Plus, considering that Dragon and Fairy Type are primarily based on folklore, I doubt that anyone would have complained about a Bug weakness. Depnding on the specific fantasy world in question, fairies could be so tiny, pacifist ect. that they fill the niche of several bugs' prey within an ecosystem.

Slightly worse, imo, is that they didn't actually remove it, they just changed it to always do a static 5hp of damage, so it's basically useless. Why even bother? (Not sure if the remakes still have it or not, I didn't play those.)

I mean I kinda get it. Your starter learns its first elemental move, you use it against rival’s starter, you feel good about big damage. Compare it to say Johto where Chikorita is just tackling things most of the time, not the same sort of satisfaction you know?

Tbf I kind of see it as we’re the rivals to the “rival” characters, which makes sense in the case with Hop and Hau since they want to prove they’re going to be the best, but the idea doesn’t work with with Nemona or Shauna who are supposed to be better than us, they feel Ike they’re taking it easy on the player despite them being our rival :/ But by the end, I still agree the idea of current rivals choosing the weaker starter apart from ours is still disappointing

Shauna I get but I think the whole gimmick with Nemona is that she’s actually intentionally going easy on us or otherwise limiting herself because she’s canonically so strong that if she brought her usual team, she’d stomp the player into the dirt, so she goes with a new team and makes sure to pick the starter weak to yours so you give her a more challenging fight. She’s a battle loving adrenaline junkie after all, and the whole game she’s basically playing a challenge run to try to get you to be the one person who can make her sweat in a Pokémon battle.

I feel like it was a mistake to call PLA mainline, because fans reasonably expect that gameplay and a lot of its elements to appear in future mainline games. But I'm glad a lot of them didn't reappear fully in SV. PLA is more of a 3rd-person shooter than a turn-based RPG. It's far less about battling and gaining experience through training. It's just an option in PLA to battle for experience, and frankly, it's a far harder option. The game encourages you to play it like an action game most of the time. But SV is an open-world turn-based RPG. It's not an action game even after incorporating light action elements. They added the ability to sneak behind a Pokémon to make it a little easier to catch from PLA, and I think that's appropriate. What I did want to see though was the frostbite and drowsy mechanics return. Those made more sense in a more active game like PLA, but it would have still worked in SV. And Freeze was never a good status since it's very hard to inflict and remove. And Sleep is so broken that there are multiple rules in multiple formats restricting its use. I do hope that returns.

Honestly, the PLG graphics is the best the games ever looked, in my opinion. I skipped the games when they were initially released, but got them gifted some years later, and was really surprised by their graphics. If it weren't for the missing PvE fights and the GO style catching, they would be almost perfect remakes of Gen 1.

I'll give you 1 major downgrade you somehow skipped. Going from gen 3's battle system speed to gen 4's. It was on newer and more powerful hardware and yet the battles were still in 2D and runs slower than previously.

That is not true, they removed the phrase from box arts, but the phrase "Gotta catch em all" was used all the way up to and including gen 6 with the advertisements for each new games such as posters, and the announcement commercials such as in Diamond and Pearl, and X and Y.@@imprincesswolfy2565

7:10 Geetas biggest problem was her ace. its best used as the first Pokemon to use Hazards Plus the terra type Stone change almost nothing, that thing had a fairy moves who got wasted. The fight would definitely be better if she started with it(with terra or not) and made the Kingambit her final one, which get stronger the more pokemon are defeated.

Still salty that ash greninja was retconned. I remember being so excited using battle bond greninja in the sun and moon games, transferred it to scarlet and violet, and was immediately disappointed. I get that gamefreak wanted to distance itself from both ash and mega evolution, but they really violated my entire experience with battle bond.

The worst part about removing the PLA catching method is that this method never inherently took away the original system. You can choose to battle a Pokemon, weaken it, and then throw a Pokeball in the actual fight. That, or you could choose to skip the fight and actually interact with them in the overworld.

One of the biggest reasons why I still consider Pokemon X&Y my underrated gem is because, at the time, the 3D graphics were so different and amazing! "Oh, Nintendo used the models again? I really wish triple and rotation battle makes their comeback. People who are not in the competitive world would appreciate it. Only having TWO battle options are very limited. Since 2002 that we are having the same battle systems in the games. At least Gen 5 and 6 were the exception, but in Gen 7 we lost them. So, since 2014 we are missing a new battle way in the games.

I feel like catching pokemon in Legends Arceus seriously lowered the attachment I had to my pokemon. I felt nothing with a capture. It was like, oh my 36th Bidoof. hurray guess. I feel like the only way it could work in a normal pokemon title, is having you battle the pokemon if you fail to catch it.

