If you're not afraid of the dark and know the map roughly, you can throw the flashlight on the ground so that it illuminates a hiding spot. So you can easily hide even if the breaker should go out before a hunt.

1. Ditch your flashlight on familiar maps to grab more items from the truck per trip. 2. Use UV footprints from the salt to ask spirit box questions on top of the ghost. I find it more likely to respond if the ghost isnt talking. There is also a chance to get a special response from a deogen. 3. Always bring in two books and two dots to increase your chances of getting that evidence. 4. If you are new to the game or die a lot, leave the game during the death animation. You won't get any xp, but you won't lose any items either. 5. You can use the tarot cards almost risk free by pulling them at the threshold of the door, and walking out of the house during the animation. You won't get locked in on a death card. However that 1% hanged man card is still possible. 6. Turn up your cursor brightness to 500% if youre having difficulty seeing it on brighter scenes. 7. When investigating the ghost room at low sanity, the ghost can hunt at any time. Use the crucifix to cover your exit path so you're not trapped in the room with the ghost for a hunt. It's also good practice to hang just outside the ghost room and look in. You can use the grace period time to it's full advantage and escape much easier if you don't have to run past the ghost just before a hunt. 8. Playing game modes with 2 evidence or less is the best way to genuinely learn the ghosts and improve at the game. 9. When you think you could be hunted at any moment, don't sprint to keep it availible to get away for when you really need it. 10. On Tanglewood and Sunny Meadows, you can increase your sanity 10% by throwing the potato at the ghost during an event or hunt. 20% for an oni.

The TV remote tricks were really clever! Never thought of them! My contribution would be smudging with the summoning circle - while you can't prevent a cursed hunt, you *can* smudge the ghost before lighting the summoning circle to make sure it doesn't start a hunt while you're lighting it. If you're not sure where the ghost is to get that smudge off, you can also light a smudge on the ground right before you light the last candle - as long as you light the last candle far enough away from the circle, the ghost *does* happen to start a hunt right as you're lighting the last candle, the smudge stick should save you.

@@Rainzz.03 A lot of the cursed possession contain high risk, high reward kind of deals such as the circle which forces to ghost to appear and then hunt right after. The main use cases of it are to forcibly complete some objectives such as smudging the ghost, or getting the ghost photo. Experienced players would probably use the cursed possession to get closer to hunting range because the ghost is more active the lower your sanity is and sometimes hunts can provide evidence or outright reveal what ghost you're dealing with.

Here's one I figured out with my friends: If your dead friends have figured something out you can have them answer yes or no questions using the items found on the map. When one of us dies, we pick up a random object, bring it to the truck and agree something like "if yes throw the item at the pc, if no drop it on the floor" then we can ask something like "do you know the ghost type" or "is the ghost slow during hunts" We're only ever using the in-game voice chat so it's not cheating :P

Something i've noticed that i havent heard anyone talk about: ghosts sing ring around the rosie sometimes, but they only do it during ghost events. So if You hear a ghost singing it, at least theyre not hunting.

I'm not entirely sure of that, but I've tested like 10-15 times during that permahunt glitch, where you could see the idle phase of the ghost, so I believe it is true. Basically the physical ghost event demands the ghost to walk up to you, or just stand somewhere nearby doing creepy noises. The walking ghost event means that it was already right there before the event, and the standing still one only happens with a teleport to somewhere next to the player (sometimes in multiplayer you can actually see the exact moment when the teleport happens).

I always tell new players that they shouldn't be afraid of dying in game. Sooner or later it will happen. Whether it's due to a mistake you make as a player or an unfortunate situation in game. There have been times where I forgot to turn off my electronics early enough and died for it. But there has also been one time, during a hunt on willow, where I smudged the ghost and it followed my pathing after smudging it, which lead to my death. It took the exact same path as I did without fail as though the smudge hadn't worked. It's just something to be aware of, but has only happened to me that one time since the game first launched.

You know this, but newer players might benefit from knowing that ghosts can't see through windows like the prison offices or visitation area and they can't see through doors with windows built into them like the living room doors on Willow, the doors leading into the cell blocks in the prison, and even the wing doors on Sunny Meadows.

