The saddest part about Maya's story, is that every time something bad happened, her friends expected her to get over it within a few days. This led her to separate herself from the group, which probably led her down the path of feeling socially disconnected and trapped in her own thoughts.

Bittersweet Symphony is on on a decently sized list of episodes I dread rewatching because of how much it masterfully yanks at my heart. I'm glad you brought up how his death affected Maya throughout the rest of her time on the show. Too many assume that when she acts out, it's just Maya being annoying without really questioning why she's taking these actions. It's for the better that they went through with Cam's story. It added sooo much to everyone involved and further explores a topic that we tend to shy away from yet is unavoidable.

I can’t believe it’s been 5 years! That’s insane. I think about this storyline constantly still. Cam quickly became a favorite character of mine. As someone who struggles with depression, I saw a lot of myself in the way Cam acted and his death was something I didn’t see coming. I’m happy that Degrassi let that storyline continue in the background through NC. Really shows the long term affect suicide can have on loved ones.

Emily Rose Erwin I completely agree. I also struggle with depression and it is something that can be hard to understand if you don’t struggle as well. I really like how the show transformed maya into someone who also almost committed suicide because when she was with Cam, she didn’t fully understand him when he said he felt sad all the time. Now she has evolved to that place where she can truly understand him but know that killing yourself is never the answer. While she will always wonder what could have been if Cam hadn’t died, all she can do is be happy with what is right in front of her

I've been watching this show for 12-13 years and I don't think any episode ever affected me like this one. for months after it aired Cam would pop into my head randomly and I'd immediately go into a funk. people don't always understand why I'm in my mid 20s and still love this show as much as I did in middle school, but Degrassi tells beautiful and real stories that resonated with me through my teenage years and into adulthood. I'll forever have love for these characters and stories. praying and hoping for next class season 5! 🙏🏾

Then there was a gap from when they stopped airing here, so I went out searching for them a couple of years later as I missed the characters. I now own the first 5 seasons on DVD (they're the only ones available here)

This episode saved my life. I was thinking about suicide ( It started at a young age) but when I saw this episode, I saw the ripple effect and if I did do I was not only hurting myself. This episode at least stopped me from thinking about it long enough to get help, and start living my life. I’m still battling depression, but it is not as bad as it was before, and I’m glad that this show can connect with people at any age.

I began watching Next Generation after Next Class, around 6 months ago. I started at S12 because that's where the senior class of NC started off. That being said I knew Cam's fate from the beginning. However, even still Cam's death was so hard on me. I even knew exactly when we would see him for the last time and even still I found myself procrastinating on watching Bitter Sweet Symphony Part 2 for days because I wasn't ready to let him go. He's such an amazing character. I honestly think that him and Maya would have stayed together throughout Next Class if he was with us today.

Omg..I was near the end of highschool when this episode aired and now I'm in my last semester of college. It's funny how it seems like the older I get, the more I relate to the storylines even though I've already aged beyond the characters. Degrassi is such a meaningful show and this episode is definitely one of the best and most well-done.

It is so incrdiablty unbeliveable that Bitter Sweet Symphay airs five years ago. I was in 8th grade when it aired, and now I am a freshman in college. That storyline colored so much of Degrassi's narrtive over those years, but it also colored my adolencence years. I became who I am today watching Maya deal with the pain, having Cam's sudicide in the back of my mind everytime a freind of mine confited in me about the probelms they were dealign with. I love Degrassi so much becuase it chnages the lives of the young people that watch it. I have no doubt in my mind that this storyline saved people's lives.

degrassi has its weird moments, but I can't deny bittersweet symphony was one of their best-written episodes. They tackled the subject of suicide much better in 2 episodes than 13RW ever did in the entire 4 seasons.

This episode messed me up. There were other really sad episodes but I was an adult when I watched this ep and I actually saw this coming. All the warning signs were there in the episodes leading up to Cam's suicide and I remember feeling so helpless. The night it aired, they played the special psa before the episode and I just started to sob before anything happened.

I mean, I didn't know Degrassi existed 5 years ago, I've started watching it two or three years ago, but after watching Cam's Storyline and compare it to other suicide storylines from other shows (Coff coff 13RW is shit 'cause it romantizes and glamorizes too much everything that happens in that crap series) I realised that it hurts so freaking bad to have lost such an amazing character ...

I personally felt Cam needed to be on the show longer before this episode. It was an important issue to portray, but he was only on the show for a little over half a season, so we as an audience didn't have the time to develop the kind of interest in him that you needed for this storyline to have the widest impact. Not to mention that his character wasn't fleshed out enough. I think if they had him on for a full season before leading down the path of suicide, it would have had full impact. That's why, for me, Adam and JT's deaths hit harder. In saying that, though, the show did a great job in the aftermath Cam's death and bringing the affects of it right into Next Class.

For those mourning the loss of degrassi (I know it's not cancelled but there haven't been updates in forever) get KZbin red. It's 10 bucks a month and I'm not being endorsed for this. Now download the first season of youth and consequences that just came out. It's the first show I've found ever that's as captivating and deals with a ton of issues and shows that even the most hated character has a deeper and loving side till I found this show. The first episode (two parter) alone deals with cheating, death by autoerotic asphyxiation, random pairings of people you would never expect to be friends, tons of enemies with certain back stories in future episodes, social media influence on current teens, divorce, gender fluid and transgender issues, and a character you assumed you should dislike actually being awesome while still having a degrassi teen feel and not feeling super heavy.

But I will love to see Degassi Address another Suicide line on Cyber Bullying and on LGBT 🏳️‍🌈 Youth it really getting really bad out there and I will love how to see how Degassi Address the issue in the characters eyes 👀 and why they feel and their depression point of why they the character kill him/her self that is a really Issue to address and Educate the youth and Adults

Number two when did Degrassee junior high in Degrassi high merge in TNG and when did Degrassi high just become high school there was no mention of it just being a 4 year school or I’m confused lol.