Contrarily, IDC about any pokemon I catch in main series apart from the main 6 I use in a normal playthrough, any other one is just pokedex fodder. It's also a lot slower having to engage in battles and catch them the traditional way. But legends ALSO made both catching styles optional. Nothing stopped you from battling to catch a mon apart from it being the slower method. Scar/vio doesn't give you the choice, you either do it the slow traditional way, or you don't catch pokemon.

@@darcidious99 Unlike Legends Arceus, you're not supposed to catch heaps and mountains of pokemon in Scarlet and Violet, just the ones you're intrested in, or if you want to complete the dex, 1 of each. I get that the mechanic makes sense gameplay wise in that game, you don't want to need to battle every mon and watch a cutscene to catch it, if catching a lot of pokemon is the goal. But as I said, that's not the point of S&V, slowness may be annoying, but it's 10x better than feeling nothing for me.

I never cared about it making sense in the context of the game's story/atmosphere, what I cared about is that it was fun to just chuck balls and items around and stealth up on pokemon. I feel nothing catching pokemon the traditional way apart from "cool, one more in the pokedex", I'm not saying that the legends way is the best thing since sliced bread, but it's quick and has a tactile feel to aiming/throwing that battling doesn't do for me. Especially in the context of the game being a massive open world, why do i have to be restricted into a turn based battle to catch/interact with a pokemon? Why can't I bait an area with berries to draw in pokemon, or set like a trap or something to lock fast ones like varoom into place? You're still tasked with completing the pokedex, even if you only catch 1 of each species that's still 400 catches minimum, why not make it something that's fun to do? I don't think the traditional way should ever be deserted, but they definitely need to give us something else to do cause I hate it. At the very least baiting an area or something to that effect immerses me into seeing them as wild creatures, even if i have to do a turn based battle to catch the thing. Here you just walk into them... I hate it😂. At least you can throw your pokemon out manually though im glad that made it over at least, it sorta barely transfers that feeling from legends.

I can't speak on them because I stopped watching the anime a long time ago. One reason is that it's very clearly a children's anime. But I stopped watching it when I was young enough to still be in the target audience because I always found Ash annoying, so calling a change from Ash to ANYONE a downgrade rubbed me the wrong way here.

Base odd are 1/4096, using a level three sandwich can get it to 1/1024.38 but using a lv.3 sandwich, the shiny charm, and using outbreak method hunting you can shave it down to 1/512.44 odds. Not to mention outbreak hunting kinda guarantees the shiny Pokémon as long as you don't mess it up, shinies are pretty easy to get.

If you download like the two pictures of the lv 3 shiny sandwich recipes for every type you can get most stuff easily. one for increasing spawn rates for a type so you don’t always have to wait for the outbreaks, and one for increasing size in the overworld -useful to my blind 31yo ass squinting at the microscopic dreepies you can easily pick up a few even as a very casual hunter. I have maybe five or six shinies I hunted and a couple I don’t care about just from getting same type mons walk into my specific hunt location or whatever. the adhd is severe so I’ve never bothered for more than an hour or so. Most annoying part is the sandwich eating animation and the “let’s go” knock out chains needed to maximise rates without a shiny charm

A Massive Downgrade not mentioned in the video is Evolutions getting way to tedious and obscure. Galarian Farfetch to Sirfetch is so annoying and also needing Pokémon to walk a certain amount of steps and the step count can reset.

Lets be fair here, they went from making linear games on handheld consoles, to an open world game on a home console. I agree. It's a very "genwunner" sort of opinion where someone doesn't look back on what was actually in gen 1. Like, so many people hate on Klefki for being "just keys" but Voltorb and Electrode are absolutely more boring (I think Klefki is really cute and has a good inspiration). I understand some people kind of wanting the sprigatito evolutions to be quadrupedal because it seems like a lot of STARTER final evos specifically are bipedal, but I very much agree that meowscarada ended up being a cooler idea than just "plant cat".

Plus for the drummer part, it's hard to make a monkey less human looking

What annoys me is there are some upgrades as well that get me a bit excited and happy only for the overwhelming disappointment of downgrades included. SV has improved a few things my personal favorites being egg moves are transferable which lessens the pain of breeding, and tera types make for really fun interesting battles and gimmicks. Glitch issues aside post game is still dreadfully boring (hasn't been a good one since gen V in my opinion), dexit (I guess SV has an excuse now since there are visible improved texturing on pokemon but still lame not every pokemon is available.), no more battle tree/battle tower/battle maison (Would still prefer battle frontier but even this bare minimum was excluded.). I just want a pokemon game that doesn't have more downgrades compared to upgrades at this point.
