I thought of another Canadian act that should have made this list: doo-wop group The Diamonds, who had 15 Billboard Top 40 hits from the 1950s to the early '60s, including "Little Darlin'" and "The Stroll". One of their founding members, Dave Somerville, co-wrote the theme song to the Lee Majors action series The Fall Guy.

Destroyer are utterly fantastic - they have been making music for about 30 years, and they have 3 or 4 albums that I consider 10/10 masterpieces, notably "Kaputt" and "Streethawk" - I guarantee that the sound of their music will not be what you expect based on the band name

In the late 70's my life revolved around going to live gigs regularly. One of these concerts was Journey, a massive band at the time but I went mainly just to see their support act: PAT TRAVERS(With the great Tommy Aldridge on drums), a fantastic Canadian guitarist blew Journey off stage that night. Why isn't this man getting the respect he deserves? Nobody here in KZbin seems to know that he exists and of course Rolling Stone haven't got a clue as usual omitting him from this list. For me, he is in the top 5 Canadians for sure, a guitar genius!

I was going through my CD collection and I found an album by a Canadian artist named Mitchell Hunter called "People Will Believe Anything If You Whisper It" from 2004. It's an excellent heavy pop album with some very serious lyrics. One song I really like is called "alien", but the whole album has a cool and sincere sound to it. The album is on Spotify, but I don't see it on KZbin. I think Mitchell is from Halifax, NS. Good, but I guess obscure. Check it out!

Quite a few names in this list were new to me, partially explained by the fact that I'm from the United States. Yet others are only names to me, like Hank Snow, a legendary contributor to country and Western, but whose actual music I don't believe I've yet encountered (Wilf Carter could have been another contender in this category). Some others, like The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, are classic bands, but not necessarily personal favorites. Some Canadian artists/ groups I especially enjoy and/or esteem, cited in alphabetical order: --Bryan Adams --April Wine --Leonard Cohen --Nelly Furtado --k.d. lang --Gordon Lightfoot --Sarah McLachlan --Joni Mitchell --Anne Murray --Rush --Strange Advance --Shania Twain --Neil Young I regret that I couldn't find room for a Francophone artist in my list. The closest example with whom I'm sufficiently familiar, Celine Dion, has one song I like a lot, "That's the Way It Is", but nary another that I regard as a favorite, and all of these are in English rather than French. Cohen of course was native to Quebec, but, to the best of my knowledge, composed consistently in English.
@barrymoore44709 ай бұрын
I realize now after scanning other comments here that Bachman-Turner Overdrive was not included in the 'Rolling Stone' list, but somehow I thought they had been. A classic band, nonetheless, and no doubt unfairly excluded.

Only Rush album I know is "A Farewell to Kings" which I think is great. Not a Brian Adams fan. Really like the 4/5 Gordon Lightfoot songs which I know. The Guess Who is not all that well known in the UK but my wife was sent a Guess Who compilation at Christmas from a friend who lives in Utah and is a huge fan. Can't fault the songs / playing / singing but I found the production a bit dated. I own a cd by a lesser known Canadian singer-songwriter called Wyckham Porteous. - "Looking for Ground" [1995].
