I was riding my handsomely restored 1978 Honda GL-1000 (Blue w/ matching Vetter Windjammer) a few weeks ago across a bridge in Boerne, TX. Boerne is a very small sown west of San Antonio. So I'm cruising across the bridge on HWY 46 above IH-0 West, and coming the other way in the opposite lane was this same Moto Guzzi, same model, color etc. It was so cool to see those two bikes side by side, going in different directions. The MG was headed across the bridge into the small town of Boerne, and the GL was headed out into the hill country for 250 miles of speedy Sunday cruising. We nodded at each other and carried on. I loved that MG the way I loved the first GL I bought as a kid in 1979, a sulfur yellow '76. Some bikes are just born special, and the Griso and the Gen 1 Gold Wing are two of them.

I bought a Yamaha Super Tenere instead. Not as sexy, but it works. Back around when the Stelvio first came out, there was a shoot out between all of the adventure bikes. The Stelvio surprised everybody at its highway AND off road capability. Plus it was the only bike with an 8 gallon tank.

The Griso has always been one of the best looking made. The versions with the 8V motor are the best. Not even sure if they will continue this bike any longer, but would be perfect as a 2nd or 3rd bike. Sweet bike , I baught a 2003 California Stone Touring back in 2005 , love the Bike , enjoy riding it but it's been down for a while , I didn't know when I purchased it that there was a defect with the single disc clutch , and the dealership that sold it to me didn't let me know about it , it road and shifted fine at the time , if he would have told me I would have had them put a new clutch in , but by the time the clutch started having issues the dealership had went out of business . I talked to several places that sell parts and found them to be proud of their parts , I was told by one that the clutch would cost $1,600 then another said $1,700 and another in Ohio told me $5,000 . So the Bike has sat for quite a while , and everytime I came close to getting the money together , something always came up and I couldn't get it , then after giving up on it for a while because of financial issues , one day I started to look again , found one on eBay , for $865.00 got it shipped to my door for $895.00 finally found an honest dealer . Unfortunately I have yet to install it , with work and family it's just difficult to make the time to fix it , but last August I baught a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 out of necessity , but I really need to get my Bike back on the road because diesel fuel is kinda pricey .. my wife has tried to get me to sell it for years but I'm stubborn and not a quiter .. lol . Great video and God Bless , oh by the way my first Moto Guzzi was a 750 Breva , everyone thought it was a Buell , but it was a great Bike .

If you are curious about the meaning of Moto Guzzi's names, here are a few. "Audace" means "brave", literally "the daring one". It is a slightly obsolete word, with a "classic" gist. There _might_ me a reference to "Gli Audaci", a special forces unit in Fascist times, but I am not sure that was actually Moto Guzzi's intention. "Stelvio" is the name of a mountain pass in the Italian Alps, and the _extremely_ spectacular road leading up to it. There are many YT video showing it. "Norge" is Norwegian for "Norway". In the early days of Moto Guzzi, they decided to drive one of their bike from lake Como to Cape North. This was in the early 20s, so it was quite the enterprise. The success of the trip helped estabilish Moto Guzzi's brand. The modern days Norge nords to the legendary enterprise of the early days. What else? "Breva" is the name of a strong wind regularly blowing on lake Como. "Griso", or "the grey one", as you correctly pointed out, is one of the main characters in "The Bethrotal". "California", "Nevada" and "Florida", with obvious reference to US States, are the names of a series of bikes from the 70s. Hope this satisfies someone's curiosity! Ah, one last detail: the correct way to pronounce the brand's name is approx GOO-TSEE. The _zz_ in Guzzi sounds exactly like it does in PIZZA ;-) .

used to own a completely original Griso 8v white version. The early ones had issues that were later resolved. It is the most beautiful bike I have owned and I doubt that I can get something prettier, specially at this price point. Interesting to note that even though I love it, it performed amazingly well on twysties but on longer runs on the motorway for example it became boring and actually quite unconfortable (for me at least). I have ridden other motorbikes like the V9 roamer, V85TT and V7 II, III and V850 and those were more refined. Still, it is a proper motorcycle, One of the greatest street bikes.

Word of warning. There are two Griso models. The 1100 from 2005 is bomb proof and a safe buy. The 1200 8v version as featured here came out in 2007 and had major top end problems. They would fail catastrophically and it wasn't a question of if, but when. Same goes for the Stelvio and Norge with the same engine. Piaggio finally admitted the problem and issued flat tappet to rollers conversion kits free to customers with full service history and at cost to everyone else. Sadly by the time this happened it was too late for many bikes that already had metal fragments floating around in the oil from a fault in the hardening process. Even after the modification the damage may already have been done. If you buy one of these from late 2012 you are safe because they sorted it out. It took 5 years but better late than never. Most Internet resources provide good information about this issue and what to look out for, the best of which I think is Guzzitech. A great bike nevertheless.

@@paultruesdale7680 That's not true. Many japanese bikes have had major issues that the manufacturers tried to cover up. In the 80s some Kawasaki's suffered carb icing that was responsible for killing some riders. Also in the 80s Honda V4's suffered catastrophic engine failures. So much so that they got nicknamed the Honda chocolate cam. You obviously haven't been riding long so I suggest you do some research before making such ignorant comments

Good news is that I bought the California on Ebay for $5,700---it was advertised at $9,000. Beautiful, powerful bike but nowhere to fix it locally when I had some minor mechanical issues. One Harley mechanic said: "I love the Guzzis but they are 'orphans' when it comes to time to service or sell them." I'd buy another one if I could find a place to service it.

My 2006 1100 griso was written off in the recent March 22 floods. Of the several guzzles I've owned, it was the best handling, all rounder. Despite its relative age, it's cornering ability easily matched much newer / current bikes. I could ride 300kms non stop noproblem. The 1100 is the last incantation of the pushrrod that goes back to the mighty le mons. Although not as raucous as the older varients, it is still definitely sounds like an guzzi should. As an owner of 2 Guzzi’s I really like torques over revs. After driving all kinds of bikes, 8 years ago I switched to Moto Guzzi. I wished I done it years and years earlier. They are not really the cheapest, but a pall for life. You can doing hours a day on these things. There are not that many Guzzi’s, so there will be a few heads turn towards you. They are rather easy to maintain by yourself.

Tried a few bikes in 30 years, but I must say the BMW K1300R is my favourite.

Now that is most definitely a work of art. Back in the early 90s had a 72 civilian when they weren’t cool.. although I thought it was cool! Wish I still had it.

Almost bought one, but the ergos just felt really weird for my 6'1" frame (the long tank probably didn't help). Great bike though.

Guzzi is one of my favorite MC manufacturers. they still make bikes in their original factory and have the only wind tunnel for testing designs. The Grisso is a phenomenal bike. I regret selling mine.

Guzzi's have long been known as one of the nicest bikes built. I've always been amazed at how rare they are.
