I once rode a 2005 motoguzzi california, i cannot describe the feeling of riding such a bike. It was simply amazing, the feel, sound and character of the bike. They are very simple motorcycles and build to last and super easy to maintain. I wish they still made models like the 2005 California, the new ones are huge, but impressive non the less.

I traded a BMW R69S (remember those) for a GUZZI V7, that, I believe was the first one retailed on the east coast. Best bike I ever had. Was stolen with something over 30,000 miles on it. Fast, always the first one to the top of the mountain.

I am a Guzzi owner myself. Have myself a MGX-21 Flying Fortress. She's a special kind of something. I rode the Griso as well when my local dealer got one and loved it and man, I really thought about the Griso. But I needing touring for my channel to carry gear and such so if my wife joined she would not have to wear the camera bags. But to me this thing was every bit as fast as my Night Rod before despite the "104" HP. It needs to be revved a bit higher and that thing just rockets. The funny thing is, the Flying Fort does that as well, and I have surprised Sportbikes, HDs who thought their Stage III kits were something, and so many others. Thing also has 37 Degree lean angles as well! Sometimes I think the darn thing can beat out my CB1100EX in speed and handling! Glad you enjoyed the Goose, wish you could have picked one of these up besides the Softail Slim.

Traded in my Griso, albeit with much regret. Wonderful motor once the revs hit 2000rpm, lurching handling below. Lots of owners have engineered tuning solutions but it is an absolute lottery getting mechanical support in Australia. Still way better than an r nine t, which ripped off a lot of Guzzi’s ideas. A real shame piaggio won’t let them develop it further.

Davyboy Colon Barely any dealer support here in the US. My closest dealer is three and a half hours away. I liked The California 1400, beautiful, comfortable, received great reviews in the bike mags but I won’t own something where I have to travel halfway across the state to have warranty work or service that I can’t perform myself done.
@rhartley24566 жыл бұрын
Davyboy Colon maybe the previous owner traded it in because despite all his efforts, the ergos were just never comfortable. The bike is rock solid and fun, and easy to maintain without the help of a dealer wrench. The previous owner traded for a MT09 I’m told.

Unbelievable, this bike is made in a factory that produces around 60 bikes a day. I'd estimate that since Guzzi produces 8 models in unique variations, they probably make 2 Griso's every work day? 520-ish a year? Very rare...

Good to see you enjoyed the Griso, a great bike. I nearly bought a used one but heard the 8 valve model had expensive problems with cam follower wear. Decided on a used Sportster 1200S instead, good choice I love it.
@TerryPorterElectronics6 жыл бұрын
The pre 2014 Guzzi eight valve engines had severe problems with the 'flat cam followers' suffering advanced wear as the DLC coating wore off and in bad cases resulted in the need for a new engine. I caught my 2008 eight valve in time and fitted a Guzzi "roller cam follower" kit (about $1700 AUD), which solves the problem. The roller cam followers came standard with post 2014 Guzzi eight valve motors I believe. The Guzzi engine is totally different to a Harley in that the Guzzi is a 1200cc overhead cam and develops peak power at 8300 rpm and up until about 6500 rpm I'm pretty sure it would feel weak compared to the Street Glide which is 1753 cc's, pushrod and has about 1.5 times the torque of the Guzzi.
@splodge576 жыл бұрын
Terry Porter thanks for the reply. Made the right decision with the Sportster, my first Harley. Had a Guzzi mk1 and mk3 Le Mans in the 80's. Rode to the factory at Mandello twice, still have a soft spot for them.

I have been preaching about what happens when you use K&N type air filters for years. The reason they can flow more air is because they are filtering it less. I had one on my Mustang that I had added a supercharger to. After using the K&N filter for a while I looked inside and all my boost pipes etc were covered in dust. So unless you are in a race application and willing to gain that flow vs filtration then stick with stock. Unless you have major engine mods changing the filter has little effect on power.
@neutronalchemist32416 жыл бұрын
You can use sprintfilter electrostatic filters. They filters more than the original cellulose filters, or oiled cotton filters, while flowing more air too.
@mikefry67656 жыл бұрын
Doug Morgan put a K&N on a Griso and you will mess the fuelling
@Doug_Morgan6 жыл бұрын
Yup, most of the bikes today come quite lean from the factory. As soon as you start messing with exhaust or more so the intake you mess up the fuelling maps and then it needs to be remapped.
@neutronalchemist32416 жыл бұрын
It's much simpler now than it was some year ago. The Griso, like most contemporary bikes, has a closed loop EFI. The lambda sensor informs the ECU if the mixture is too rich or too lean, and it adjusts it accordingly.

If you google guzzitech you will find a video of the exhaust note for the Griso. Guzzitech specializes in everything Moto Guzzi and you should be able to get a lot more power out of that engine. No offense, but you were not riding that bike correctly. It likes the RPM's well above 4000 rpms and that is where you will find all of it's hidden power and will do the quarter mile in 12 seconds or less.

Great review as always, but I noticed you didn't take the Griso above about 5 - 6 thousand rpm ? My 2008 Griso 1200 cc 8 valve definitely has 110 bhp, but it doesn't start hauling until about 6500 rpm, and pulls like a x-class loco up to the rev limiter at 8500 rpm. The Griso has a split personality! Shaun, any chance you can do the review again, and this time rev that Griso out to the limiter in all the gears and see if you notice a difference ?

In Canada there is an issue getting parts for a guzzi. My buddy has a Norge and needed an electronic component for his ignition. It took the dealer 3 months to get the part. That is unacceptable in this day and age. I really like the California but not being able to get parts for the bikes is a deal breaker
@gregorytimmons47775 жыл бұрын
On the other hand parts for decades old models can be had from Moto Guzzi. Much better than the big 4 from Japan. They want and expect to sell you a new bike every half dozen years. Order parts for Guzzi yourself on the internet from the best and biggest dealers or the factory. Your local dealer may not be the best source.
