I love the way you put this! I used minimalism/cleaning my home as a serious part of recovering from a 4 year long chronic illness (where I physically could not take care of my home). Honestly, I think it helped me get my physical stamina back and it really helped me get my mental health back where it needed to be! Who would have thought cleaning/decluttering would be so healing, but it is!! ❤️❤️❤️ As always, love your Sunday specials!

I got tired of tripping over "stuff". Stuff from our house (we downsized to a one bedroom apartment), stuff from my mother's house (she passed a year and a half ago). With that said, I made a list of every cabinet, every drawer, every shelf, etc... I took before pictures and now I'm decluttering, organizing, and cleaning all at once. As a long-distance grandma, it is fun and easy to express affection and feel connected to our grandchildren who we rarely get to see by buying little things for them that we think they would like. It came as quite a blow when our daughter-in-law asked us to stop. With four kids, I totally understand why she did. We are trying to help her maintain order in her house and move our grandchildren away from materialism by giving experience gifts now like family ice skating passes or consumable gifts like special sidewalk chalk.

Hi Dawn, I've always lived a simplified life and experience all the great benefits daily like you've mentioned. I just don't know how to explain things quite the way you do. I'm practically a single mom to 5 boys ages 11-4 but I can tackle on challenges that come in daily with my kids/family all while staying on top of my household due to having a simplified life. The first video I watched was your house tour with Tom, I found myself drawn to your contagious smile. Since subscribing (2weeks ago), I've already improved in areas of my life that I needed a little help with. 1. I've Incorporated the "10minutes together" time with each of my kids at night (feels amazing bc 10 minutes is so doable) 2. I've started doing the "15minute walk" at home 3. I made the diy canvas with mod posh from dollartree with pictures of my children and made a family collage with it 4. I went out to Goodwill and bought myself a Bundt cake pan and a cake stand (since you've raved about Bundt cakes often) ... although I haven't quite perfect mines yet..but I plan on making homemade cakes from now on 5.I plan to get some toys you have recommended in the past videos for my kids 6. I plan to incorporate the craft desk like yours for my kids in the near future. THANK YOU SO much for all the efforts you take into making your videos. Just in the span of two weeks of subscribing, I've already made improvements in my life with my kids. Love from Southern California 💙

The new idea that shook me was in Bea Johnson's book "zero waste home": when we have 'more' than we use, need, love, we are keeping resources from circulating. We are withholding goods from our conmunity, people who would actually use that "extra" crockpot, sweater, sheet set, whatever. So in a way our holding onto things is causing others to suffer. Now my passive action of keeping things on shelves somewhere and unused becomes a negative action against people I don't know or who may live next door. Something I have never intended or wished.

@@fkhg1 Just a kindly meant question. Do you feel offended when they share their minimalism journey? We all share things because we value the difference it makes in our lives. The same is true of faith. The problem I guess is when the people that are sharing are not sensitive to the fact that the people they're sharing with aren't interested. And they can't know that because you aren't in the room with them. I guess Diana reaching for her bible is your queue to stop listening.

I have loved this journey of minimalism since I started last year. I no longer want to bring items into the house and think twice before a purchase. However, my daughter who basically always got the things that she wanted throughout her 27 years finds this lifestyle more of a struggle for her. She is finally seeing the light...But I wish I had known the minimalist way of life when she was younger( like your children) so that entitlement type behavior didn’t exist with many from her generation. She is getting better and more aware of purchases and budgeting etc.. But I do see many adults of her age that are completely clueless. You bringing together everyday life and the Bible makes this truly a great channel. Love you both and what you bring to KZbin.❤️

I have known about minimalism for a long time and have been very slowly simplifying. I've been following you for over a year and doing some of the work. I was making a huge mistake in not taking the things out if the house right away... I'm realizing that it was mostly due to anxiety (about a multitude of things!). There is so much sitting in our garage and basement that needs to go! I am sick of the mess and the added anxiety that comes from it. Recently, we found out we are expecting our 3rd child. Since I found out I have been working tirelessly to get the stuff out. It's a lot of work (physically and emotionally) but I know it will be worth it. I'm going to be playing your videos all day today for inspiration. I have a kid free/ husband free couple of days to get some of it done! Thank you for all you do! Peace and love ❤️

Thank you for your Sunday morning message. My decluttering process has been slow but I am committed to get this done. I've slowly been going through my closet and donating items I haven't worn. But this past week I really dug into it... anything I didn't feel my best in I donated! The major contributing factor is I have lost 45 lbs in the last 18 months. It's frustrating because some of the items had only been worn a few times so you then feel guilty about the money spent. The secret though is to get the items out the door and to donation ASAP. Thanks to you I'm now starting to look at items in my kitchen differently so I will be attacking that area next. See you next Sunday.

Angela, I too lost weight and had a closet full of clothes I could not wear. I trained myself to not think about "the money I wasted". Instead I told myself it was a "blessing to some woman who actually needed it." This also helped my grandchildren part with things that no longer fit/they didn't use at my house. We didn't "get rid of it". We "passed it along to someone who would use it."

