I would Love to see one for translating complex CAD models. One common issue, for instance, is the fillets are modeled in, and the vertices at those edges aren't joined. As soon as you merge by distance, your normals are Terrible. I've tried seemingly everything, and all I can do is make it Better, but never seem to fix it. So how to fix things like that, and when to just remodel a piece. Often times, something like a straight extrusion, it's easier to just delete 90% of it, and extrude in blender. I was sad, I had it work great once, so now have a script that runs through every mesh object in the scene and does a merge by distance, then switches to smooth shade and autosmooth normals with the angle you set. But on the current project I'm working on I found that it actually wasn't working quite right and you can still see normal issues. Any animators working with engineers or industrial designers would likely appreciate something around that. That would Also allow blender users to more effectively use GrabCAD for a bunch of free models.

do you cover bugs with addons like Hard Ops, BoxCutter and Decal Machine in these Videos?
@GlebAlexandrov
@GlebAlexandrov 4 жыл бұрын
Kevin, no and yes. No, because we used the vanilla Blender 2.83 (and 2.82) with only the built-in addons. Yes, because Hard Ops and Box Cutter work within the standard poly-modeling paradigm of Blender and thus their glitches are just good old topology glitches - and we covered it extensively. Does it make sense?

@mega_jc
@mega_jc 4 жыл бұрын
For certain parts of hard surface modeling, boolean operations are indispensable, since they can be an incredible time-saver, especially for carving or engraving meshes unto other meshes. Some blender addons like Boxcutter specialize in optimizing boolean-based workflows for hard surface modeling, and many boolean operations were involved in making the robot from Gleb and Aidy's Hard Surface Modeling course.

Isn´t these hellish issues often common in most 3D software, using lightwave mostly for modelling and recognize most of that as well. I can see many other things that is just of annoyance for modeling in blender vs lightwave, where it´s just more direct smoother in lightwave for those parts, and that is Specificly what I would call blender modeling hell. what is described here I feel is more, a general poly modeling hell, most may confront in most 3d packages.
@GlebAlexandrov

Fair enough.
@PrometheusPhamarus
@PrometheusPhamarus 6 ай бұрын
@@GlebAlexandrov There are also modeling hell in Lightwave of course, but ellaboration of that has been made all over the place, elsewhere. It hasn´t been updated for a long time and the new team have that planned in the next dev cycle though. right now they have focused on implementing more tools to layout, ProGeotools for similar stuff as geometric nodes in blender does, TurbulenceFD fluids for smoke fire is part of lightwave by defaul, and enhancements on VDB´s, unreal bridge, a fast liquid solver previously called UP, now implemented and is called flow, Rh Riggit now part of lightwave natively And octane is now part of Lightwave, but as their own to develop I think. And much more, but for modeling, very little, next cycle maybe. So under the core, blender more advanced for modeling purposes, and many of the modern tools are just not there in Lightwave. But it is still capable of delevering, and some things are just more direct to model within Lightwave I think.
