I think I got one. In the Japanese version (Not the shindou version) when you collect a coin when you have 999 coins, instead of setting the coins to 999, the lives is set to 999 but since the lives is a byte, it converts to -25 and it will keep setting the lives to -25 until the coin amount is reset (by entering a course). That means if you talk to yoshi when you have more than 999 coins via the moneybag duplicating glitch or collecting the 4 coins in the castle 250 times via re-entering it, you softlock. That's because the lives go up until 100 but since you have more than 999 coins, the lives keep setting itself to -25 and thus, you'll never reach 100 lives. Ever. Until you reset.

i heard that if you get to the very top of the castle, you get loaded into a BRoD by dropping into a certain part.... it was mentioned that it's easily done with the cannon outside the castle when you get 120 stars... if that's inescapable, make that soft lock number 58. it's called the "go through the roof glitch"

Where getting more than 999 coins gives Mario 999 lives, displayed as "M25", and continually refreshes this ludicrous lives amount every frame, so talking to Yoshi (who gives Mario 100 lives, but with 1000+ coins and M25 lives causes a softlock due to the two conflicting commands) causes an issue?

At least the majority of these are incredibly rare occurrences when casually playing. Most seem to require the player to carefully trigger them. I've personally never encountered a single softlock in SM64, so Nintendo must have done pretty good job overall.

Video description: "These are also knows as a glitch / freeze" I don't think softlocks are known as "freezes," considering nothing is frozen. Also, "glitch" is a much broader term, and could be used to describe things as simple as a wall kick which sends you in the same direction as your initial jump, or the "zombie glitch" you mentioned in the video.