One thing the minimal mindset made me realize is that I shouldn't spend any money redecorating or renovating a room until I declutter it and maintain it in the decluttered state for a while. By doing this, I have discovered that I only need a fraction of the storage space, which makes my designs simpler and cheaper, which usually translates into getting it done sooner than later. 😃 For me, this is most evident in my sewing room and the kitchen. Both are good sized rooms, which have the space to hold lots of storage. But since working to get rid of all the things I truly don't need or care about, I realized I don't need nearly that much storage space at all!

KZbin suggested one of your videos to me weeks ago, and I was so encouraged and motivated that I began the decluttering process, with aspirations of becoming a casual minimalist😉. In the past few weeks I have donated about a dozen large boxes of items, thrown away several garbage bags full, and feel so excited not to he weighed down by “stuff!” I am also a homeschool mom, so in the mornings when my kids and I have table time, we have done the 5 minute challenge where we each try to find 3 things to get rid of in 5 minutes. And we’ve always found more than 3! This is a purposeful and rewarding journey, and I am so thankful I found your channel!

Dawn, you are truly an inspiration to me! I've been married 33 years so that's 33 years of accumulating stuff! I so desperately needed to follow this method when my children were small. It was always a struggle for them to clean their rooms or put away their toys, etc. I would threaten that I would quarantine their toys if they didn't put them away and honestly, they didn't care! They had way too many toys and way too many clothes that I can't imagine what it must've been like for them to have all that clutter in their brains with too many choices to make. I honestly can see how less is more and how much happier we all would've been! So now, my daughter comes over to help me declutter room by room and it has been a long process (Both my husband and I sometimes resist with certain items) but the result of having more space is so freeing! I enjoy all your videos and love when Diana joins you and ends with scripture and prayer. May God continue to bless you both and use you to bless others the way you have blessed me. ❤

I started to declutter around 4 months ago and have seen quite some progress. I have a toddler and a newborn. Today, my husband was in bed most of the day with a migraine. Even though I'm absolutely no minimalist, I managed to take care of them, play outside, keep up with the mess two kids leave behind and stay sane all on my own. Having decluttered and organized a lot, cleaning behind ourselves was so much easier than before! Thank you for your videos, I always listen to them while cleaning.

Love your sister Sunday and bringing us to see the spiritual side as well. In June I will be a year on this journey of minimalist lifestyle...I will be the first to admit there is still room to keep peeling back the layers of “stuff” sitting around but certain friends have started saying they want a peaceful house like mine. And it is becoming easier to saying “no thank you” when people offer me items I know I don’t need! Have a blessed day!

Thank you for all the advice, ideas and encouragement you keep passing along to all of us. This life changing decision is a lot harder than expected. But so grateful to be doing it. I keep looking forward to when it's all done. My daughter and I are just starting to clean everything out.Our daughter and 2 grandchildren just moved in with us and space is a premium we don't have. The crafts room is now in boxes stacked up everywhere. No garage and a very small shed is what we have to work with. My daughter has gotten rid of almost everything she owns and when she moves out she plans on being a minimalist. I've been watching you for a few years now and looking forward to having the peace in my life like you have now. When going through all of this stuff, I pray for the lord to help me because I can't do this by myself, and to let me know what to pass on and what to keep. This has been a great help for me. Love you guys so much.

Hey, I saw your sweet message.🙂 It's fun encouraging each other, isn't it? I wanted to share with you, that if you've accepted CHRIST as your SAVIOR...you are HIS child for all eternity. JOHN 10:27-30..talks about 'once we're HIS child', "no man is able to pluck them out of the FATHER'S HAND". We still sin...but we can come to HIM and ask for HIS forgiveness.. and, HE freely gives it. 1 JOHN 1:9❤

I only recently subscribed to your channel and have watched just a few videos to help me get started with decluttering. I have to say that today’s video was so helpful. I LOVE that you tied God’s word into it. It helped me realize that I need the simplicity of a minimalistic lifestyle so I can focus on what’s most important- sharing the love of Christ with my family, friends and community. I won’t invite people over because I don’t want them to see the mess I live in! And I feel like a horrible mom bc now my kids are messy too. I’m going to do what you recommend (peel the onion) and go around the house, room by room with the box to put things to donate and a garbage bag to put things to throw out. It’s simple and easy. I’m also going to challenge myself to do a little each day as well as read the Bible daily! Thank you for this video. I know it sounds “corny” but I was feeling down with myself today and now I feel like I can get a handle on this! Thank you for sharing from your heart. Be blessed!

Such an amazing message, thank you ❤ We are still in the decluttering stages but have made incredible progress and it brings so much peace to our home. A neighbor stopped by unexpectedly last week and I wasn't mortified at the condition of our home, it was such a wonderful feeling to just go to the door and not feel that I had say please excuse the messes. The mental toll that clutter has is unimaginable, I pray that everyone can see the way to this way of living. The concept of having more capacity is such a great way of describing how much you can have room for in your life once you unbury yourself, your family amd your home from the "stuff" that is burdening us. Thank you for encouraging so many of us, sharing your story, sharing His word!! ❤🙏❤