Nice Video :D I wanna add two tips maybe someone finds it helpful: 1. If you're trying to get used to looping the ghost instead of hiding, then always leave your flashlight ON or keep talking while using a spot where you can see the ghost but it doesn't see you (Tanglewood kitchen is great). This will make the ghost movement much more predictable while not speeding it up. The ghost can now only double back when it's the furthest away from you giving you more time to react 2. Some niche knowledge in addition to Tip #33: sometimes you can Prove the Poltergeist without moving any items afterwards. The Poltergeist ability will give EMF 2 at the position where the ghost is standing when doing the multithrow, which sometimes will be like 1-2 meters away from where the item were. This is especially useful and observable in locations with no items in the middle of the room but some to the sides. E.g. when the ghost is in the Bleasdale Foyer it can empty the table in the livingroom giving you EMF 2 near the grandfather clock. Just make sure it didn't interact with the clock or breaker behind it. I used this only a few time in the same amount of playtime, but everything is useful sometimes :D

On inclined surfaces, it’s faster to move while crouching. When you walk on stairs in the stand-up position, your speed is shared between horizontal and vertical components. But if you crouch, the horizontal speed remains the same. Now I wonder if ghosts get slowed down on stairs. If yes, it would potentially mean that we could outrun them on inclined surfaces without sprinting.

This tip is for those hunters starting out nightmare mode: unless you have evidence excluding it always have the mimic in the back of your mind and keep an eye out for those orbs, can’t tell you how many times I took a photo of a ghost have it disappear and immediately go “oh it’s a phantom” and leave with the wrong ghost (especially look out for orbs if you have a duo combo of spirit box, fingerprints or freezing temperatures)

Well if you have found the ghost room,you can rule out the ghost orbs easily. If there are no ghost orbs,it cannot be a mimic. Mimic always has this evidence,even in nightmare mode and in custom mode with 0 evidence.

On tip #22 (turning on lights) I think a lot of people get surprised in farmhouses and large maps because this doesn't work as well as the small houses. For farm houses, you need to be standing within like 2-3 meters of a lit wall sconce to stop your sanity from draining. In large maps, it's often directly below a lit overhead light where you need to stand if you want to drop your candle and do a paramic sweep without losing sanity. This also applies to the basement lights in the small maps. However, sanity drain or not, I would always suggest new players turn on the lights so they can see around and become familiar with the map. Getting lost is a good way to die during a hunt.

One tip that has worked for me but isnt the most reliable so only use it if you suspect its a mare. If you think its a mare go to the ghost room and find a lightswitch inside. Repeatedly turn it on an off leaving a small gap between using the lightswitch. After a while the mare will most likely switch the light off immediately after you turn it on so its a nice little way of finding a mare. Also making sure you find which hiding spots are blocked before your sanity starts draining even lower will help you in a hunt

The one thing I teach most new players is that ghosts will attempt to interact with evidence they do no give evidence for. Example ghost may give writing but not dots. If you place the dots on top of the book and the ghost doesn't give dots give it they will attempt to interact with the dots before the book and never give writing. Move the dots out of the area and many times they will immediately write in the book.

@@kutairaisu4603 Ghost will attempt to interact with evidence objects that you place in the room even if they do not give that evidence. Lets say the Ghost is a Demon. You place down Dots, Spirit box and the book in the room. Dots and Spirit box are not evidence it will give as such if the demon interacts with it won’t go off. So it interacts with dots and nothing happens same goes for spirit box. Because they are in the room at all and have an area of effect for interaction they can interfere with the book. Which are an evidence Demons gives and preventing you from figuring out the ghost with evidence. Dots is one of the worst since it has just a large area it covers. That’s why it’s crucial that you rule it out quickly at the beginning of the investigation and then remove it.

They stop sanity drain while ure holding it. They REDUCE passive sanity drain when you are standing within 3 metres of a lit candle. This effect stacks,so standing within 3 meters of 3 lit candles should also completely stop passive sanity drain. (Info from official wiki)

I personally always go for a Camcorder, Glowstick, photocamera starter set. I turn on the breaker, check cursed object and bone to take photo's. Glowstick is easy light, camera doubles for phantom test and the cam is to check for mimic. I drop it all, go back and grab temp, emf and DOTS on the second run I go for book, sprit box and a lighter/crusifix. Start investigating for quick evidence or run one last time for smudge and the rest

for crucifix photos you can take 2 photos per use. 1 is going to be interaction and the other one will be a burned crucifix if you place all your salt in one spot the ghost will step into all the piles at once allowing for 6/9 salt photos (based on the tier of salt)

Regarding tip #28: you said that Banshee+Phantom leave EMF upon arrival. Last I checked, it's Wraith+Phantom that leave an EMF signal upon arrival, but not the Banshee. Though you could use a motion sensor in addition to effectively detect a ghost's arrival, especially if you're as far away from the ghost room as possible. Motion sensor triggered + no EMF -> probably Banshee. (May be inaccurate on small maps, as ghosts can also simply roam there.)

