I have had a Griso for 10 years ... I also went on the track with great satisfaction, I slowly learned to do more or less ordinary maintenance on it and now at 65K km I wouldn't change it with any other bike. I am in love with this piece of iron!

I have a V7 850 Special (Not a 1200 Griso.) but I can completely agree with you on your comments. The air filter thing is a good one. A stock air filter flows plenty of air and only cost a few pounds, "When you need to change it." I've just checked in there on my bike as it is a year old and there is NO DUST whatsoever! The oil levels on most Moto Guzzi are very critical and "less is better" than too much. The simple design of these engines is their strength and gives them good reliability.

My 1100 Griso is the best all-round Guzzi I have owned, it kind of combined the best atibutes of my prior guzzi's. I did 3 mods. 1. LED headlight lamp and LED hi and low driving / flood lights. 2. Carbon fibre slip on that was designed and tuned for the 1100i. 3 found a set of tyres that suited my riding style and the bikes handling. I was warned to not use any non genuine air filters including oil type like k&n Negitives 1. I am 6'1 and found that I was a bit cramped. More peg room needed 2. Watch the rear brake....it can be easily and unintentionally locked under hard breaking. Finding less aggressive pads helped. When riding with a group, on straights and open corners, the griso didn't have the proformance (although still very acceptable). in the tight twisties, I could out corner and out torque many more modern machines. Best parts about owing griso, people think it is a relatively new bike, not a 2006 as they are one of the most unique production bikes ever made with a ageless style. Unfortunately it was completely submerged in the recent floods in north NSW. RIP 🙏 to my faithful Griso. Hard part is finding a new one.

Like he said, keep the bike standard (original) Aftermarket air filter has done damage to his engine with dirt in the air box. Removing original muffler for aftermarket changes the exhaust back pressure and makes it run worse. So now he gets a power commander to fix a problem he created. I own a 91 Moto Guzzi 1000 and a 2008 Kawasaki Concours I bought both new and still have them. Everything is 100% factory OEM original parts on both bikes. I do maintenance only and don’t try to modify anything. Leave it alone, and it will leave you alone. Mess with it, and it will mess with you big time.

Just curious why you would pick a Suzuki Vstrom for a touring bike where you could also chose another guzzi like the Norge or Stelvio 1200. Could you clarify?
@markclark72732 ай бұрын
I have a Stelvio which has the same engine and it seized up on the M1 at 21,000 miles. It was the plastic oil pump gear which became loose on its metal center, twisted and stripped its teeth. I didn't notice the warning on the screen as it was early morning with low sun and the screen is almost impossible to see in those conditions. It cost me nearly £1000 for a used crankshaft from Germany plus a few gaskets and seals, and a new clutch while the engine was out, I did the work myself. This destroyed my faith in Guzzis but the repairs worked and 12,000 miles on I still have the bike as I love it and can't find anything I want to change it for. It took a year for me to stop looking for dire warnings on the display every 10 seconds, now I just ride and enjoy it. It was interesting to hear about the mess in the throttle bodies as I have had poor fueling recently, injector cleaner did not help and its erratic, some days are good, some bad but it usually clears after aboput 15 minutes. Maybe I need a throttle body strip. Thanks for a most informative and helpful video. Mark, UK.

@markclark72732 ай бұрын
I am not sure about the new Stelvio, I don't think the Mandello engine suits an adventure bike but i do need to book myself in with my dealer for a test ride at some point. More than about 90bhp is too much and makes the bike a handful to ride and not so good at town speeds, the old Stelvio is borderline in this area.

Good all round comments , i have a Sport with the same engine and have done the same miles as you.It's been the most reliable bike i've had with only a few niggles. I converted to roller tappets at 20k, there was minimum wear. I run it with stock air filter with the intake snorkel removed, Gpr can and Mistral collector without cat. I remapped it the same as you with help from Beetle, only fiddly bit was setting the Co trims. I balance the throttle bodies with a Morgan carb tune now and again. It has more than enough power and i have hard luggage for touring. I fitted a Stelvio shock to increase ground clearance as it's easy to grind the pegs. I had an 1100 Griso before but found it hard for long distance as i'm quite tall, plus the 8v engine is much better.

Hi, cool long term review. I'm a guzzi fan myself. About the airfilter, on my V7 I use filters from the brand Hiflo, these are brilliant. They have better flow then stock, but still catch the same amount of rubish. The washable filters mostly work but sometimes they are cleaned wrong, never clean them with air. the little cotton mesh will start to allign and so it will not filter anymore.

