you are coming in with an open face after a forward press then you are pressing your hands away from your body instead of towards the target. Also, a forward press will not work if you tend to have an arm swing. Forward press is for golfers that really rotate their bodies thru impact i.e. Dustin and Collin. As for taking the club inside, again you are not rotating your body/shoulders correctly. You are using your arms. Although, I agree somewhat with Mr. ShortGames drill for this, the real fix is to make sure your shoulders are rotating correctly. The shoulders should get closer to the ground each way. So on your backswing the lead shoulder will feel as it is really coming under you and the shaft will feel like it is coming to the inside, but in reality because of your spine angle the club is rotating up/under you, which is keeping on plane. But I get it.... everyone is different when it comes to flexibility, mobility, athleticism, experience, etc.....

What are your thoughts on beginners using a driver, given that it's the hardest to hit? Should they not use a 3 wood until they are good with that?
@GHOSTOFEIGHT2 жыл бұрын
Worst mistakes golfers make with their tee shots. 1. Constantly watching golf tip KZbin videos and thinking they're going to somehow find the magic sauce that makes them better than horrible without even understanding the basics of golf that leads to them constantly changing their swings based on the advice of KZbinrs which subsequently never yields consistent results which creates this loop to go on forever. 2. Living run on sentence comments on KZbin videos instead of practicing.

The tee shot is my downfall. That whole "drive for show, putt for dough" is BS. My handicap is in the high teens because I hit 3-4 bad tee shots a round, which costs me 6-9 strokes. Hitting three of the tee a couple of times a round is a murder. BTW, congrats on 300K Subs!

That was an interesting list. On your #3 you need to remember that some people aren't looking to hit up on the ball. That whole positive angle of attack thing started back in the late 90's when technology was giving people just enough information to ruin their swing. I only hit up on drives about 75% of the time. You kind of lost me on #5. Bring the ball about 6 inches back toward center, lower the tee to account for lower center of club face at that position of the swing, and swing like normal to take loft out of the shot. Good for dry fairways and windy days. Also my #1 thing I see people doing wrong is starting the swing below the elbow due to being tense. Start the swing with your core, and let it rip!
