The last couple years in FL we couldn't wait to move due to tourist traffic & the humidity. After being away for about 3 yrs, we miss it, so much, & are trying to get orders to Macdill.

Just being able to see what you guys are paying for homeowners, water, electric, etc has made us feel confident in our move. I just moved here from Louisville ky after vacationing in cwb for years. My honest opinion is location is EVERYTHING. I ended up in New Port Richey and it honestly made me regret my move 10000% percent. The rent is cheaper in NPR but there's a reason for that... Do not move here without doing your due diligence and research the area of town you're in....I'll be heading back to KY at the end of my lease because FL daily living is not the same as fl vacationing....

I moved to Central Florida (Kissimmee) in 2002 from New Jersey to wrestle alligators. I did. For 6 years. After that I wanted to move back up north. I missed it terribly. Missed the seasons, mountains, etc. By that point however, I was married to a Florida native. Fast forward 18 years and we’ve thought about moving still. Fl has gotten too hot, too expensive, too crowded, and on and on. However, anytime we’ve gone looking at another state, we just can’t find another “home”, which is what Florida has become. We’ve put down roots in S. Lake County, grown a family here, have a support system. Family and friends all are in Central Florida and all my northern friends visit the state at one point or another. We have come to realize this is our home. For all its quirks, all its flaws, all the weirdness, for all the hot weather and mosquitoes, this is still our home, and nothing else compares. We love living here.

It has become expensive to live there so visiting is the perfect option! Home prices have become exorbitant for the average American, so sell now while you can make top dollar! Affluent people are not affected by the price change down there and they are still buying... Otherwise, toughen up say your prayers and get use to the weather and bugs from May through October! If you can make 100k or more in income a year and you just want to relocate to Florida here are the best places. They are very costly, but if lifestyle is your thing and strong access to good food and great weather and activities is what you want, then I suggest: Miami (south florida areas specifically Miami-Dade County) Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Brickell, Key Biscayne, Kendall, Dadeland, or Doral. If you want to go a little north then do Tamarac, Hallandale Beach, Cooper City, Naples, and some areas in Fort Lauderdale which would be drifting into Broward County. If you want to do Tampa, check out the areas of Westchase, Wesley Chapel, Tampa Bay or Downton Tampa areas to my understanding. These areas are safe and offer great opportunities. But again, these areas are on for upper middle class to Richie rich kind of people who can pull in either multiple streams of income or are hitting that mark I stated above. I have no kids, and little debt and I still would have to make over 65K a year just to maintain paying my bills and groceries only. Just for the context of how expensive Florida really is.

Things people don’t realize when moving here is what the day to day is going to look like. They don’t realize how absolutely grating the traffic and road aggression gets. They don’t realize how their electric bill will probably double. How Duke has a strangle hold on so many areas and their pricing is vastly more than other energy companies. How expensive water is. How Florida requires year round lawn care. How expensive auto and home insurance have gotten and they keep going up. Also, how Florida notoriously does not fund schools and they are low on quality of education. We live in Pasco and our son has special education needs that DO NOT get met. Even Pinellas county and Dunedin schools are not ranked very well. There are a lot of cons.

Plan B is The Villages in FL, or perhaps On Top of the World (OTOW) -- both being 55+ communities (no, I don't mind living in "The Bubble"). Plan C is to just stay here in West TX (WAY cheaper, even now!). I hope in due time the housing scene in most places in America is more a Buyer's Market than Seller's so we who are waiting to buy (and need to carry a mortgage, not "rich people" paying in cash up front) -- especially First Time Buyers -- are more likely to find something more affordable. Sorry Sellers... ;-) -- BR

I was born in the Tampa Bay area 60 years ago (Clearwater). I would be born here again.😂

I heard Tampa has missed many hurricanes 🌀. Some believe it's because of Indians protecting the land. I was wondering, in the 5 years you've lived there, have you experienced any scary storms?
@trulivingtampa7 ай бұрын
Yes. Hurricane Ian and Idalia we both a little scary, but we we're basically unscathed.

This is a great report. I’m confused……you moved from Detroit but I sense some Carolina roots because the word “y’all” rolls off your tongue so easily. Ha. I’m from North Carolina and most folks in our neighborhood here in West Central Florida have migrated down from up north and no one in the neighborhood other than me uses the phrase “y’all”. So you have a lot of influences it seems.

They must have long time Floridans in their area. Tampa people can be southern depending on where you at. My buddy is a Tampa native and have a southern accent and use southern lingo.

Tampa and Florida for that matter has gone downhill in the last 4 to 5 years because of the influx of people from out of state…too much traffic, rude people crime ridden it’s hotter now than it’s ever been due to overpopulation and overdevelopment and destroying forest and creating a concrete jungle. For those of you who have only been here the last four or five years you think it’s wonderful but you’ve ruined it compared to how it was 10-15 years ago. You’ve brought your terrible driving and horrible attitudes and ruined a easy going southern state.

Comments like this are so interesting. I'm always fascinated by how many people allow others to steal their joy. As someone who has spent the last three years documenting the area, interviewing locals, meeting people from all over the state and county, and helping families relocate to this beautiful area, in my experience, your comment couldn't be further from the truth. The people I've met over the last three years have been incredibly welcoming. Most have moved here to increase their quality of life and brought that attitude with them. “The people from out of state” have brought a ton of value to the area. Our tax dollars are being used to build new and better schools, road projects, and update outaded infrastructure. Moving Florida from one of the worst in education to bring ranked FRIST in the nantion. While I can appreciate your love for your home state, and the past, yiur generalization is off-base. When you step out from behind your keyboard and get into the community with the people, your argument doesn't hold up. Figting for the past dosen’t make it better, just old news. If you want a “better Florida” get invloved.

I live in the Tampa area with a pool house too and my bills are nowhere near what you pay. Wow! Appreciate the information, but for those out there wanting to move to the area it doesn't have to be that expensive. There are two of us and a cat. 1975 sq ft

I could never move to Florida due to your governor and legislature. It is nauseating enough from a distance; it would be full-on incapacitation if I lived there.

Just remember cancer doesn't care how much Organic food you eat or how many miles you run. Life too short don't live on grass. Sorry I have a issue with you people talk about putting healthy things in your body. What you think is healthy is what someone told you was healthy.

While I appreciate your opinion, if I can buy a single-day longer with my family, I'll do whatever I can to earn it. It’s all in God’s hands and the end of the day, but it’s up to me to work for it.
