I love New Yorkers so much because they are authentic, genuine, and real. Not always super “nice” - but when you talk to someone, they’re SO nice! I was a tourist, and nobody was rude to me when I actually spoke to them. Just because someone doesn’t smile and say hi to you when you walk by, that doesn’t mean they’re rude!
@mariaeverest23

-The reason why people don't say hi back is because new York has so many people and a lot of weirdos that just go up to you. It's not like in small towns where everyone knows everyone. So it's just very strange for us when a stranger is like... "Oh good morning" and I'm just like "who are you??" Lol. -Also yes it is very annoying when tourists stand in the middle of the street to take pictures and stuff because that's a great way to cause a large blockage of people. And you can tell they're a tourist... Because they stand in the middle of the street. 😂 -In any case I lived here my whole life and never heard someone talk in that accent or say "im walking here!" -Idk how people could live in small suburban towns. I'd go crazy

I’ve been to New York once, I’ve met an extremely kind woman. I was in trouble in the subway because I couldn’t understand anything at all (New York’s subway system is a total mess), and she helped me right away (I didn’t even ask her to). She suggested me to download a subway plan app, which was really handy, and she told me which stop I should get out at. Same thing on the 9/11 memorial: I was taking pictures of the One World Trade Center tower and a man who thought I didn’t know where to go spontaneously asked me wether I needed help. I haven’t met any jerk in NYC😂😂

"They don't want me to say hello to them in the elevator..." accurate, we don't hahahaha. We are masters of the elevator head nod, the gesture that acknowledges your presence but I don't have to say anything to you lol... the subway face isn't meant to be mean or angry looking, it is just building a wall so nobody bothers you, but if I'm on the subway with someone else we will be talking and laughing just like anywhere else lol... and do everyone a favor and don't just stand in the middle of the sidewalk looking around, we have two speeds here; "move fast" and "get outta the way" hahaha... but honestly, we might not be super outwardly friendly but most of us are very nice if you approach us, and try to be helpful if you are lost or whatever... I think the majority of people who assume we are rude or unfriendly haven't actually been to the city

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with New Yorkers. It’s just different they are just more direct a bit which isn’t that bad and don’t talk your ear off like southerners. They are all very nice people. It’s more about efficiency they kind of have to not talk to everyone because if they did they would be talking constantly. They have always been helpful when I needed directions. I stayed at a B&B in the Bronx last time I went and manhattan my first time. Brooklyn and queens is next New Yorkers. Recommendations?

Honestly New Yorkers aren't mean they just don't know who you are and are probably pretty busy. I think they are pretty witty too.That's why I think Washington and Connecticut a bit is probably the most accurate out of all of them. Delaware is right too

Three NYC Truths: A New York minute is 7 seconds. It takes 10 continuous years living here (childhood years after age ten count) to get the title "New Yorker". DeBlasio was the worst.
