I would reckon that bar was used to make payments for foreign operations and perhaps one of those recipients may have made their way to the US right around the time that act was repealed. It is possible an American bank or the Federal Reserve had that gold bar in their vaults. Personally I like 9 to 50 gram gold bars or coins. It is wise to stay under the $10,000 threshold when dealing with bullion metals in my opinion.

After DECADES of pondering this whole Fiat/ Gold Standard question, I have come to this Startling conclusion ( pay attention Kiddo you might learn something) Central banks, most especially our Federal Reserve, keep numerous assets on their balance sheet ( hence the name reserves) They have Gold reserves, Oil reserves, Gas reserves, Government Bonds from other countries..and more and more than is needed to collaterlize our debt..These assets collateralize our Dollar..Similar to a person owning a house or property free and clear and taking on debt...ie, a SECURED loan..Just because a government or citizen cannot redeem those dollars does not mean it is not backed ( collateralize) Nor, is it Worthless You cant show the price of gold in reference to the value of the dollar..because the gold price was FIXED (frozen) when it was money..It is now at the whim of a free floating market..open to speculation and manipulation..So, it is a POOR example The standard of living is my index, and the USA has the best standard of living EVER..people dont even have to work hard anymore..Your generation Kiddo, has the creme da la creme of Living standards compared to previous generations..This is why you have soft, pretty hands that scrape easily..QUIT Lying to people..your argument is bullshit THE DOLLAR WILL NEVER DIE..its a catch 22 to the world..AND ITS GENIUS