So I bought a Griso with 2000 miles on it. The cam followers went twice the seal leaked behind the clutch at 3000 kilometers. The speedo was steaming up. So I sold it. However it was a great bike and if Motoguzzi UK had been even slightly helpful I would have kept it. Interesting series of videos. A few things that leave me a bit confused in some of them but there ya go. What made you think the clutch needed a new plate at such a low mileage? Did you try adjusting the length of the plunger on the handlebar lever prior to swapping the plate? There was a run of dodgy plates in the 2012/early '13 period but generally the clutches last well I've had several still working fine at 200,000km. I'm assuming the oil pump gear was showing some sort of damage other than discolouration? Good catch on that, I probably wouldn't of found it simply because if I was doing a clutch I wouldn't of gone about it in such a bizarre and labour intensive way but everyone has their own way of doing things. Doing it the way it was done of course means that the swingarm stayed in the frame so I hope the bearings of both the swingarm and shock linkage have been addressed previously? If the CARC bikes have one Achilles Heel, (Flat tappet fiasco excepted.) it's the swingarm bearings and shock linkage. My 2008 8V is close to 140,000 km now. Apart from the flat tappets destroying the first motor and regular maintenance the thing is reliable as an anvil. After 40 years of working on Guzzis it's sort of what I expect. Your problems seem odd at such a low mileage.

Was the air filter a K&N filter? if so slightly worrying as I'm about to replace my fuel tank on my Bellagio for a V7 one and this can't happen without removing the air filter box and fitting K&N pod filters. I agree that keeping parts stock is probably safer but I really prefer the V7 tank look. I agree that these Moto Guzzi engines are really strong, it's just silly little things that let them down, for me it was the internal fuel hose splitting inside the fuel tank and the oil filter vibrating lose causing low oil pressure that has caused me to need the recovery service. Still love my Guzzi and will never sell it, so I guess you just forget these things and enjoy the ride.

Hello! You will need the adapter to load the map and a laptop with Guzzi Diag, and the map itself

How did you raise the rear shock height? I can't see an adjustment nut.
@TYPE1media3 жыл бұрын
You need to adjust the preload by using a C-spanner, loosen the top ring and then compress the spring by tightening the lower ring, after that re tight the top ring. If they’re hard to release you can try gently with a big flat screwdriver and rubber hammer
@akshayd823 жыл бұрын
@@TYPE1media ah the preload way. I thought there was a separate ride height adjustment! Also for the front fork, it is the 2nd ring or two full band that need to be visible?

@@akshayd82 correct and for the front if I remember correctly (my bike is still at the shop so can’t check) it’s full bands i think, so one down from factory settings I believe

Hey Glenn, thanks for the suggestion. Without doubt the Griso is better 🙂 I was thinking about the Vstrom in case I do more touring cause they’re reliable and comfy for long distances.. I do 4000/5000 miles round trips in summer normally. And I love the Griso but at 40+ thousand miles I don’t know how many more summers I can trust it if you know what I mean

I discovered over 20 years ago these garbage fictional hi flow air filter that let dirt into your engine. Dynoed a ferrari 308 qv 20 minutes apart, lost 5 bhp on a K&N. I always say go on a diet first, loose 5kg body weight, cheaper and healthier than a junk filter if your qualifying for grid position in a race its a different story.

Thsts an oxymoron surely?..compare this to any japanesel bike, it sounds like a nightmare..im not trying to be mean ..but you have after this put me off these machines..perhaps sadly,.. completely.
@TYPE1media Жыл бұрын
If you watched properly and be knowledgable about Guzzi you will know that the only reason I had to do all the maintenance is because I’ve messed with it myself. As said in the video, keep the bike stock, do the regular services and you’ll have 0 problems. Enjoy

You throttle body full of crap coz the 1200 has a fuel evaporation canister which feeds crap back in... you can remove it.. the 1100 doesn't have that. The k&n filter is great Owned my 2008 1100 for 14 years.. and I'm still in love with it... The toughest most robust bike ever made.... way better and more reliability than any BMW ever made... Only a few minor issues

Paper filters cannot be bettered these K&N things are a scam.
@GIGABACHI7 ай бұрын
"Paper filters cannot be bettered". If you are looking for maximum dirt filtration and engine longevity, stick ONLY to paper element. All other filters are not filtering all it should. I had K&N air filters on different vehicles for 20 years and saw all the crap that made it past the "filter" and into the ducting before the throttle body. Not worth it. 💩👎
