-The reason why people don't say hi back is because new York has so many people and a lot of weirdos that just go up to you. It's not like in small towns where everyone knows everyone. So it's just very strange for us when a stranger is like... "Oh good morning" and I'm just like "who are you??" Lol. -Also yes it is very annoying when tourists stand in the middle of the street to take pictures and stuff because that's a great way to cause a large blockage of people. And you can tell they're a tourist... Because they stand in the middle of the street. 😂 -In any case I lived here my whole life and never heard someone talk in that accent or say "im walking here!" -Idk how people could live in small suburban towns. We are masters of the elevator head nod, the gesture that acknowledges your presence but I don't have to say anything to you lol... the subway face isn't meant to be mean or angry looking, it is just building a wall so nobody bothers you, but if I'm on the subway with someone else we will be talking and laughing just like anywhere else lol... and do everyone a favor and don't just stand in the middle of the sidewalk looking around, we have two speeds here; "move fast" and "get outta the way" hahaha... but honestly, we might not be super outwardly friendly but most of us are very nice if you approach us, and try to be helpful if you are lost or whatever... I think the majority of people who assume we are rude or unfriendly haven't actually been to the city