Phasing through the doors has always been my favorite thing to do, especially during hunts. Also, you can take interaction pics of the crucifixes if the ghost just attempted to hunt and you have emf. VR tip: Candles only keep your sanity up in your hands, similar to PC. This may be a futher point for confusion because in VR a number of devices still work on the VR toolbelt such as the flashlights EMF reader and Spirit Box, and in addition the light from the candle is still visible. However your sanity still drops while it is on your toolbelt. PC tip that I use while in VR: You have a lot of regular and strong flashlights, you can place them on desks and use them as spotlights for visibility when the breaker is off or when a hunt just ended, since they don't turn off. Good to place where it can shine long hallways or escape routes(eg Tanglewood foyer dresser or on the dining table pointing to kitchen) It also serves as a good way to indicate hunts from afar apart from the house lights, for example you can have a flashlight on the top or bottom of a flight of stairs to indicate a hunt visible from the other floor.

Dunno if you alrdy got this tip suggestion. There are a few ghosts with forced evidence. If the ghost you are dealing with doesnt have the forced evidence of one of these other ghosts in limited evidence rounds, you can cross off the other ghosts. Maybe do some generic tips too, like mentioning how shades dont hunt for a really long time (35% hst), and if the ghost hunts almost right as the ast hits below 50%, then you can cross of quite a few ghosts (of course dependant on scenarios. For example, yokais, you would have to be talking in it's room). But those obvious ones could be scratched off (demon, thaye, onryo).

I know this guide is about 7 months old, but anyone new coming in, Onryo will use both candle and crucifix me and some buddies had a hunt where the onryo would blow out the candle, and then the crucifix would burn after. Maybe im misunderstanding and he means if the crucifix goes before the candle rule out onryo idk. Just keep that in mind, if candle goes before crucifix it's probably on onryo :)

brilliant video thanks Psycho! One question-re smudges. These work as long as someone is within 6m of the ghost right? Doesn’t have to be the smudger. I.e you can smudge from the truck. Have used this multiple times and it works!

The cursed objects are extremely powerful tools for completing objectives! Knowing how they work exactly is extremely helpful. Getting a ghost photo: Music box, summoning circle, tarot cards Precisely drain your sanity to 25% (or certain ghost hunting ranges): Music box (duration) , mirror (duration) , voodoo doll (# of pins) , summoning circle (#of candles) , ouiji board (question dependent) Force interactions / getting book or dots evidence: Voodoo doll, tarot cards Misc objectives like salt, motion sensor, candle, ghost event: Summoning circle, (music box, tarot cards too but more risky)

7:22 Don't Onryos extinguish candles within 4 metres and not 5 though? You could only be sure of this if you're using a tier 1 or 2 crucifix I think. Using a tier 3 crucifix, this test only has a 64% chance of working (87% if the test works twice)

In Team, i take 3 salt bottle and put one salt in every room. Then the ghost will walk on one of all salt that you put in every room and you find the ghost room ( max 9 salt so 9 room ).

Ghosts cannot see electronics and flashlights when they are on and on the ground. This is useful for testing for mylings and rijus.

the tip about light from level lightsources stopping the sanitydrain. is it only tanglewood and the other samey looking buildings? in every other map i always get sanity drained right under the lightbulb. tested this with a friend. we heared so much that light stop sanity drain, we just can not believe it in some maps from our own experiences. we have trustissues with all lightsources except the tanglewood alikes

The trick I never knew after over 650 hours and level 1900 (at least 1500 of which was before custom difficulty) was the TV remote acting like a light switch, testing for mare and testing for hunts.. that will completely change how I play the game to be honest

Yeah they did at some point briefly then they didnt anymore because of a bug but they never fixed it since they would have to revamp the entire lighting system

This game looks fun but there's SO much to learn and retain for a new player that it feels kind of hard to pick up. I wish it explained some of this better in the game. Great vid though!
